May I recommend Einherjer and Aegir? Somewhat slower than Ensiferum, but especially Einherjer's old stuff is awesome.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yom8nNqmxvQ I don't know if you'd consider them "viking", but oh well.

Wintersun isn't classified as Viking Metal correctly so as finns were never vikings.

A lot of songs which are called "Viking Metal" have nothing to do with vikings at all. Most of it is based on folk songs which are maybe a couple 100 years old but not older. For example, "Sinklar's Visa" by Tyr is based on a Norwegian folk song about the Battle of Kringen (an epic lulzfest in the year 1612 where 1400 Scottish mercs got owned by a few 100 farmers with axes - no vikings were involved)
Metal fans just like to invent new names for their music all the time, because they are not happy with calling something "the style of that band / song". They have to call it "something metal" instead, define exactly what "something metal" is and what it is not, so they can insult everyone who likes music that is only slightly different from "something metal" as gay or non-true, preferrably both.
Quote: * VIKING METAL The protagonist arrives in a ship, kills the dragon with his mighty axe, skins the dragon and eats it, ****s the princess to death, steals her belongings and burns the castle before leaving."

That is an awesome link because my two favorites are in the top 3 and that makes all those that follow gay
Seriously though, that link could not have said it better. I was about to link a Mastadon song and decided that it was not Viking enough for this list being that it is more Stoner metal
