This is my current setup for solo low-sec roams and I wanted to get some constructive feeback on it. It has performed very well but I still feel there is room for improvment.
[Jaguar, Jag Gistii Boosted w/Nos] Pseudoelectron Containment Field I Gyrostabilizer II Gyrostabilizer II
1MN Afterburner II Medium F-S9 Regolith Shield Induction Gistii B-Type Small Shield Booster Warp Scrambler II
150mm Light AutoCannon II, Republic Fleet EMP S 150mm Light AutoCannon II, Republic Fleet EMP S 150mm Light AutoCannon II, Republic Fleet EMP S Small Nosferatu II
Anti-Kinetic Screen Reinforcer I Anti-Kinetic Screen Reinforcer I
Even with 5's in the necssary skills this still needs a 3% CPU implant to work(or you can down grade one or two fittings to named).
DPS: 158 (w/o implants), 182 overheated, 333 volley EHP: 8848 Def: 94/94 Resists: 78/64/72/55 Speed: 1052 Cap stable at 64% w/everything running
Tried a RL in the extra high but the additional DPS was minor so I went with the Nos for a bit of Neut protection.
The obvious drawbacks are A) Cost. The booster runs about 25-30m or more but you can't make the setup work without it. Rigs are cheap tho. B) No web. This is a question of personal taste, mostly, but I like to use one when possible.
Feel free to post any improvements you think could be made or your own personal setups that you feel may be better.

Edited by: Hotice on 19/06/2009 03:04:02 Is this solo? I always wanted to do it in either wolf or jaguar. I'm thinking about using buffer tank on Jaguar instead of active tanking. Does your setup deal enough dps to take down cruisers? |

Yes this setup is for solo. While this setup is an active tank, the F-S9 gives the rep some time to work. This thing can totally take down T1 cruisers but like any other ship you need to choose your targets carefully.
If you are interested in trying a buffered Jag try this: [Jaguar, Jag 2MSE] Gyrostabilizer II Micro Auxiliary Power Core I Gyrostabilizer II
1MN Afterburner II Medium F-S9 Regolith Shield Induction Medium F-S9 Regolith Shield Induction Warp Scrambler II
150mm Light AutoCannon II, Republic Fleet EMP S 150mm Light AutoCannon II, Republic Fleet EMP S 150mm Light AutoCannon II, Republic Fleet EMP S 'Arbalest' Rocket Launcher I, Caldari Navy Gremlin Rocket
Anti-Kinetic Screen Reinforcer I Anti-Kinetic Screen Reinforcer I
note: this is not my setup(found on a forum somewhere) but tried it a for a few days and it did quite well.

I've tried buffer tanking fit, cannot fit the 2nd medium shield extender. So guess I have to get an active tanking then. going to try wolf too. I'm going to need train more fitting skills for my alter I guess.

I love my Wolf, it lacks that web which can be a problem but combined with an MWD/Scram you can bounce in and out of range as needed.
DPS is also much larger and whilst I prefer not to buffer tank mine (400mm plate on an AF and you aren't far from being a cruiser with less dps), with a 400mm plate you are approacing 10k.
As far as I am concerned the Jaguar is the heavy tackler, the Wolf is the solo PvP weapon. The DPS from the Jaguar just isn't enough. |

True, long range ships can be a major problem for a Jag or Wolf if not handled properly but I have to disagree with your statement about them being killed by anything with a MWD. I kill MWD ships everyday but I confess the tackle can be tricky. MWD is worthless if you get scrambled (and you will if fighting at close range). I do think a MWD is great on most ships but solo Jag is not one of them, IMHO. In the end, I feel its just a matter of personal preference and play style. |

cap stable w/o neut running, you can rig it if you really want too -_- but i find this is best (no sig penalty for shield rigs)

Well, heres my take on the Wolf/Jag solo pvp debate. Yes, the Wolf's DPS and volley are quite a bit higher than the Jag's giving the Wolf a nice advantage but thats where it ends.
A)The Jag is far better in terms of fitting versatility, the Wolf can only be loaded a couple ways that actually work.
B)Its also hard to set up a decent tank on the Wolf w/o giving up speed(plates and armor rigs kill your speed) and as an armor tanker the Wolf has 2 huge resist holes(kin/explo). Not true for the Jag where you can set up a pretty kick ass shield tank and not give up any speed at all, and let's face it, speed is a major concern if you are flying AF's. If you rig then you can easily fill the Jag's kin resist hole.(you do get a minor sig penalty for shield tanking tho but I have never found it to be a big deal). Now, speed may not be much of a concern if you use MWD but remember that MWD's can and will get scramed, thats why I AB most of my AF's.
C)Cap. Lets face it the Wolf's cap blows. True you can fit a Nos for some extra, but you will have to give up your RL thus lowering the all-important DPS advantage of the Wolf. The Jag on the otherhand has loads of cap that lasts and lasts and lasts. Even w/o a Nos the Jag will out cap a Nos-fitted Wolf any day of the week.
I just can't see myself giving up these great Jag advantages for some extra Wolf DPS. I would , however, love to see your Wolf setup as I do sometimes fly them in small gangs where some extra DPS is useful.

tried out the fit in the OP and i gotta say im very impressed. fun to fly, tanks like a beast, endless cap and respectable dps. within 2 hours i took out an ishkur, blarpy and a semi-fail fit cruiser without breaking a sweat. i do miss the web and the booster costs more than the hull but i gotta say the performance more than offsets the cost of the booster. gonna keep a few of these in my hanger from now on. |
