Check your modules, there's a module that is activated with Alt-F4 (I'm 100% serious). It'll disable pvp for you.

If you don't like pvp your playing the wrong game. Even if you stay in highsec 100% of the time you not safe. This is the very core of EVE; to change it would be akin to changing wow into FFA PVP in every zone.

EVE is PVP. There is at no time 100% safety unless you are docked--and even then you are subject to market pvp and scams.

I think you picked up the wrong game. In the bargain bin I think you can find; Freelance, X2, X3, Elite and soem other Single player games where you can save you game and not get beat on to badly by PvP and stick with the PvE element.
Overall - EVE is PvP though. So just be careful, if you did not want the PvP element, why did YOU go into low sec? Were you forced ? I doubt it, therefore you made your own actions and as a result, lost a ship from it.

u are right i did make the disision to go in low sec but the orginal escalation site was in hi - sec i dont see why a high sec escalation takes u in to low sec.

Why? Well Most High-sec Escalation end up in low Sec. Most low-sec escalation en up in nul sec. And I've heard of Nul sec escalation take you 40 jumps out in a different region in heart of enemy territory.
What about that, when you are bout end low-sec get a few friends and form a gang. Or just don't go and stick with DED. Or Missions. You have plenty of option, stop complaining.

The reason it takes you to low-sec because the potential reward is too great for the risk level of hi-sec.
EVE does have a quirky risk/reward system but generally there is no easy way to make a lot of cash without a level of risk or significant time investment.
Your problem isn't that you don't like PvP, the problem was you entered low-sec alone.
Probably the biggest problem with EVE is that missions are not designed to be done in PvP capable ships so when you do go into low-sec you are at a significant disadvantage.
I used to take a NH and a Domi to do some L5s in low-sec, the Domi was fitted with web, scramb and heavy neuts and carried ecm drones. Sometimes you get to pop a pirate or two, other times it allows you buy enough time to evac to safe spots.
It is just very hard to survive in popular areas of low-sec unless you are prepared, even then, sometimes you just get bent over and you have to take it like a man and learn from the experience.

Dude, I'm not fond of pvp either, but I dont cry if I take a risk and get caught. There are steps you could have taken in your situation, first off you could have ignored the last escalation. You could have invited friends or corpmates to go with. Could have scouted the system and tried to bribe the locals to let you do it.. hell you could have tried to invite them to help you if you werent in it just for the loot. I'll bet you werent even using your scanner to try and detect someone probing for you. Basic precautions could have prevented this whole annoying thread. Absolutely everything is subjective. |

You can go on angony unleashed courses which will teach you how to PvP, I don't know how to PvP but I will give it a dam good go, Check out my post on warfare and tactics headed Hunting pirates it's funny but people have put some good ideas on it and some crazy ones to boot, at the end of the day this is a game and it will hurt now and again but you can also get so much from this amazing place at the same time, eve mail me in game and we can look at ways that the game could be improved for you, the dinamics are there maybe you just need to find them or be shown.

Anyone ever read Watership Down?
^^^^ That guy ^^^^ Gives the one page sentence at the beginning a run for it's money.
Anyways.
I just ran a high sec anomoly. It escalated to low sec. I ran the low sec escalation. Afterwards, there was a Sansha's Hub in system that I ran. Guess what? It escalated too, this time to 0.0.
Meanwhile, I got probed out but didn't lose a thing. Why? Because it takes a little experience to NOT die in low sec. First off, I brought a cloak. Second, I kept my directional scanner open, and refreshed it regularly. Third, I watched local. You know what? Those simple steps saved my HAC and the centii a-type loot I was carrying. When I saw local jump a few people really quick, I warped out and cloaked. Just as the warp engaged, I saw a phobos, drake, domi, etc. all warp in. By the skin of my teeth I got out.
Be smart, not stupid.

Thats just how escalations work. I live in 0.0 and the other day had a 3rd escalation that was trying to send me 32 jumps from where I was based. I just chose not to do it (although I have done some of them in the past).
Escalations usually lead to valuable loot, so its a case of risk vs reward. Why should you be able to sit in hi-sec collecting faction loot with virtually no risk at all ?

Edited by: DonDrakos on 31/07/2009 13:22:26 Edited by: DonDrakos on 31/07/2009 13:19:55 i completely understand you m8 ! those in here so quick to be smug and "high horsey" are players with more than 2 years under their belts. Since not one of them gave you any tips how to avoid this in the future here it is:
1. just decline the mission that send u in low sec. 2. if u insist in taking it scout ahead to see if theres a gate camping in that system. 3. warp to mission site and haull ass at 40k away from that spot. 4. Keep ur system scanner open, set to 360 degreee and 4 AU distance. Refresh it regularly. If u see a probe on scanner JUMP. Jump to a planet or to a bookmark or something. Jump to the gate that takes u back in high sec at 100k away from it. Scan that gate for campers. Approach it only if its safe. Also, theres nothing 100% safe in EVE. 5. if u missed the scanner and see some1 arriving at ur mission site, dont wait to see whats their intentions, JUMP. A good strategy is to always stay aligned to a station, planet etc. This way u decrease the time need it to jump away. 6. Dont fly a ship that u cant afford to loose.
Dont mind the smuggers, they used to get their ass kicked and wine like little girls when they started playing EVE like every1 else.
Cheers and stay safe.

You got lucky! If the escalation chain had ended in HiSec you would have gone in, killed the NPCs and collected a decent reward and went about your business. This time tomorrow the entire chain would have been forgotten by you.
Instead you got an adventure that may have turned out badly economically, but you got some excitement and memories out of it.

I think its pretty crazy that I actually have to undock to do exploration. I hope when WiS comes there will be instanced dungeons inside the stations with good loot.

I've done about 8 lowsec escalations thusfar, and after dealing with the tension of the first couple of them, you'll get a lot better. I've found that most of the time the sites actually escalate 2-3 jumps into lowsec, so most of the time I find myself alone, or with only a handful in local.
Preparation is definitely the key. Fit a cloak, staying aligned, warping to the nearest celestial when you first get in a system.
I've had a lot of fun with these, with the exception of the 'kidnappers' escalation because it just takes too bloody long to bring down the station. I've only had 2 or three produce any faction loot also, but it's the luck of the draw.

Methos, I too have had my escalations take me to low sec. I am all for PVP however, some people play this game and like to stay in empire, and it is unfortunate that the devs cant keep a escalation site which start in High sec, end in High sec.
The fact that this game is built around pvp does not change the fact there are people who would like to start and finish in high sec.
If the mission starts in high sce it should end in high sec |
