Meh it's just A-holism.... they have nothing better to do with their time. Also makes them feel better than you. (they would never make such a typo) I will say this....if you are flaming someone trying to be a smart ass you should really make sure your grammar is spot on.
Other than that if i know what someone meant then I don't really care.
Just remembered people with worthless English degrees need to do it in order to justify their wasted time spent getting said degree. They work at Denny's anyway. Do give them a break. _________________________ HATERS!!!!

Heh, I would've liked english more at school if it was spent doing more then dissecting tedious poems week in week out to find the deeper meaning.
But then there is so much useless **** you learn at school, up to primary school (or 5th-6th grade as you yanks would call it) is about the level you need to survive in modern society, I can't even remember anything I learned in secondary school.

Nothing says "I'm stupid" louder than someone writing "your stupid".

so say if the person has dyslexia (some people may have it even if they are native) you would ridicule them? |

I don't correct people for spelling often, but, believe me, the urge is there. In my case it's a carryover from my youth, I was always the youngest/smallest/smartest kid in my class, so in retaliation for the size/age teasing I received, I began the "You're a moron" type corrections on everyone around me. I would read encyclopedias just to know stuff to make people look stupid. I still treasure the time I made my auto-executive uncle look like he didn't know his own job. Of course, having a low opinion of the world for many years has had its side effects, so I make an effort not to do that anymore, but sometimes I still do.

It is strange how people get past the browsers' build-in spelling correction and the forum's preview option, but then complain when someone points their mistakes out to them. |

If English isn't your first language then it's acceptable and reasonable that your writing skills aren't up to par as someone who's grown up around English all their life.
If you have grown up around English all your life and you still can't write correctly you look like a lazy idiot. No one has ever written anything serious or anything that should be taken seriously that can't be bothered to use proper spelling and grammar. If you can't write well people have to piece together your meaning from your incomplete and incoherent babelings.

It is generally not right, but when someone comes off with a condescending, better-than-thou attitude, and they are native English speakers to boot, I love to see their 'superior' intellect called on the carpet when they can't spell, punctuate, use proper grammar or make paragraphs. |

Confirming that 50% of EVE-O posters suffer from dyslexia.
Also they are immature brats intentionally butchering English for the sake of looking "cool". They are just PITA for us who do not have English as 1st language. The best thing you can do is to completely ignore them or troll them. Their posts are likely crap anyway.

To be honest in my experience people who don't have English as their first language are often better at it than many native speakers (in written form anyway). The reason for this IMO is that in Britain we aren't taught grammar properly at school, well I wasn't anyway, and I think it shows. From what I've been told from Europeans I knew at University they were taught English properly from a young age and generally have a better grasp of fundamentals like sentence structure. |

Edited by: goodby4u on 12/06/2009 00:53:45 My grammar is terrible, but typically it is at the very least coherent.
In spite of this I do sometimes ***** about other people's grammar(even if its their second language) because badly placed commas, periods or what have you can destroy the point of one's post and cause me to waste my time arguing over something we agree upon(see what I mean by bad grammar?)
All this said, when you pull somebody's post apart and proclaim that he has miss placed one comma or forgot to use you're instead of your or visa versa your being a **** and are normally wasting your time.

To OP: Because you're using things you were supposed to learn during elementary school. If people are so stupid they don't know the difference between your/you're, to/two/too, their/they're/there, they deserve to be ridiculed.
I, however, NEVER ridicule someone who is not a native english speaker. But I will politely point out their errors, in an effort to help them learn.
