so I have this question, how long do you think it would take to lose 3 or 4 stone weight (55 pounds)(25 kilos) if you spent 1 hour at the gym each day, and ate boiled chicken and rice for dinner each day, and did not eat after 6pm, and consciously avoided dairy foods (except milk)
I know its kinda an open ended question because of how varied people's weight/fitness level/metabolism is, but would like to have get some rough estimates

It's better to eat something every few hours or so, to keep the system burning.
Vegetables !!! Fruit !!! That diet of yours will make your health fail fast. And Eggs !
Get some food advice from your local health club.

You want to lose 55 lbs you need to work out every day to the point of throwing up, if you don't throw up you didn't work hard enough.
Balanced meals combined with the don't-eat-so-much diet, and drink nothing but water. Should take about 12 weeks

Count about two to three months if you don't totally destroy your nutrition.
Best advice I can give you is pick up a sport you enjoy even if it's just once a week, to complement your trips to the gym. It's far easier to exercise intensely for hours when it's fun.

eat little but often.
cut out anything high fat on a regular basis.
drink water or squash rather than pop
when hungry eat fruit / veg / suppliment.
its not just your diet and the gym, its your life!
I eat pretty much what i want for dinner, and but make sure i keep in check what i have for breakfast and lunch (excluding sundays as thats fatty day)
and i walk about 1-3 miles each day.
its all about ballance bro
dont kill yourself getting there quick, do it the right way, slowly but surely.

One to two pounds a week is healthy. You might lose more at first as you sweat the water off but one to two pounds of fat can be done. I'd say any where between a year to six months you could do it. The hardest part is to keep at it. I've been exercising 6 days a week since November but I've kept my diet basically the same and I've lost 20 pounds. Stuck at 165 though so I may have to change up my diet of beer and pizza's. But yeah just keep at it. Give it about 2 months at least and you'll actually start to like going to the gym. Oh and if you get on a tread mill make sure it's one in the back of the room so you can discretely stare at all the hot chicks around you. Does wonders when you're trying to remember why you're working out in the first place :)

First 2 stone will go fast (1-2months), which can be quite motivating. Cardio should work well here to improve your metabolism and simply burn calories. I advice biking/swimming initially over running if you're 5 stone too heavy. It's a lot easier on the knees.
The third will start to go slower (2-4 months), since you should be replacing fat with muscle mass instead. Start mixing in more and more strength training to support this. Muscle mass will make you burn calories even while at rest. Eat enough protein.
Around the 4th or 5th stone you might hit a plateau, where even increasing the intensity of your training to ludicrous level does nothing. The good thing is that it also will be quite hard to slip back from this point. You need to be very patient here and sometimes you can wriggle out of it with zig zag dieting.
Still being motivated to go to the gym gets crucial at the end. If you don't push through you will probably eventually slide back. Like someone already said it really helps to find a sport that you enjoy doing. The whole thing will take like a year but after that you need to keep sporting 2-3 times a week for the rest of your miserable life

Do not watch the time, but watch your weight.
That is all you need to do.
When you watch the time then your weight will go up and down every few months or years, and whenever you think the time for losing weight is over.
If you have become overweight, and for whatever reason, then watching your weight is something you have to do for the rest of your life. -- If there is anything in your life you fear of losing, then keep your mouth shut once in a while. |

so the general consensus seems to be between 12 weeks and 24 weeks depending on diet and lifestyle, I need to do this in 100 days from today (for unspecified reasons) thats a little over 3 months!

