I'm having a problem getting EVE running in windows 7 64.
I've downloaded the full client and installed it in XP sp3 compatibility mode. When I click on the desktop icon to open eve I get to the splash screen, it waits there for 20 secs or so then closes.
I have tried starting with the log server running and this is what I get from the point I start getting warnings:
1992009.06.01 10:19:35:647Unhandled exception in tasklet <TaskletExt object at 3b8a808, abps=1001, ctxt=None> 2002009.06.01 10:19:35:649EXCEPTION #1 logged at 06/01/2009 11:19:35 Unhandled exception in <TaskletExt object at 3b8a808, abps=1001, ctxt=None> 2012009.06.01 10:19:35:649Caught at: 2022009.06.01 10:19:35:649/common/lib/bluepy.py(37) in CallWrapper 2032009.06.01 10:19:35:649Thrown at: 2042009.06.01 10:19:35:649/common/lib/bluepy.py(24) in CallWrapper 2052009.06.01 10:19:35:649/common/lib/autoexec_client_core.py(81) in Startup 2062009.06.01 10:19:35:649Exception: 2072009.06.01 10:19:35:649ERROR_FILE_NOT_FOUND: [Error 2] The system cannot find the file specified: 'SHGetFolderPath'
There was a lot more of the log server, but I have posted what I guess may be relavent. I can supply more if required.
Now I have read a few other posts on this and have seen that for someone just hitting alt+enter fixed it as eve was opening in hidden mode. This is NOT my problem. I have also read that for some eve is still running in the task manager. It is NOT for me.
Any help would be very much appreciated

did you try installing without any compat-settings ?
i did, and id worked without any problems so far (windows 7 rc1 x64). since windows xp is slightly different with folders to vista and beyond and since eve is released for working with vista, i wonder why you did not try to install without compat-settings. i mean windows 7 is just windows vista sp3 somehow

I've had the same problem for a few weeks now but just fixed it. SHGetFolderPath translates virtual folders to real path names -- like 'My Documents' to /Users/etc/etc -- and couldn't find what it was looking for. In my case, my 'My Documents' folder resides on a separate partition but the drive prefix had recently changed or probably, the path was never set after I'd done a reformat (running XP btw).
On the off chance that you're in a similar position, double check the where 'My Documents' is actually referencing by right-clicking on the desktop icon, selecting properties and make sure the correct path is displayed.
Hope this helps. It must be a similar problem in Vista but no doubt MS has found a clever way to obfuscate this problem so that it's difficult to fix. |

Try running/installing under Vista compatibility mode instead of XP SP3 (just Vista, not vista SP 1/2 mode).
