Also an example of how a nicely filled in template and an audit don't mean something can't go wrong. I am currently guessing either something happened to glas mir, or something drove him to scamming. If it was an intended scam from the start though, well done, it's quite perfectly executed.

No, I don't agree. If it was intended as a scam from the beginning, it was executed terribly because he did make the first interest payment.
I think Krisha Worthington has the right questions.
Vaerah Vahrokha, do you still have API access or have any data from after your audit? Can you tell us whether glas mir has been doing anything recently?

An audit checks wether the investee fulfills the claimed pre-requisites, has a clean past, is not using a character for sale and so on.
Warnings and red flags are also given.
Finally, a section labelled:
Risks The largest risks of failure, in descending order of probability, involve:
- unexpected factors affecting the value of the speculated items - investing too much in one item seen as "best" (aka "betting everything on one horse") that post patch reveals not to be so good - burn out or other real life issue - scam of a business without collateral.
Shows in a fairly accurate way the possible causes of failure.
That's all about the audit, expecially when it's well indicated about "no collateral".
As for Glas Mir, it's several days I don't see him in game.
But I see transactions made even today, but like it's just preset orders being sold. I can confirm bond interest money did not exit his pockets for this month and I find this line (in the OP) quite odd:
"15% interest paid on August 15th, September 15th, repaid September 15th".
While I can't know what's he's up to, it apparenlty looks like he is off the game since some days ago. - Auditing and consulting

He hasn't edited the OP since July. Although it is a bit strange, I think he meant something like "15% interest will be paid on August 15th, September 15th, will be repaid September 15th".
At least he hasn't transferred the isk to an alt or anything like that.

I added him to my address book after my last post (bottom of pg 4) and sent him an evemail. He hasn't answered but i did see him log in for about 2 minutes yesterday.
Tried to catch him in a convo but wasn't fast enough.

Ugh, brain fart, you're right.
And I was more pointing at the fact that some people seem to think audit = safe. I did read your audit and the risk assessment.

Agreed on the audit though, it does not provide any level of security, it is simply another mechanism to reduce risk, but not to zero...

Edited by: Emmgel on 27/09/2009 21:22:05 Any further developments on API tracking? Not caught him online, any activity past old buy/sell orders?
Probably being optimistic, but the lack of character activity and the fact that funds haven't been transferred to another character doesn't incline me to write this one off just yet.
Note Glas Mir also has reservations in the Titans4U venture... seems odd that you'd do that on a character whose market reputation you planned to write off, why not do it via an alt? Odd...

Any updates? Has glas mir been online recently, or has there been any suspicious activity? At the moment, I am guessing that he has been "hit by a bus" or burned out, since he apparently still has the isk.

How do you know this? Is it based on API data, or is it just not seeing him online?

1) I have been recovering past surgery so I could stay online for 14 hours a day and I have not found him popping the buddy logon icon.
2) He is training a skill due to expire in 15 days, like he went off for a travel or something. But that's just my conjecture. - Auditing and consulting

Personally, I choose to believe that the scamming was unintentional.
@Vaerah: Are the API credentials you have still valid? Or are you going off cached data?

I managed to catch on Glas Mir and ask him about his departure.
[22:19:40] Vaerah Vain > I noticed you sort of disappeared off MD, including your bond. Are you going to do something or I can post it's defaulted and it's definitive?
[22:20:06] glas mir > yes for all purposes I've quit the game and have no intention of paying back the isk
He went on with more RL things I won't elaborate upon.

Well, that's unfortunate. Since he was logged on, he could have transferred his assets to the investors or you. He at least should have returned whatever isk he had. Although I don't know the details of his RL issues, I don't think they justify this default since some of the isk could be recovered without much more effort.

I see him in the game logged on. So has he really quit?
What was his excuse or reason for quitting?

Well the fact hes logging in for things other then settling debts makes it a weak quit.
Will you tell us his personal reasons, and if not do you think they are remotely valid? |

Well, he could have said: "I scammed you all, fools and now am enjoying those 8B in your face" if he wanted and the outcome would not be different.
Anyway I feel it'd be vastly unprofessional if not EULA violating to state about personal RL happenings of third parties so I won't disclose here, despite it's really really a banal cause. For the Investors interested in details, they can inquire in game. - Auditing and consulting

Thank you for notifying us Vaerah. I trust the surgery recovery is going well.
Since he's quitting, no doubt he won't need the ISK and can return it to investors forthwith. Either that or he's a liar. Either way, failure to return ISK to his investors will mean he will soon find it entertaining to undock with that character.
