Nice guide :) I like the focus on ice mining. Halada's mining guide, as excellent as it is, doesn't cover that aspect in as much detail as yours.

Sounds interesting... is there a copy at a host that doesn't take ages to load and lets me save a copy to my hd without giving out my data?

I've updated it, actually this gives me an idea, will look into later on setting up accounts where you can update your own PDFs or tools. It would be a good feature to get all the excellent spreadsheets and tools etc into one place/page. |

quick question your guide says the magic number for cycle time is 274.83sec but i have at the moment 220.82 in a mackinaw
that is with exhumer 5, ice harvesting 5, on my mining account mack fitted with 2 x ice harvestors plus 2 ice harvestors upgrades
with an orca with mining director and foreman skills to 5, warfare link spec 4 plus mining foreman mindlink
and running the mining link - laser opt |

I disagree with the guide's suggestion of empty mid-slots in the Mackinaw. You are better off filling them with Civilian Shield Boosters. With all them going you are still cap stable, and hisec rats can't hurt you.
Personally I'd go for hauling capacity though. You can fit and rig for about 13k m3, which is enough for 3 full cycles.

Thanks Jokiller, I will have a look and see what the skills the orca pilot has that comes on fleet ops with me.

Tau, I do see what your saying but as this guid shows all ways you can mine ice i have got both in there and that setup with the rigs is in there under the AFK ice mining part ---------------------------------------
Thank you all for the feed backs so far this is only the first updates ive done sofar and i will have a new version out on the 17th this month |

Nice guide BTW, but here are a few things I've noticed...
1) There is 1 skill your missing, Mining Upgrades 4, as part of the mack fit out
2) Max time on a solo mack pilots is 276.57 sec vs the 274.83 you have listed unless I missed a skill or something. 500 sec (Ice miner II) * .75 (Ice processing 5) * 1.25 (Mack Penalty) * .75 (Exumers 5) * .91 (upgrade II) * .91 (upgrade II) * .95 (slot 10 5% implant) = 276.57 sec
3) When you are looking at an Orca pilot that has the slot 10 mining implant they will have cyber 5 and will most likely have link warfare spec trained to 5 as well as the industrial command ship to 4 or 5.
With a maxed out mining director you can expect to see a mining cycle time bonus of 25.875 % taking the maxed out mack pilot from 276.57 to 205.01 sec. 2% (mining link opti) * 5 (mining director 5) * 1.5 (link warfare spec 5) * 1.5 (slot 10 mining dir implant) * 1.15 (industrial cmd ships 5) = 25.875%
4) My standard Orca setup for ice is: High û Mining optimization link (mining cycle time), passive defense (armor resists 15%), shield harmonizing (shield resists 15%) Mid û XL shield booster II, Shield Boost amp II, Photon II and an Invuln II Low û 2x Cargo expander II
The reason I set this way is that it improves the survivability of my gang mates having the extra resists. The shield booster is not used for continual run in high sec as there isnÆt anything but a gank that can kill you when your passive, but the XL + boost amp allows gank survivability.
One last little detail is in the refining section, you mention that you need ice processing 5 for perfect refines, which is not accurate. In a 50% base refining station with refining 5 and refining efficiency you only need ice processing 1 to get perfects. In a 35% station with refining 5, refining efficiency 5 and ice processing 5 you will still loose either .5% or 2.5% I canÆt remember which, but the 5% waste decreasing implant will help you on that one.

POS means Player-Owned Station, not "personal operating station". The language is a little hard to read at times, really could have used some proofreading, but the information is very helpful. |

I think there are quite a few people who might take issue with the following statement from the guide:
Quote: Fact: you can save over half your fuel bills for your POS by mining the ice yourself!
It promotes a mindset that completely ignores the opportunity cost of doing the mining yourself - during that time, you could make more isk doing something else (level 4 missions, for example) use that isk to purchase isotopes, and still have quite a bit of isk left over.
Minerals you mine yourself are not free. Neither is ice. |

Actually it means neither, POS used to stand for Player Owner Structure, but it's taken a more familiar name in the last 6 months of Player Owned Starbase. A POS never has and never will be a station. --

Toksyuryel & Kazuo first off im not having a go at you all just letting you know how to save the half fuel bills by mining ice.
Yes you could of sold the ice but think about it, What about the corporations that have a big ice mining fleet of 20+ or even 10+ you can fuel a POS for 1 month to 2 months with one mining op. and in that time you can talk to your mates play another game or even do some extra house work. Ice mining is a slow process that you are able to walk away a bit so when you off doing your houes work or just looking on youtube may a movie if you didnt ice mine then you would of made nothink so what you mined is somthink you would of never had there for saving you fuel costs.
Like right when i was writting this guide and mined 140 mil worth of ice by afk mining i would of never seen the isk if i just left it be and did the guide and didnt afk mine
Kazuo you said you could of done level 4 missions - maybe theres some people who are not mission runners there just inventors and miners
------------------------
I will change the POS thing next update i do thats for the guide I will not change (fact: you can save over half your fuel bills for your POS by mining the ice yourself!) i see it is true
Thanks for all the feedback :) -------------------------------- Over Done Ice Mining Guide Forum Post |

Nice job! One thing I would change on the Orca setup. I would dump the High slot Mining field enhancement that gives greater range on the roids. This is ok for ore belts but in ice belts not necessary. Replace with a tractor beam to haul in any stray cans. Not everyone will be within 2500m.
Cheers

The Rorqual-cycle-bonus is higher than the Orcas, so how low will the cycle-time get using a maxed out Rorqual as booster? |
