Hey.
I'm no math crack and I don't know all the market mechanics, so tell me if I'm getting this right:
1) CCP bans isk sellers, macro isk farmers etc. 2) ISK prices on the internetz go up, making Plex selling the best way of buying ISK 3) The market is flooded with Plexs, the prices drop rapidly (340-300 within a month @Hek for example) 4) Although ISK seller prices went up, people go back to buying ISK illegaly if Plex selling doesn't pay off 5) ISK seller prices normalize within a short period of time with new macro accounts etc. 6) Rinse and repeat
CCP does have the possibility to control the Plex market by controlling the supply. But I doubt CCP will ever tell us "sry, no more GTC conversions until prices stabilize. Why? It doesn't matter to them if players get less ISK ingame as long as they still buy GTCs. You could ofc say, it's the players fault this madness started in the first place. But tbh people will just buy the cheapest ISK even if it means doing it illegaly, RL money is logically more important to them.
So...did I get this totally wrong or is this basically how it works?

This is indeed how it goes.
It means a huge amount of profit for CCP since the banned ones will buy a new account, people buy GTCs which means even more money and all in all everyone is happy!

Yesterday I was lol to find that the prices the isk spammers were spamming ($70 irc for 1bn) was more exspensive than buying from CCP.
I then followed the link to the live chat, asked how many sales they have got in the last week to which they replied very little. I then continued to troll them.
So actual they've already won (thus the spam)

Edited by: James Vayne on 06/08/2009 16:47:37 The only realistic thing for CCP to do is create a way for noobs to make isk much easier early in game and cut it off at a later date. Since it seems to be the noob marked that isk sellers go for. Possibly by offering greater ISK rewards for level 1 missions. (say a rise from 16000 isk (as a general figure) to 30,000 isk).

…and for the Titan-owner market. And the pimped-CNR-market…

Indeed. But then if you're willing to pay $10,000 of real money for an amount of isk to buy something that doesn't really exist. One deserves to be scammed.

I don't think any MMO actually wants ISK/Gold farmers stopped. They pay $15 a month just like the rest of us, that's money in the game companies pocket. Do they care if you get hacked? yes IMO. Then they'll do whatever they can. What I think upsets MMO's about money farmers is they don't get the money from purchased ISK/Gold. I think MMO's should sell thier in game currency cheaper than the farmers. The price for a 60 day gtc is a little steep for ISK, great deal if you actually use the GTC :) !

The ratio of $/ISk is adjusted by the free player market, CCP can' do much, and actually it would be bad if they did, the model works just fine.
And actually if people does no buy ISK illegally they will spend money of GTC, so the rationale of "isk seller = more accounts" is not totally right with currentCCP's model of selling GTC for isk, as they can still eprceive money because there is a legal market for exchange.
The way to win battle against RMT cartels is to make it too expensive for them to continue on the play, first steep taken years ago was legalizing the market, now it needs more marketing specially for new players hich don't know is posssible to buy ISK legally via GTC, and disencourage buyers by being harder on their end, not only on the seller.
This eventually would drive most of sellers away. As someone suggested, actually maybe they are winning the battle against them.
