Take a dominix its 886 meters long, not sure on other dimensions but as a guess based on the length must be at least 300 meters high and 100 meters thick. This totals 26,580,000 m3.
However the cargo capacity is 640m3 that is 9m x 9m x 8m what the hell is taking up all the other space??
a small liquor cabinet? well, small by ccp's standards

You're assuming the dominix is a cube.
Does it look like a perfect cube to you? It gets smaller the further you go back for a start off, so you shave off a few 0's off that estimate.

for starters the dimensions were a rough estimate, half them if you want, also there is no crew on our ships just our selfs in a tiny pod, so no life support etc etc

Yes, about that.

Originally by: XenoPagan this chronicle at last gives more ammo against "pod ships have now crews" and "crew always dies because we don't see escapepods on our overview" crowd
I'm honestly amazed the "crew/no crew" debate still runs, given that I, Ginger and plenty of others have repeatedly nailed it into canon. As for whether the crews die, it wouldn't make any sense. The issue, as far as the storyline people are concerned, isn't whether the crew die, but rather why and how the capsuleers aren't allowed to see their escape pods.

Edited by: Doddy on 20/09/2009 11:52:48 Far more pertinent a question would be how an outpost in 0.0 can simultaniously contain 500 or 600 capitals from 0.0 coalition fleets. Don't even get me started on just how big Jita 4-4 "Freighter central" should look.

Originally by: Paz Lenchantin im in a thanatos and i have a hyperion in my ship maintanence bay, and there is no way a hyperion looks like it could get into my ship maintanence bay
that is all
thanks
Who says that the ship maintenance bay is inside the ship? That big flat area between the 2 main hull sections looks like a nice place to dock a ship. There is a nice opening aft for maintenance crew and craft to get too and from the docked ships. And at the fore, and just below this deck, there is a nice opening suitable for launching and landing drones of various sizes. I know we don't see the ships docked there but, well, for various reasons there are limits to what we see visually in game, although it would be nice to see a Hyperion or 2 docked to a Thanatos in that manner. But can you imagine the performance issues when trying to display 100 frigates docked in that manner.
Dunno how CCP imagined it but that's how I see it working.
The scales are fine. We just lack the usual visual cues, like horizon and other known objects, to give us a good indication of size.

Yeah.
As long as it can get its head in it can get the rest of itself in. If the mouse's head is as small as a ballpoint it stands to reason... but the last mouse that I snatched in the kitchen, while tiny, wasn't that tiny. My wolf didn't even notice the barely bite size morsel except for the ever-so-brief squeak (that really threw him off... food isn't supposed to squeak as far as he's concerned).

Uhh no. Ship maintenance ""BAY"" (Note it's an INTERNAL component.) Also I'd love to see how one stores a packaged ship on the exterior of a ship. (Packed suitcase on top of car style?)

Nowhere does it say that the maintenance bay is inside the ship. And a bay can be internal or external (look up the definition of a bay). A floating dry dock is basically a specialised docking "BAY".
As for strapping the ships to the roof like a suitcase on a car rack, yes, that is exactly how I was seeing it. Space shuttle on transport.
And like I said, it's how I see the whole thing working. Would be interesting to hear what CCP have to say about it.

I REALLY HATE it when people claim this, because CCP Abraxas disagrees with you. Crews on capsuleer ships have been confirmed fact since March.

I agree that its been pretty obvious that ships have crews for much longer, but March of this year is the earliest I could actually find a post from CCP specifically saying that.

Carriers being able to carry BS is a very recent thing. Blame power creep, not the CCP artists.
Actually, nevermind. You can blame the CCP artists for making portholes/windows on every ship and station a different size. They're the only reference of scale we have and they totally screwed it up.

Another example, when you click the eye (preview) when browsing your ship, the length indicates that the hyperion 500 meters and the orca is 1100 meters.
Fly both ships next to each other and the hyperion is about the same size of the orca.
Hope they fix it all someday.

unless you smash him in, my maths think not
One Mouse, a blender and a small funnel. Of course the problem you have now is the volume of "liquid" will be too much for the barrel of the pen but being able to write with mouse "liquid" may be of some use for certain shadowy organisations who meet using secret handshakes in the dead of night.
Volume isn't a problem. Just build the pen using the same technology used in cargo containers T.A.R.D.I.S's.
Who says the inside can't be bigger then the outside?

It's a game. Everything can't be 'like real life'. or it wouldn't be fun.
However, if the new hardware can take it, by all means please upscale the big ships!
OR maybe downsize everything else a tad.
But yeah, it's kinda sills that carriers are only maybe, 2x bigger(if even that much) in visual than battleships.
