Edited by: Fennicus on 04/06/2009 23:50:23 I'm wondering if there's any information out there about what's next for EVE.
A cursory search comes up empty, but you never know, some of you might have got a CCP employee drunk and got them to spill the beans Mata Hari-style.
If there isn't any information yet, what do you reckon will come next? T3 frigates or other new ships, realistic looking planets, even more new space to explore? Will it be a rejiggering of game mechanics (sov, ECM etc.) pretending to be an "expansion", or fixes to factional warfare? Will we have a significant furthering of the EVE storyline, like we so spectacularly did with Empyrean Age (and so spectacularly almost didn't with Apocrypha)? Will CCP once again change the warp effect? And whatever happened to storefronts or player housing?

The thing I find with CCP and expansions is they announce close to nothing until it's just around the corner, like a few weeks until release. Although I was under the impression that we would be getting an extra expansion this year? or at least someone told me that, not too sure where the information came from though.

Winter 2009 : * we are sorry, Ambulation is not ready yet, but here's more teaser videos * we had a lot of nifty stuff in preparation, but it was cancelled due to lack of time, we promise it will be there in the next Neversday expansion * we have added plenty of shiny new stuff, which is either nearly useless or so insanely overpriced almost nobody will use it * 6478 typographical, ortographical and localisation settings fixed, or fixed better from last time, read about each and every one of them in the patch notes * due to popular demand, we have increased T3 drop rates by 0.075% * a ton of below-the-hood optimisations and improvements plus GM tools, all of which you will never see nor feel much of an effect from, but you'd have to take our word for it, they were all totally worth it * fixed so many exploits that we are even witholding their number this time, not just the details of what was fixed * that particular thing you guys were doing is now also deemed an exploit, so stop doing it ; you know who you are and you know what you were doing, we're just letting you know we know without having to contact you in person, so stop doing it or we will ban you without any additional warning

Or in other words...business as usual.
I've lost faith in this game. It's not entertaining for me. After some thought my biggest complaint is that god-awful training lag.
No matter how many hours I log in a battlecruiser or hauler, or use T1 weapons and ammo...it does nothing to get me any closer to progress. Instead I have to wait out the training timer.
Sure, you can argue "how many games allow you to progress without playing?" Well that's not the freakin point. It should allow me to progress even moreso while playing. I'm tired of being broke and doing the same missions over and over again. I dont do low-sec because it's just not worth it...and wormholes are just low-sec pt2.
I am bored out of my mind with this game. Don't think I'm gonna renew.
1. No you can have my stuff...maybe EVE will be different someday...some year. I have over 200 BPO's. 2. No, I'm not going "back" to WoW. Never played it...elves are for pussies. 3. STFU 4. Have a nice day 5. Im depressed.

Edited by: Kytanos Termek on 05/06/2009 01:49:59 Probably not so extreme. Eventually maybe, but you don't want to dilute the population. If they introduce new space, it will probably be like the drone regions, a bunch (3-6) cuddled together. Or it will be 4-6 sprinkled evenly over the universe.
They will do it gradually, not just double the size of conquerable space. a few regions at a time until we reach that.

There are two new Space based MMO's comeing out this summer/fall.
Each of those games will pull new people into Space based MMO's. But just like most mmo's, they'll loose about 40-70% of their players over the first 6 months.
So CCP needs to do something this Winter/Spring that will get them a LOT of media attention. That attention, needs to snag folks who are interested in the Space based MMO games, but something that the other games DON'T have.
PVP.. They all have. Missions.. They all have. Markets... They all have. Missions/quests/storylines... They all have.
What DON'T they have???

But this time it will have two characters wandering around the purpose-built dynamic lighting demonstration villa, and one of them will be carrying a flaming, sputtering torch, just to show how dynamic and awesome the lighting actually is!
And you didn't use awesome enough.
And I'd prefer it if the next patch was just a few thousand bug fixes with no new features, no rebalancing, no tweaks. Just bug fixes, like stopping the overview from walking across the screen each time you undock, like drones spontaneously disconnecting from the controlling ship, and "hard walls" between contiguous and connected grids.

The CSM said somewhere that the winter expansion is about improving sovereignty mechanics and 0.0 (amongst other stuff).
So, it could be that there would be a massive expansion of 0.0 space.
But I hope they would do one step after the other. FIRST improving 0.0 mechanics and looking how it develops and if things are as expected and then in a SECOND step adding more space.
But more space isn't the problem really. The problem is that Eve universe can be crossed with a few jumps with the help of titan bridges and pos jumpbridges. Those things need to be changed! If you change these two things, the Eve universe will automaticall feel much larger - no need to add more systems for that.

Thanks for the interesting (and amusing) replies.
A good point is made about new space-based MMOs coming out; EVE's going to have to do more than just change what we already have, but then I suspect CCP have been in the game long enough to not be worrying about competitors too much.

Let me just correct that:
The people who has said that Winter 2009 will be 0.0 sov, are speculating.
CCP has stated that they are looking to revamp 0.0 sov very soon. When is still unknown to the CSM. The next expansion is a possibility. But CCP has yet to confirm that.
We have asked CCP in our upcoming Q&A with them. But we are yet to receive answer from them. |

I actually think the new competition will help CCP focus their attention on the existing stuff. If a potential player sees a space game where they are lagged out for most of a battle (factional warfare, 0.0 kiddies), or a space game where everything runs smoothly, what do you think they're going to go for? You can get away with having less in a game if at all works smoothly, than you can with having loads of features that don't work properley. EVE will definately need balancing in order to compete.
No, I think existing game mechanics will become more important over the next year. They will continue with the walking in stations, because as everybody who has played World Of Warcraft knows, most MMO players just hang around in a single space for most of the time, occasionally typing in emotes. However, this is going to be a side-project, much as it always has been.
