Wow... developers... that listen to their fan base...even better, that foresee what we want.

I hope after that we will not fly through the planets, at least during warp between major navigation points (station/planets). This is really frustrating.

Very nice. i recreated an old screen shot i had lying around. Big difference
before
after
And they're not even finished yet Can't wait to see the finished product, would be even better with new backgrounds as well.

Warping thru planets is ok by gameplay and logic behind it. But can we actually get shield damage when getting to close to the planet? would be more realistic to not fly into the texture.

I hope they implement something that makes it look like you've just flown around the planet while warping instead of crashing through it -------------------------- Sigless |

Ugh.. I spend an entire evening trying to some nice fraps for a video about the new planet graphics... to make it really cool I thought of a timelaps.
Sadly, my attempts so far where futile thanks to the camera bobbing around like mad.

@CCP
I hope you guys learned your lesson from Trinity. Don't downsample too much, and always have one graphics tier higher than you would want normally. GPUs with 1-2gb vram are the norm with this generation, and unless you get into a huge fleet fight, you aren't going to fill it. People who hang out in empire are probably better off having prettier scenes than the entire system's assets cached.
I'm saying this now because those planets honestly look blurry and weak.

I hope stars get redone too. They aren't visited very often, but they should honestly be hundreds of times larger than a planet. It would look spectacular if a stars grid was just covered in blinding light from the star, which fills an entire facet of the screen.
New planets look amazing, and they aren't done yet. Really looking forward to the starbase move.

While the new planets certainly look totally awesome, i'd like to point out that the loading time on jump-in has increased dramatically. Every time i jump into a system that has these new planets, the client just completely freezes for about 10-15 seconds (GeForce 9600M GT, 4GB RAM, 100MB/s HD data transfer rate - not quite top of the line, but not exactly obsolete hardware IMO). If there's no way to make these textures load dynamically without freezing the client, i'd like to request an option to disable them without disabling hi-res textures on everything else.

There's the only thing w/ the new planets!
The atmosphere/clouds are rotating, but you're stuck with the same static chunk of land.

Stuff in geosynchronous orbit is 36k miles out from earth, so not everything has to be in a low orbit. Lagrange point stations between planets & moons would work too. Loving the idea of closer warpins.

Yeah, but it's a start.
Until very recent the only animations on planets was some lighting here and there.
And I finished my video.
I hope eventually the planets will rotate around there own axis and even around the sun.

It will be awesome change if they implement it. At the moment planets looks like some kind of unrelated big rubber globes behind the stations.

Edited by: Ashley Thomas on 22/09/2009 17:45:09 One small thing I would personally like to see added, don't let ships get within 250km of a planets surface, just have the ships computer bounce them away or something. At the very least, make the planets solid so you can't fly into them.

I would like less washed out textures for the planets and make the distance to stations variable. One station is close to a planet, one station is far away from it

Please consider a curved warp around Planets , or some preset curved warps in each EVE system that allow ships to share a warp tunnel/session without being in a fleet, or warping at the same time.
Label the Planet an open Waypoint and all warp sessions that need to go through the PlntWaypoint, instead, are sent to the presetRoute.
Pilot enters warp, sees slight curvature of the warp, skims atmosphere of planet(possible new effect?) glides out at destination.
None of this has to be done with undock, warp through station though.
Imagine warping around a planet and flying past two+ other strangers in warp. I'd be like actual space traffic, with no jams.(SPACE JAMS!) I've had 2 such shared warp encounters in EVE, so I know the session can be overridden, somehow. I just don't like smashing through Planet graphics. Breaks immersion. *I do understand Planck Bubble concept. Sorta.*
See e.g Cowboy Bebop, the Hypergate transit dynamics.
Those preset warps might reduce server load from not having to creat different flights. Maybe.
Also, while you are dealing with infrastructure, anyway to actually allow pilots to add Planets, Belts, Stations to Autopilot routes? Would reduce system lag in Trade Hubs if those AP ships were to dock at the end of their route instead of being loaded to many other player's Overview...
And make them warp in at 70km from station radius so suicide gankers get a chance.
Any word on HD , darker/3D region specific space backgrounds? 7 |

Originally by: Sajeera We all know about the new planet models on Singularity, but i want to propose something more in this direction which will bring even more immersion in the game.
All stations in New Eden are 5-10 thousands kms from the planets and because of that they often look not like orbital bodies but like standalone objects that just hang in space.
Using photoshop and some screenshots that i took on SiSi, i made some pics to show what will be if the stations are at 500-1000km from the planet which will look not only way better, but will be more authentic too (the International Space Station is in orbit at 350km above the Earth's surface).
This is my first ever photoshop stunt in my life so please be nice.
Amarr Caldari Galente 1 Galente 2
All the pics are actual screenshots from SiSi, i've just added the stations.
Very very nice idea and love the photoshopping you did.

I had the exactly same idea for a bending warp tunnel and think that it will look awesome.
Flying through planets and stations really ruins the immersion especially for a new to the game guys.
Still remember my "WTF" moment when i saw this for the first time. Decelerating for a dock from hypespace speed through a curved warp tunnel will look awesome imo.
Would be cool if they bring back the old "tearing" warp sound, it was giving really unique feeling for speed and was far superior to the "buzzing" we have now.
