Biggest problem I see (at least for me) would be getting a base established in Iceland and paying for the courier contract to get my stuff over there so I won't have to pay for two offices at a time until I can dissolve the current home base. -------- Ideas for: Mining

The normal steps when you relocate between countries is that as soon as you got the job offer signed you start looking for somewhere to live. If the place is available before the job starts fine, if not it can be delt with anyways. Now fly back home, get a moving company to pack up all your stuff and place it in temporary storage minus a few suitcases worth that you will bring over yourself. Fly back to new country start the job, live off the suitcases either in a hotel/B&B or if by a miracle the house is already availabe in there. When the permanent accomodation is available have the stuff shipped from the storage at your former home.
It's not that big of a deal to move between countries as I moved from Sweden to England 9 years ago.

I agree, I reently moved myself. Luckily I got the appartment before I started work :).
I only had my laptop and a few cloth changes the first week until my stuff came, but it works out well enough :).

I have a problem with authority (especially when I disagree with their choices, and I sure do disagree with a lot of CCP's current priority choices) and serious problems having to work on a regular schedule (as in, waking up at a certain hour each day - my schedule is quite erratic, if you can even call it a schedule)... and as I get older, it's only getting worse. While not so long ago (say, about 3 years ago) my dream-job would have been at CCP, I would hate to have a boss (any boss) nowadays. But I guess if I'd really had to have a boss, CCP wouldn't be such a bad choice (and I do love cold weather, hate hot weather, but love hot water... so Iceland sounds dreamy). Too bad they most likely wouldn't want me anyway.

+1 to this. Much fun was had trying to organise phone calls/video conferences between our UK and US studios - by the time they'd all got into work, most of us were already thinking of going home.

How cheap are the places there? Also what does each office do in Iceland and USA? I know you do things in small scrum teams. Is there anything else we would need to know before applying to you guys.
Trying to think of any more questions.

These days, this kind of thing I find very curious in a software design company. Speaking as someone who worked a number of years remotely from home in software development (modular CRM/CMS system for healthcare industry), having a face-to-face once a week was plenty for us. Even that can easily be remedied with Skype or Oovoo these days... But then not everyone is cut out for self-managment. :)

What about in your datacentre? I would be really interested in DC operations, I currently work in the only Tier 3 N+1 DC in europe, would be really interesting to find out if CCP would like better redudency :)

The only thing I wonder is, if you've sent in an open application a while ago, and new positions open up, does one have to apply for the new positions or will HR actually take a look at one's open application and match it to the new positions?

Indeed, an Icelandic national secret!
I'm horribly tempted to apply, but I suppose I should wait until I finish this game design course first...
Maybe if I apply to be a GM for now... Ah, who am I kidding, that would be hellish. Though just for an opportunity to give some GMs a slap, might be worth it. -SIG- The true meaning of CCP; Completely Crap Patches. But I don't care, I haz CHOCOLATE. :D |

Whoever is interested in a job within CCP should read the DEV Blogs for programmers especially the technical ones and for sure always the volunteer program, you don't get closer to what's going within CCP.
PS. On the other hand if you are really interested in a job you already did this and even more. __________________________ CCP Sputnik CCP Core Engineering Software Engineer

Does being a volunteer help with your application, i ask this because no volunteer group will accept me because of my forum "behavour" of mass posting.
Will my posting habits hinder my oppertunities if i want to apply in the future?

Judging from your posting a lot of things will hinder you in applying to any position in the future. ___________________

i had a look at the open positions but i didn't see any mention of visa requirements. for the US for example, will CCP sponsor applicants without green card or is it a requirement to have one before applying?
