Hi all.
Having flown Gallente for past 9 months and gotten bored I am stepping into Amarrian ships, now I have a few questions regarding Crystals.
1) What is the best for what... I assume some use less cap but give less damage/range? and some give more punch but shorter range + more cap?
Any tips here be awesome.
2) Whats the average life time of crystals in a l4 solo boat?

Standard crystals use the lease, Multi and Radio, and T2 variants, use the most.
I don't fly Amarr primarily, but the crystals should last you several missions, and more than pay for themselves in time saved.

1. Standard crystals use the least cap and are the middle of the road for damage and range. Cap use goes up when you move towards shorter or longer range crystals, with multifreq using the most (shortest range, highest damage).
Also, shorter range crystals tend to do a higher proportion of their damage as thermal, whereas long range crystals lean towards doing more EM.
2. t1 crystals last forever. t2 last a set number of shots, but it's about 4000 or something like that. Faction ammo is random, each shot has a slight chance of degrading the crystal, so it could last forever or break after 100 shots. Putting the 'irate' into 'Pirate' |

T2 crystals are same as faction, they will randomly pop. Ive had them last only a hand full of shots.
With pulses I used Amarr Navy Multi's over the conflag, the damage difference is minimal but the tracking negative on conflag is huge. For range use scortch all the way.
With beams, i used all t2.
Past that the above guys have the info for ya.

Standards = lead, multifreq = anitmatter the ammo is the same with a different name.
You'll find that tech 2 mega pulses have an optimal of around 30km with standards, with multifreq the opti is 15km. Scorch pushes the optimal out to 44km with no ship bonuses of course.
Lasers have a pretty crappy falloff, with a good optimal and great tracking. Make sure you have controled bursts and all your cap skills up as lasers are a little cap hungry.
One little mission trick on some level 4's, when you are being nueted out, shut a few of the guns down and see if you become stable. That little trick has kept me in a mission long enough to pop the neuters and be able to run all my guns again.
