You can use any race to PVP in you just have to decide what kind of ship you wish to fly, get a tech 2 fit for it and train the skills.
I would recommend that you pick a cruiser (doesn't reall matter which one) blackbird, maller, caracal, rupture or stabber and see what you like to fly. It's better to loose 10mil per attempt then 200mil.
There should be smaller roaming gangs that go out, find one of those and fly with them so you get use to being shot and loosing ships. When you have more experiance then you can decide what BS's you need for which job.

In general you can say that PVP is based around armour tanking and guns. This leaves Amarr (fotm) and Gallente as goals. You've already chosen Amarr.
Racial BS 4 Controled burst 5 Large beam and large pulse laser specialisation 4
With that you'll start to be pretty reasonable.

i kinda wanted to take advantage of some of my drone skills (they still need to train a little more) and they fact that i have small hybrid turrets to V i was looking at going gallente for assault ships and use the Ishkur b/c it has drone bonuses and i can use small blaster spec skills... some people have said that it is a really good ship so i dunno... thanks for the help btw... _________________ The BIG Lottery |

Sorry but raven haters are all wrong. The the torp raven is fine for pvp:
Chooses damage (caldari navy bane vs minnie/gal/amarr t1 ships and caldari navy mjolr vs caldari) Chooses resists (kin/thermal vs gallente, em/thermal vs amarr) little cap consumption (launchers don't use cap, resists and mwd does) decent dps CAN fit tackle (2 large shield extenders, 2 active resists, point and mwd) ECM Drones
Ham Drake:
same as raven in its ability to dictate damage and resists and pretty much the same fit.
hams in highs, 2 shield extenders mwd, point and 2 reists mid, bcus and reactor/pdu/dcu in lows
blaster moa:
not the best cruiser but its not horrible. shines with resist rigs and tech 2 guns. A thorax/rupture/vex with a good pilot at the helm will melt it, but moas are underestimated so you will get funny kills.
cormorant:
blasterfit it + full tackle and any frig/destroyer/intie is dead.
SO caldari is fine.

Edited by: Jacob Holland on 24/07/2009 08:10:12 I would suggest starting by determining how much ISK you want to spend on this goal this month. Then determine how many fights you want to get into - One a day? Three a day? 20 per week?
Now divide the amount of money you want to spend buy the number of fights you want to have in the month... Want to spend 100 mil and have 20 fights a week? Then you have a 1.125mil budget per fight.
Now what can you buy, fit and fly now for your budget?
Get several of them, fit them and get out there.
Remember to count pod costs and insurance for this. |

Don't overcomplicate things, and never fly something you cannot afford to replace instantly when it goes *pop*.
My advice would be to make a fresh alt character, train it to fly a Rifter, and use that to get to grips with PVP.
It is small, fast, agile and it packs a punch. But most importantly combined with a fresh young alt it is the perfect way to get over the biggest hurdles most people face when moving into PVP: the instinctive fear of dying, the inability to keep your situational overview when things get hectic and the experience with targets / racial bonuses / ship class strong and weak points.
Right now you are a PVE pilot. You are focused on mechanisms and point & click repetitions based on known and established patterns (the mission & npc layouts). If you want to move into PVP start by doing it cheap & simple. You will die lots of times, but it will get you the experience and as you get over that instinctive fear of dying you will build up that experience even faster, to a point where you will get comfortable and recognise strong and weak points in opponents out of reflex.

Why wouldn't he just train for the rifter on his curent account? He'll train it eventually anyway if he sticks to being a pvp'er