About 6 to 12 months. If you don't want to make yourself sick while at it or suddenly regain it back after, you'd want to lose weight at rate of 1-2 pounds a week.
What you eat does not matter that much, like avoiding milk and eating chicken, or when you eat it. What matters is how much calories total you consume. So if you burn 2000 calories a day doing normal stuff, another 300 at the gym, but then you eat enough chicken/rice for 2300 calories then it ain't gonna matter what you eat - you just won't lose weight. It's simple thermodynamics.
The advice runs that you should eat throughout the day, more protein/fats in morning and carbohydrates towards the evening, and have a good mix of foods. Thing is that that food you eat doesn't contain just calories but also all kinds of essential vitamins, minerals, fats, etc. that your body cannot synthesize. The moment you start eating less you're also going to be depriving yourself of that stuff. So quite obviously you don't want to cut your intake of food drastically or eat just chicken and rice all the time or intake that stuff only once a day.

you can be as healthy as a hourse go running each day eat nothing intresting except your 6 dozen hard boiled eggs and on the way home from your morning run your hit by a bus
go out enjoy life get fat and die in the middile of a loveley tender piece of steak ************ are you getting your 5 a day. |

Sure, the gym may end in DEATH!! but your weight loss programme will end with you wishing you were DEAD!! in week three!! Then again, that never used to stop me.
You also have to remember that all weight loss programmes are a balance of diet and exercise, and with this particular diet it is important that you dance from dusk till dawn in some field, sweaty high st. basement, 24hr Tesco at least 4 nights a week. Fields are best as you don't get thrown out for simultaneously chain-smoking.

This is so true, a 24HR Tesco's (or any 24/7 shopping facility) is a must, random urges for **** must be fulfilled as well as having a constant supply of ***s and beer. This is a 2 week bender (DIET) so try not to use the **** all at once otherwise the fortnight will cost you an absolute fortune. I find reading the stories helps to make each magazine go that much further.

I lost 30lbs in a month once. I did it by counting calories and limiting myself to 700-1000 calories and doing a 400-500 calorie workout every day. This is very bad for you but if you've gotta do it it is possible.

Not quite true.
After exercise (and I mean a good workout that elevates your heart rate for at least 20 minutes), your body will continue to burn calories at an excelerated rate for up to an hour after your complete your workout. This is why you should not eat for at least an hour AFTER having exercised, as your body is using your fat reserves during this time.
Also, everyone burns calories while at "rest", it's just that the more muscle you have, the more calories your burn. Using the example above, you would still lose weight, it would just take more time. But slow and steady for weight loss is the key.
I will also recommend eating lots of fruits, vegetables, and SALADS. Salads are a low calorie food that really will fill you up and make you feel full, and there are plenty of ways to dress up a salad that won't bust your belt (try marinating chicken in fat free italian dressing, then grill it, slice it, and put it on a salad, it's quite tasty). Well, technically yes...
In reality unless you're a bodybuilder built like a young Schwarzenegger then muscle building will make you burn about as many more calories a day as you would by chewing gum all day.
If you wanna lose weight you really want to do cardio. If you are already skinny and want to tone your abs or biceps then you want to work on weights and sit ups. -- Distortion| Distortion 2 Preview |

You will run out of willpower after a week (Not bashing you, but noone can so drastically change their lifestyle so fast). Also, you will be miserable and constantly hungry. You will not have energy to go to the gym so much.
Start out slow. Set a goal to go to the gym every other day for a hour and a half. Eat healthy. Eat a small meal every four hours, don't starve yourself after 6 pm. The reason for this is that your body actually uses a whole ton of energy to process the food you eat, so keeping your digestive system constantly active will burn a whole lot more. You will also feel better.
But really, stop talking to the internet. Go talk to a personal trainer, your gym will probably have one available. He will give you better advice than any amount of internet will.
Edit; Also, studies show that people who go on extreme crash diets will in the vast majority of cases gain back all that weight and usually more in about six months. If you wanna get thin, change your lifestyle.

Ok its going to take 6 months realistically...if you do it safely and properly..cut out the rice you dont want tons of carbs..chicken and veg, fruit etc..cut out everything sweetie wise, but give yourself treats..
and check out the low fat stuff, cos its usually pumped full of sugar! which ppl dont realise, yoghurts, innocent drinks etc.
eating after 6pm thats just starving yourself, you need to eat small but often, that gets your metab going.
also ensure you change your cardio routines..
