I have always wondered on this game, what is the best to mine? I am a noob, so I am in high security level sectors, and am making my living off Scordite and Veldspar. So I ask you, what is the most profitable to mine? Because you can sell the Scordite for more ISK, but you get less of it per mining run. And you get more Veldspar per run, but it sells for less Please help a noob. Thanks

best advise to you would be to learn the math. Learn LOTS of math. It drives this game. Aside from that, currently, Veldspar is more valuable than most ores in the game. The only things worth more are deep 0.0 rocks.

Ranking with current market prices for the refined minerals (sorted from best to worst, in brackets the location where you can find the ore, the numbers in front of the ore name indicate the profit relation when using the same equipment, normalized to Veldspar with 100%):
361 % - Mercoxit (0.0) 327 % - Arkonor (0.0) 325 % - Bistot (0.0) 245 % - Crokite (0.0) 134 % - Gneiss (0.0) 123 % - Dark Ochre (0.0) 113 % - Spudomain (0.0) 100 % - Veldspar (High-Sec) 82 % - Scordite (High-Sec) 76 % - Kernite (High-Sec) 70 % - Plagioclase (High-Sec) 68 % - Hedbergite (Low-Sec) 64 % - Pyroxeres (High-Sec) 53 % - Hemorphite (Low-Sec) 52 % - Omber (High-Sec) 42 % - Jaspet (Low-Sec)

Mine everything in belts and sit on the ores that aren't as profitable at the moment and sell the ones that are :P Gotta love HS having an infinite storage capacity :P

Yep I do most of my forum posting on night shift now, since work has issues with gaming during my shift :P

Tell them I said, you can play. They should see the error in the ways.
-- Oh...on topic: Depends on how you are dealing with the ore..and if you are solo or in a corp op.
In a Corp OP I would say "Cal5 mind refining this for me" and then letting his uber-leet-skillz handle the refining. Since mine suck. But if I were solo I would debate the value of the refined vs the unprocessed and do a small 10sec calc in my head whether it was best to stay and mine the belt out or..just mine some of the roids and move on.

A nice guy called Grismar made this web page to help you figure out what's most efficient to mine:

That depends on current mineral market value.
Originally by: Adziy you can sell the Scordite for more ISK, but you get less of it per mining run. And you get more Veldspar per run, but it sells for less
mining works by cubic meters yield per mining cycle. veldspar is less dense (see attribues on veldspar and scordite) than scordite, that's why you get more of it.
so just go to the site below, enter current mineral values (jita buy price) and hit "calc" and look at "isk/m3" which is best.

Edit: Just to add this: Clansworth is right, most important thing is to learn the calculations because the list above is not static of course and can change over time. Just as an example: Around 1 or 2 years ago Kernite and Plagioclase was on top of the high-sec ores (because of high Mexallon prices). Around 3 or 4 years ago Omber was on top (because of high Isogen prices) and Veldspar on the bottom of the complete list. So it's a good thing to check the ranking from time to time.
Now, compare this with the amount of ores in single belt...

When using Grismar's ore calculator (above) just remember to plug in the current market value of the ores!
Forget about scordite, you're wasting your time. Just mine veldspar in all its flavours. Make friends with a mission runner, and get him to bookmark deadspaces that have lots of veldspar in them.

i mine veld and scord, because, well, its only 20% difference between them, and yes, mining in missions is a good idea. just not when you're such a solo player, you dont play with anyone else, :P

That's 12 minutes every hour you could have been scouting out more veldspar.

Of course, you could run level 1 missions yourself and farming Break Their Will :)

I dont know about per hour but you can see how much you would make per cargo load at http://www.evegeek.com/orecalc.php
Arkanor is the best, veldspar is the best in high sec
