tl;dr version: Stalemate.
So I'm doing the local flavor of the month...scanning belts for unpiloted orcas! (Damnit..there's got to be one out there for me) and in the meantime, flipping cans, blowing stuff up and getting blown up (Note to self, you suck at PVP when at more than 1:1 up against real opponents..just stop it..)
So, on scans shows a hulk, mining into a can. Well, that looks lol worthy. Hop to the belt and start to slow-boat towards it.
Take a look at the hulk...hey, there's only one strip miner on there. There's not even a full strip cycle in the can as I get closer...spidey sense is tingling, screaming *TRAP*. But, this is the combat iteron of doom!
But, the guy's in a nubcorp, for over two years? Okay, this should be truly lulz worthy. I get myself up, and yank from the can. Tasty veldspar!
And here comes the T2 drones! Rainbow variety, mix of lights and mediums. And...no smartbombs...neuts... Okay, that's not going to be fun. And a warp scrambler..definitely not fun. Or is it?
Shield kind of comfortably sits at 80% or so... The sensor suite actually manages to lock him up...and I get a couple cycles of scram and web in of my own and spit fury at him with a blaster. *poof* cap disappears (well, not insta poof, industrials have a metric butt-load of cap) Guns shut down, web shuts down, scram shuts down. And we just sit there. Looking at each other...
Other Guy> .... Me> Heh. Other Guy> I'm going to stop recording, my HD's not that big.
Seems I interrupted someone's attempt to recreate the combat hulk-o-doom with the Iteron of Doom. (No vid for mine)
Eventually, he decides that he's not gonna break me, and goes to warp off home. We have a nice chat in local. :) Turns out the guy has like...700 cap charges on board. (I was praying for maybe a couple reloads :)
Hopefully I don't end up on the cutting room floor. --

Why yes, as per publicly available IEEE Document ID #223.646.377 mining into an insecure container is in contradiction to good mining standards and practices. Hence is subject to demonstration of the reasons why it is a bad idea.
Sometimes of course, the demonstration does not go as planned, but c'est la vie. --

Biggest problem with AC's is the lack of damage potential. And what good is a capless gun if my scram's been neuted into turning off :) I've toyed with using an AC, but you occasionally run into something that just *needs* a blaster to take down.
I've considered a lazor, but that's not even maybe cap stable. (As it is, the only reason I'm somewhat cap stable is there's this pesky reload time with the blaster)
And I'd have to give up the neut (which usually comes as a complete surprise to most guys in a friage who think they can just slam their afterburner on and get away)
Now, if they'd just un-nerf my beloved web...(-60% just doesn't cut it, and frankly yanking anything else out of the mids would just ruin the setup) --

To be honest Zedric, I think outside of faction / deadspace you have the optimal setup for the thing. Believe it or not I think there might be some things an Iteron V is just not designed to kill.
I wants one.

Its relatively cheap now-a-days. Expensive part is the purger rigs. Hard part is spending the time as a Gallente pilot to max out your shield skills to make the most of the tank on there. Because while its tough, any competent pilot in a cruiser can take it out. (I'm not afraid of an assault frigate, but those new freakin stealth bombers scare the bejesus out of me) Its not the DPS..its the volley damage that's bad news... Passive tanks don't deal very well with really big volleys that while on paper should not be able to break the tank, in reality all you need is a nudge over that nice, sweet spot where your recharge maxes out in order to make it a bad...bad...bad day.

hence my current plan to get thermodynamics despite about 1m sp in damage dealing across the various types.
shield rigs arent so expensive thankfully, more than damage rigs but they are far more useful unless you are going for a specific setup.
damage rigged iteron? i guess it NEEDS the shield rigs though?

That actually depends on your target... The purgers more than double your tank in the general case. A cheap set of resistance rigs (two EM, one thermal) actually claws quite a bit of that back. But what I've found is that even hitting your worst hole (EM) with the purgers is no worse than if you covered the hole with the resistance rigs. On paper the tanks are roughly equivalent...in reality, go for the purgers.
Now, you can go cheap-o on the tank..using T1 mods and no rigs. You end up with a rather decent tank for an industrial, and still a decent buffer. So if you can just blast through your target before your buffer evaporates, you're good to go. Any single frigate unless its fit for absolute maximum damage will have issues with a t1 fit passive iteron, and should be a good fight. Fit with T2 gear a passive iteron is a match for any T1 frig. (Well, it will survive the encounter...)
You put the purgers on there, and there's not a single frigate in the game (with the exception of a stealth bomber now a days) that I've found that can break it.
Mind you, you have trouble killing even a frigate now a days because of the web nerf. An iteron is abysmally slow...Way..abysmally..slow. So even with a T2 60% web on there..most frigs can claw their way out of range if they get the clue soon enough (For which, I've started to carry some shadow iron and lead that I had lying around). But as often as not, I've had a frigate slip through my fingers due to going outside 13km, or me burning out my scrambler with overheating to try and hold it down just that few seconds more.
The web nerf more or less made the comedy itty of doom even more of a joke. I still love it though, but once this one dies I think I will retire the brand.
I've been playing with an armor tanked covetor again lately, but the buffer doesn't last long enough and frankly, two low slots... (Doesn't mean you can't fit a 400mm plate on there, but that's about all you're putting on). And Frankly, I don't want to PVP in a hulk..While it works, its too obvious :) --
