Hi fellow pilots
Im nearing my end of conquering pve within gallente space with my main char, my next logical progression is working on my exploraton skills, i do some basic probing of combat sites and wormholes but would like to unlock the riches that come with hacking as i hear this can be very profitable and can help with some of the complex ops my corp runs. Can anyone help with...
- what skills and ships are needed?
- how is the best way to go about finding hacking sites?
- i hear the helios is good to use but are there any hacking bonus ships i may have overlooked?
- What are the best probes to use?
thanks in advance for all helpful posts

Scan them out like any other Signature :-)

There is no dedicated hacking ship, but there are hacking rigs to fit. If you are roaming around solo, I recommend you grab a normal combat ship and hack with that one, if you have some wingman to protect you, just slap that codebreaker on your helios.

As all those different probetypes have been removed with apocrypha, you really only need "Sister's Core Scanner Probe I" to find any site out there.
For more info, help, tips & tricks, join the ingame channel "Exploration" and ask ;)

I do this some on my prober alt. My ship of choice is the myrmidon and I fully recommend it for solo exploration. The reason I like the myrmidon is because it's cheap, quicker than a BS and can fit everything you could possibly need on any exploration site at the same time other than mining. Below is my setup. It has no trouble tanking any rats I've come across in a profession site (including 1.8M isk BS rat spawns) and typically has enough DPS. Killing BS's is a bit slow but still doable. It is optimized for low sec, hence the reason for the cloak and the plate. Without a point you can't really kill anyone with it but it's got enough tank and dps to chase off many would be attackers.

In regards to finding sites, just roam system to system and look for any cosmic signatures. You will want to focus your attention on Radar and Magnometric sites however if you find a low level wormhole (class 2 or below) you can solo those as well. The cov ops frigs are much better probers than the myrmidon above but they can't actually run the sites and due to the roaming nature of exploration, you can easily find yourself looking at a nice site that's 10 jumps away from your base. Running all the way back to swap your prober ship for a combat ship is a massive waste of time. Best to combine the two imho. -----------------------------------------------------

or you could have your alt in a covops probing and yourself doing the sites.

Dont use your helios as your hacking ship even after you have cleared the site. Hacking cans almost always spawns more npc's and they are often frigates and cruisers that will quickly eat your covert ops. Im not sure what your skills are but the myrmidon, ishtar, and dominix are the ships that I use for running sites. Also with the recent changes to probing you can actually just fit a core probe launcher onto any of them and not even bother with a dedicated probing ship. My probing skills are pretty good though so it might not be such a good idea for someone with low probing skills.

In regards of some Myrm to probe etc: If you somehow have the chance to do Exploration with two people (alt or corpmate, whatever) Just stick to a covert-ops for scanning. saves you plenty of time.
Helios lacks one highslot for a Salvager but apart from that, it's quite the same as my [Cheetah, DNightmare's Daily Life Utility] Nanofiber Internal Structure II Nanofiber Internal Structure II Nanofiber Internal Structure II
Cold-Gas I Arcjet Thrusters Gistii C-Type Small Shield Booster Analyzer II Codebreaker II
Covert Ops Cloaking Device II Sisters Expanded Probe Launcher, Sisters Core Scanner Probe I Salvager II
Gravity Capacitor Upgrade I Gravity Capacitor Upgrade I
Once you get used to the fast & efficient probing you'll do with a dedicated prober ship, you'll never wanna go back ;)
Cheers DNightmare
And about the issue when rats spawn after you hack a can: I've yet to meet a site where I wasn't able to warp out, cloak, warp back at 30-50 while my wingman killed the spawn, it's a multiplayer game anyway ;)
