Okay, I'm not exactly new here but I've never really figured this out. how do warp core scramblers work and how do warp core stabalizers help against them?
I'm asking this because I just lost my Moa to a 'mercenary wingman' in a lvl 3 mission. the agent warned that the wingman would use warp scramblers so I put 2 stabalizers on my ship, and they didn't do anything.
now, looking at the device info for each it seems a simple math deduction of 1 stabalizer to every scrambler will keep you going (I'm guessing ships don't have any warp core stability points as it isn't listed in atributes).
how many stabalizers is generally enough, for missions? I know pvp is a different story.

I think 1 is enough, but not sure. Were you specifically prevented from warping out, or did you just die to damage? It takes a while to align and you don't enter warp till you do.

OK ... here goes
Warp Core Stabilisers (WCS) offer 1 point of engine stability and anti-jamming ability each. If you look at the market you will see two types of scrambler, a 1 point and a 2 point scrambler. So in order to be able to jump you will need to ensure you have more WCS points than they do scrambling points. This is all very relevant in PvP .... however ....
Now here is the pain in the arse:
Rats appear to scramble with infinite strength. If they scramble you, you have no option to fight or MWD away from them, you will not be able to warp and you cannot defend against there scrambling points. Darwin 4tw

I've no idea what kind of rats you're fighting, but I've never had a problem warping away from warp scrambling npc ships. When I kill a nice spawn in 0.0, I always leave 1 of the rats alive so that the whole spawn will come back later. If the spawn has (say) 2 BS and 3 interceptors, I will fit one warp stab. After I kill the 2 BS and 2 of the interceptors, the last one is trying to warp scramble me. But I never have any problems in warping away due to my warp stab.
Maybe mission rats are different?

hmmm, well I had 2 warp stabs equiped and tried multiple times to warp out; failing. also had the graphical warp scramble bubble around my ship.
if it's as easy as one stabalizer for every point of scramble then it can be assumed that this mission rat had 3+ scramblers equiped, or 2+ of the 2 point scramblers mentioned. so I guess next time I'll just cripple my ship and fill every low slot on my ship with stabalizers and hope that's enough.

Or you could use your lows for something more useful such as a tank or damage mods, and kill it first...

I generaly suggest using 0. WC's you either want in bulk (4+) or not at all.
If something is only going to scramble you for 1 point, you simply kill it. Big blockades will usualy have 3+ of the 2 point scrambers on a fast frigate, so even 3 WC's is a waste of time there.
Also remeber that they have fairly short range, if your not close enough to be scrambled you dont have to worry about it.
