The prefs.ini you should edit should be in c:\Documents and Settings\{username}\Local Settings\Application Data\CCP\EVE\settings\. There and only there. The ones you find sometimes somewhere in My Documents or in {EVEInstallationDir}\cache\ are not used by the client currently.
I'm not sure if it was this way before, but it sure is now.
And just one more thing: do not forget to back it up first
What if there is no prefs.ini -.- i am running normal xp,... an there is no file in this folder,...
have problems with resolution and widescreen option, all i get ist a black screen after login >.<

Can someone re-write the first page prefs.ini to reflect the new code used?
because most of it doesn't work... and yes, I'm using the new locations and everything. I'm using the right file... just it has no effect :(

check it well, its not C:\Documents and Settings\{username}\Application Data but C:\Documents and Settings\{username}\Local Settings\Application Data\, check the username as well. Hope hidden/system attribute on ..\Local Settings\Application Data dirs is not your current problem. If it is, change folder configuration in windows control panel so u could see these dirs, alternatively just type the path in path string in explorer.
Now, there is a chance u have all your dirs and no prefs.ini in there. If its the case it means there is something wrong with your client and it doesn't start properly. Probably that's the reason youre getting this black screen.
Anyways i'd try the following: 1. delete the CCP dir inside ..\Local Settings\Application Data; 2. run eve client once, entering with your login@pass; 3. wait until it loads the char selection screen (if its the black screen again just wait a little, note if it still plays music just to check if its running at all); 4. exit by exiting it normally or killing the process if u can't see a thing. 5. check the newly created CCP dir inside ..\Local Settings\Application Data, search for the prefs.ini. If the CCP dir is not there go to step 10; 6. the dir is there but the file is not? search any of its copy in {EveInstallDir}\cache\, I doubt it would be there if u don't have it in original place though. If not, try to get it from other machine with eve working; 7. edit it and using the desktopHeight/desktopWidth parameters define your monitor resolution; 8. now save it to C:\Documents and Settings\{username}\Local Settings\Application Data\CCP\EVE\settings\ 9. start the client again; 10. if you still have the same black screen problem or something went wrong with dirs creation client behaviour i'd really recommend reinstalling the damn client from scratch.
hope it helps. post your comments if not

Probably a dumb question, but I cannot find the IP of the tranquility server. I need this so I know where to point my tunnel to.

Hi,
Does anyone know how to get back that multisampling (antialiasing) option after Trinity upgrade? My prefs.ini shows that advancedDevice=1, but still it's missing on the menu.

Edited by: Syor Li on 06/12/2007 14:27:55 I've been running eve behind a firewall by using a port forwarder and just having EVE look at my machine. But the trinity update removed the box in the loader that allowed you to type in your own server address. Advanced networking is set to 1 still, but I can't enter anything. I can't even enter a server besides Tranquility. Is everyone having this same thing happen or does anyone know a work-around.

I have finally figured it out myself. I use putty to do my port forwarding. Source and Destination are both 87.237.38.200:26000, Local, and Auto. No socks being used here. Then I had to install "hardware" on my computer. This is virtual network adapter from Microsoft. I use XP btw. Add hardware, Choose "yes, i have already connected the hardware", bottom of the list choose Add a new hardware device, Choose Install the hardware that i manually...., network adapters, Manufacturer is Microsoft, rights side is MS Loopback adapter, finish. Open up network connections from the control panel. Right click the loopback adapter, properties. Highlight Internet protocol, click properties. Set the ip to be 87.237.38.200. Subnet i use 255.0.0.0.
With that set up and putty running, now you should be able to connect from behind a firewall, using the server name that they will not allow you to change.
Btw.. I am not sure that the game uses the prefs.ini file anymore.
Good Luck :)

Edited by: Savvikaure on 08/12/2007 19:16:35 Edited by: Savvikaure on 08/12/2007 19:15:58 So is it true? Trinity won't allow the advancedDevice=1 edit add any multisampling? I'm using Vista Ultimate 64-bit and it's not working. When will they fix this if they will at all? And since so many people are trying to edit this one feature, why doesn't CCP just keep it in the menu by default? They should trust us to be able to decide whether or not we want to have anti-aliasing. Every other game does. If my computer slows down then i'll take it off. But i have a computer that can handle Crysis, so give us a choice, please.... Whats the point of the upgraded graffics if most people are seeing jaggies anyway?

About multisampling (antialiasing):
HDR enabled automatically disables AA. If you want AA back turn the HDR off. There are some methods of avoiding these rules I suppose, so I'm still looking for them...

Good call with that, Akaine Harga! Graffics Card forced AA definitely works without the new HDR option. Though I would still like to be able to control the AA in game and still have the HDR--though you are right that there isn't much of a difference in lighting. I guess I just don't like it when things don't work out my way :) Thanks alot for the help!

so, the only way to have AA now is to use graphic casrd driver to make it use AA? I can't simply tun it on in client as i did before?

