When you fit your fleet to run away.
I don't care if a team has only 40 minutes to prepare, it was like the 27th fight. There was definitely time to have a basic idea of what everyone else was dealing with.
T3 anyone?
At least some of your enemy drove off the bubble.

Yay! It's our favourite troll. You've been a bit quiet recently, so good to see you've not given up your crusade against us just yet.
Thanks for your sage advice. I'll file it where I normally do...

If you think 40 mins is long enough to go buy and fit ships, get implants sorted, fleet up and deal with the GM messages then you've obviously not been involved with the last minute prep before a tourney match.
Fair play to Noir. for having the bottle to show up with very little notice with a coordinated setup. Ok it didn't fare too well, but against some of the teams we saw this weekend it could very well have worked better.
Next week will be interesting, good luck Noir.

Apart from the short preparation time (hats off for even taking a slot so late) it doesn't help that you're fighting HUN Reloaded, who are probably pilot for pilot one of the best teams in the tourney.

And NOIR, whilst not being in a good position to go through to the next round, do still have another game to show off their skills and get their pilots on the official CCP Youtube channel, plus make some more of a name for themselves by pulling off a decent fight. I heard publicity is always good for merc corps :)

Clueless OP...
Given the circumstances and the opponent, I see no shame at all in the Noir. performance. I give them props for offering to take a slot on short notice of any kind and actually giving it a reasonable go.

Less than 2 hours notice... check. On a 3-day holiday weekend for the AT primetime.... check. Going up against one of the best AT teams... check. Going with whoever's online when the note comes in.... check. Still fitted and showed up, on time, ready to fight... check.
After all that, GMs, CCP and even the *opponent* believe we did as well as we could given the circumstances. I challenge anyone in this game to do better.
Sadly I wasn't online when this went down, but I find it instructive that the only detractors of Noir.'s performance in this round are those who we've been contracted against (or their alts) in the past. I received a few lovely in-game evemails on the same topic from former targets.

I dont know any NOIR pilots nor have I had the pleasure to fight them, but Ive been in a few alliances and I know that very few if any could have put together a team that fast, let alone perform that admirable against the HUN.
Double "Kudos" to you guys and I'm pulling for you guys to win. Goodluck.

Trolling a tournament team with only an hour or two to prepare is pretty low, and worse when you have no idea what it takes to organize one.
Noir, impressive showing considering how difficult it is to get things prepared at incredibly short notice. I don't think we'd have been able to do as well in the same circumstances, so good luck with the next fight guys!

Come on now lads lets be totally honest here. It was far from an impressive showing.
Also how could you not do as well as Noir. did under the same circumstances?? They killed nothing and lost everything sharpish.
But fair play to Noir. for turning up within such short notice. The praise has to end there. The performance in the arena was pants.

I never said they fought well - my comments were made in relation to the setup they fielded as getting a team together in an hour with a particular role in mind, decent fittings, an FC and a game plan is a very hard task.
Having said that they should have primaried the logistics, but they tried their best with a setup that was clearly going to struggle against HUN's and they deserve plenty of credit for stepping in at the last minute to make sure there weren't any "no-show" matches.

Edited by: Taram Caldar on 09/09/2009 02:14:06 I give props only where it's due. Noir. showed a lot of guts to even accept the slot. I heard they had something like 1hr notice that they were being offered a slot. This after being told awhile back that they weren't even an alternate.
As for their showing during the fight yah, should have primaried the scimitar first just like Hun did to them. That said.... getting in at the absolute last possible second, managing to get a gang together that actually was decent and having an FC available to lead it was an accomplishment in and of itself.
So props to Noir. for showing up and making a decent effort. Hopefully next fight they'll do better with a bit more prep time to get things together properly.
Edit: Full disclosure, I am a former Noir. officer.... Doesn't change the accomplishment Noir. made of actually getting a tourney gang together and in place in time for the fight with such short notice. And I do agree the target calling could have been better.
However: to the person who said they didn't get any kills... you might want to go re-watch the fight.

Also first time AT for all of our pilots check heh.
I only have good things to say about HUN's AT team. Former champs and still competative. I was and continue to be thankful just for the chance to compete, considering we werent even on the reserve reserve list. In my mind though i was like:
"YES! WE'RE IN! Who we fighting?" "Last match vs HUN Reloaded" "O... Right then."
Crovan's comment about our gang composition wasn't far from the truth either; we basically had to pick from ships we already had on hand in our contract area. No ISK stashed away for this, no time to discuss ships and tactics thoroughly, definitely no time for a run through on the test server or anywhere else, and no real sense of just how tiny that arena was heh.
And that's not to take anything away from HUN's set up and execution, both of which were extremely solid.
On the plus side, it was the best fight we got all week! So again gf to HUN, gl to our next opponents Rote Kapelle, and ty Brea for giving us something else to laugh about. We know making it to the next round is quite a long shot but we'll still bring the best fight we can manage.
PS Brea, and rest of the thread, give me about 5-10 minutes and i have a present for you hehehe ---

Noir got the points so Noir got the kills. And at least Noir didn't lose any ships to boundry violations?
