Quickly, is a mission runner considered a carebear?

In any case; I'm not a carebear, i once shot stuff.

Not necessarily a full blown carebear just because they run missions, unless it's all they do. If they run missions to make isk to buy ships for pvp then they're only partly carebear.

This, IMO makes a carebear.
Missioning/mining/whatever doesn't enter into it. KB |

Missioning is about the only non-PvP activity there is. In fact that's why a lot of people (including me) have a problem with it.
What makes a carebear isn't what profession they do, it's expecting that they dont have to be responsible for their own safety and success in the game.

Avoiding fights and avoiding pvp aren't the same thing.
When I am blowing past gate camps with valuable stuff ( even if it's just me and my implants ), my pvp encounter is successful- I denied the pirates a fight and my loot.
In fact, you might say I griefed them.. damn cloaks and instawarp shuttles. =)

If PvP comes from the heart, you're a player. If it comes from the mouth, you are a carebear.

if a carebear is a ********* who takes no risk of ever losing his ship then i accuse the sniggwaffe members (all with -10 sec. satus) who hang out at Tama station, griefing with carrier support,of being the biggest carebears in eve.

What about mining, ninja salvaging, contract running, datacore mining and sitting in the station picking your nose? On an unrelated note, Kneel before Zod! |

How to tell you are a Carebear ;
You are Caldari.
You've never been to lowsec.
You've never been to nullsec.
None of your active or saved ship fittings warp prevention modules on them.
You think mining is fun.
You get wardecced all the time/Are in an npc corp.
All your friends have the same as the above.

2 simple questions
does you has drake?
does you use it for missions?
if you answered yes to both, then you are a carebear. --------------------------

The opinions of players simple-minded enough to stuff tens-of-thousands of subscribers from all over the world with vastly different world views and life experiences into a small box labeled "carebear" are supposed to mean something?
If you just got out of middle school and need to label everything with a simplistic generalization, then do what you have to do to massage your fragile ego.
I think most players concentrate on what they're going to do the next time they log in, labels be damned.
Say "hi" next time you see me on local in low-sec or 0.0, but you'll never find my ship, I guarantee that.

What if a newer member of your corp runs his mouth in local, which precipitates a war dec that immediately gets recinded when the declaring corp sees you in space for the first time and notices your birth date? |

Rarely happens, but if they did then they are griefers looking for easy kills.

I generally consider myself a pvper
However, sometimes I go farming rats in 0.0 belts, and when I do that, I can say "I'm going to carebear for a bit"
So, I'd say that while you are running missions, you are carebearing, even if temporarily, and thus, in that time, you are a carebear

Edited by: Vicky Somers on 13/07/2009 17:54:19 Carebears? moar liek troll ****s. Pirates get ****ed off with carebears because they fly their mult-billion isk caldari navy ravens in high sec space missions and not into the pirates' blasters. Carebears are probably the biggest griefers out there. Just flaunting their under aged butts in tightly fitted... modules. They're like the jailbait of EVE.
Which of course makes molesting one all the more satisfying.
This guy explains it much better:

Edited by: Kyra Felann on 13/07/2009 18:25:42 Mission-running is about the only real form of PvE there is in the game, since there is no competition and as many missions for anyone as they can possibly do, I'd say yes.
To me a mission runner is much more of a 'carebear' than a miner, industrialist or trader. The latter three at least compete on some level with other players.
Of course, when a mission-runner sells loot or salvage, they become involved in competition (and thus PvP), but mission-running itself is pretty much pure PvE.

If it's non-pvp which by definition isn't affecting another player-character, why does it bother anyone?

Because only carebears get bothered by stuff that happens in video games. Fun for hire! |