Not sure Re Seller. But I use Vista 64 and that's the only way that I can do it. I would like to control AA in game though. I want that HDR! :) Oh well...

More observations:
- forced AA seems to work only in fullscreen mode; - some ppl say they have to turn "Temporal AA" on in video card control panel to make AA work; - one of the ways to make HDR and AA work together is achieved by using nHancer (this solution is for nVidia cards only);
btw, there are two more topics here in EVE Forums where ppl fight their way through this problem: http://oldforums.eveonline.com/?a=topic&threadID=651868 http://oldforums.eveonline.com/?a=topic&threadID=647667

the "driver AA only applies to full-screen mode" part is what annoys me the most, I'll stick to the old content (voluntarily) so I'm not at all concerned about HDR+AA compatibility, but I want to be able to set AA ingame again

At the risk of sounding like a newb, I'd like to ask what settings to input into PuTTy, I've went trough a trial-and-error approache and got it to half-work, though it still doesn't connect, teling me that the port or internet connection is wrong/not on... it's better than not having key-board input (happens without Putty >.>) so I think i'm on the right track _________________________________________________ A stealth bomber behaves like a panda - Eats shoots and leaves - Fi T'Zeh |

Im also wondering how to change Server IP. Im also behind stupid firewall. I were getting myself online trough SSH tunnel. I simply forwarded localhost 26000 to 87.237.38.200:26000 in putty. But now im not able to enter 127.0.0.1 as server IP when i run eve client. .. So ... i cant play from my place since Trinity is out.
Any advice how to get that address window back or how to change IP of the server is very welcome.

hi guys, is there a tweak to increase the network timeout?
I'm experiencing some problems with my connection and I think increasing the value of the network timeout will be useful, because every time my eve client returns me the 'CONNECTION LOST' error message!

Just add "C:\Documents and Settings\%username%\Local Settings\Application Data\CCP\EVE\settings\prefs.ini" server=127.0.0.1 on the end of the file
This did the trick! That information should be stickied and/or added to the settings page somewhere for all people to find that use a proxy!

I'm using the Windows XP Media Center edition.
I did go to C:\Documents and Settings\{username}\Local Settings\Application Data\CCP\EVE\settings and I edited the Pref.ini in there.
But it doesn't do anything. For example, when I first opened it up,the line "advancedDevice" was not in there. So I added advancedDevice=1 and double checked to make sure there is no repeat. But when I started the game, it didn't work. I did not get any new graphics options in the option menu when hit the ESC button

I must be missing something, because I just started playing Trinity yesterday (after a long hiatus) and I can't get advancedDevice=1 to do anything. I remember quite clearly when I played back in the day that I had this option working, and therefore had AA and AF in the ESC menu... any ideas?

My login screen at work has saved 6 or more account login names for all my accounts. My computer at home, only saves 2 of them.
Is there a setting in prefs.ini that allows the login screen to remember a set number or unlimited number of login Ids? Not the passwords, just the ID's.
Thanks in advance.

Edited by: diesel420 on 02/04/2008 16:01:10 I have dual 22"lcds Both monitors are Samsung 226bw's are acting as one big picture.1680x1050x2 (3360x1050) Looks great and great fps. My problem is that where my 2 screens butt up my ship is split in half on each screen. Im pobably sh$t out of luck but im still going to ask. Is there a way to shift the ship to be on one monitor? Like a FOV setting? My reason I got two monitors is to have all my chat, corp, and local windows on one screen and fighting on the other. Im thinking im going to have 3 monitors so the ship will be in the middle.

I'm trying to setup automatic login by setting the username/password in the prefs.ini file. I haven't been able to get it to work, though. I wonder if someone can tell what I'm doing wrong.
First of all, I found my prefs.ini file here:
C:\Documents and Settings\My Name\Local Settings\Application Data\CCP\EVE\c_program_files_ccp_eve_tranquility\settings
This is a little different from what I've read, but I'm assuming it's just the new location for the latest version of EVE.
It seems like the right place. If I delete it, then run eve, eve re-creates it.
Anyway, here's what my file looks like:
clusterMode=LOCAL clusterName=QUATZ@QUATZ debug=0 decimal=. digit=, host=0 inputhost=localhost languageID=EN messagePeriod=200 movecapturedone=1 movesettingsdone=1 newbie=0 port=26000 advancedDevice=1 desktopHeight=800 desktopSetup=1 desktopWidth=1280 eulaagreed=1221311590 password=mypassword savepasswords=1 username=myusername
I basically added everything after the "port=26000" line.
But, when I run eve, I still have to type in my password. It seems like nothing has changed. So, I assume I'm not doing it right, somehow.
Thanks in advance for any help. |
