how about letting us do drop-in replacements of certain non-mission-critical files like textures, sound, and fonts? is this feasible?
i for one would LOVE to replace the font with something more readable. and spiffy up some of the sounds. and give certain ships textures (or at least a color palette) that is worthy of them. |

As soon as CCP bring in teh ability to customize somethign by yourself without a sanctioned tool people will find a way around it, the whole idea is that everyone is on a level playing field.
If there is a way there will be will to get through to it. Whats to stop player changing the alpha levels of the cloak to be visible. ------------------------------------- Read my bio ingame for tips on how to live and not be called nasty names by me. |

Any modification or (monitoring) of the client is a breach of the EULA and CCP can ban you for it. People have asked about replacing the splash screen shown at start up and CCP have said no.
The reason is some modifications could be made to textures and sounds that could give an in game advantage. For example replace each model of a ship with a version that displays text listing the ship and its strengths and weaknesses. Would help in combat by proving details without the look up. The UI appears to just be a layer on top of the 3D-world - giving us the flexibility to modify that wouldn't convey any game breaking advantage.
A set of xml files that determine how windows get drawn, that could be modified would be great. CCP wouldnt need to give us the ability to change anything rendered on the 3D view, just the layer on top of it.

CCP believe it would be possible to get an in game advantage out of it. From experience having a customer UI help many moons ago when I was playing another MMO.
Also there is the fact if CCP change the code, they have to deal with all the problems resulting form custom UI's that result as people report faults.
