The resolutions on our monitors are only getting bigger and as a result the fixed size font is only getting smaller. It's getting harder and harder to read the tiny, unreadable font you have decided to choose to use for eve online.

I never figured out why people complain about the font in Eve.
Hit escape, click the General Setting tab. In the left pane about half way down there's a dropdown menu marked "Context Menu Fontsize", set it to 12.
Below it there's a dropdown called "FONT WIDTH", set it to expanded.
I play at 2560x1600... and I can read it fine with the client's default settings, but this helps a lot for those with eyesight problems.
If you can't read the text with the settings above then you need serious help from an optician.

I was surprised that there were not more options here. Yes, you can change the font that is used for Right Click context menus. But there are plenty of pieces of the UI that don't fall within that bucket (ie, Overview.. just to give a tiny lil' insignificant example...)
There's no question that the UI should give more flexibility here. I imagine there are people that simply would not be able to play this game, due to legibility issues.

trolls are fun to read, but aside of that
me eyes experience strain, blur and discomfort after 90 minutes of staring into complex user interface. The space ships look great, it's the massive amount of info which you need to read off the market, industry and ship details sections.
at 1920x1200 resolution, 12 font size is something too small to see.
All users demand the new UI in which fonts are scalable and can extend up to 36 if needed

For a game that bombards the player with such an amount of info as EVE does it is a bit silly not to have a more legible font.
There has been the argument that CCP would need to "fix" the entire UI (I wouldn't mind) just to change the font and I have no idea to what extent that is/not true...
*but*
...that is unrelated to the main font being legible or not.
Exercise 1) Make a text document and try out some of the fonts installed on your computer at different sizes. You'll soon notice that some fonts are very legible at small sizes while some are (much) less so.
Exercise 2) Find a typeface you (and/or your eyes) dislike, set a long-ish text document with it then print it out. Now do the same with a typeface designed for reading longer texts. I don't like Times New Roman but for this exercise it will do - also, it's pre-installed on most/all modern PCs. Read both of them. See/feel any difference?
Nowadays in typography you can even find "optical sizes", which means that a typeface has been optimized to be readable at different sizes. For example at 9 pt and below the font might be a tad thicker than anything above that size and so on. You actually end up having different fonts for different sizes to make the text as legible as possible with the chosen typeface. There is a reason some designers go to these lengths when designing their typefaces.
But I digress.
EVE needs a better, more legible font.
We don't need opticals, kerning and other elaborate type tech going on under the hood, just a more legible font.
You can argue against it as much as you want but you will only end up being wrong.

Probably sometime around when they make a decent GUI, so never.
Also accessibility tools (specifically the magnifying glass) are your friends.

This is exactly what NEEDS to happen. Eve is awesome, but the terrible UI, clunky windows, hard to read font etc etc, ruins alot.

Ironically, the font used in the Japanese chat is quite legible.
Though it seems to be some standard "kaku" style rather than a stylized counterpart of the roman font we're "experiencing". On the other hand it is a bit interesting that a language with three (four if you count roman letters) different scripts with quite different characteristics is more legible than languages that make use of roman letter as a base for writing.
