Second time it has happened in 30 minutes, this has been going on for the past week and it's really starting to **** me off. I've swapped ethernet cables and made sure everything settings wise was ok. Nothing has changed and the 3 other computers that use wireless have no problem whatsoever.
DSL, Bellsouth, any suggestions? ________________________________________________

I had the same issue with my DSL after the first year of owning it. Started off as occasional and ended up with me screaming at tech support because they were telling me they couldn't see anything wrong and I was telling them that the internet light was freaking off. Oh how I love my cable now.
Anyways the steps I took were: Keep the DSL box nearby. When when you lose connection check and see if its them or you. In other words is the internet light flashing like it should be?
If its your pc check your network connections and drivers.
If its them try powercycling the box.
If it happens again try a different phone jack. Normally here I would mention swapping cables as well but it sounds like you did that.
If it still happens call tech support and have them do a check of your line.
Got ya beat though. My ipod locked up last night for the first time ever and it took my pc with it. I was trying to log into WAR and it wouldn't do anything so I decided to reboot but it wouldn't shut down. So I powered off manually and then it wouldn't power back on and it was telling me my hard drives were disabled and I'm like oh ****. Spent 40 minutes disassembling my pc and checking connections and trying to figure why it wouldn't work and what difference I had compared to 4 hours ago and then I decided to disconnect the ipod and wham, works fine again. Then I realized the ipod was locked up and was like well crap, how do I fix this stupid thing now? Turns out some guy on the net learned that if you place lock on, then off and hold menu and middle button it reboots it but you may lose info in the process.

Ever tried replacing a fan for a computer case they stopped making parts for 3 years ago? Ya, I have to hit F1 everytime I boot up now. "Rearfan failure" weeee
Not to mention at one point the internet card fried and for some reason came back online.
Other than that, after I mentioned this, my computer froze TWICE. And I am sitting here cussing and screaming at my computer to work.
I have not had a very good day so far today. ________________________________________________

Been there, done that. Luckily my PC had an option in the BIOS to disable monitoring of that fan.
I also had a graphics card melt while trying to run the original Splinter Cell game (back when it was a new game). That was fun.

Had this problem when i switched over to ADSL2 turned out to be the telephone sockets i had inside my house conflicting with each other. how is your connection wired? do you have your router plugged into the master socket? or an extension socket? also check your adsl filters these sometimes go pop as well.

Edited by: Aethrwolf on 03/08/2009 18:13:43 back before my desktop died, I had a similar problem. My desktop and my laptop were both randomly losing internet connection. Desktop was wired, lappy was wireless. Turns out the router I have was assigning wireless connections not to the first open router port but started at the first port and worked its way down, and my comps were kicking each other off due to an IP conflict from both of them trying to use the same router port. moved the ethernet cable from the first port to the last port and didnt have another problem with it.
Do not know if that's what your problem is, but you sound like you could use any suggestions at the moment.
edit: forgot about the time my wifes dog urinated on one of the phone jacks... THAT was fun. Absolutely everything is subjective. |

Bellsouth is owned by AT&T. That's your problem.
Do you use torrents?

Try assigning your computer to a different network IP in your router settings. Set it to reserve so that computer only has that IP. No chance for an IP issue. It could also mean your wireless card in your computer is going bad. ----

So I swapped to a wireless, and updated my drivers. And the router has been on for 12 hours, and my internet still just randomly went out, with no warning what so ever.
So I'm just gonna go and get some sleep and check this thread later.
Oh and Munchees, I never have a problem with your posts but god damn people need to seriously shut the **** up about the "Well [insert something the poster doesn't like], that's your problem." If there was a better ISP I would switch to it. ________________________________________________

Tell me what ISP's are in your area and I'll give you a suggestion of who to switch to. However, if Bellsouth is the only ISP in your area then you are SOL. I'm trying to derail the thread. --------------------------------------------------

By any chance are you disconnecting when another computer restarts/re-connects to the router? Its a shot in the dark but its a dominant problem for me and nobody can figure out why the **** it happens. Waiting on a new router coming ATM and if that has the same issue we'll be cursing black and blue. _____________________________________ Haruhiist since December 2008

Sod all to do with the actual connection then...just to rule out a DSL issue even more check the routers uptime. ========= "I am not saying there should be capital punishment for stupidity, but why can`t we just take the safety labels off everything and let the problem fix its self |
