I'm looking into how I would be able to track drones in a cruiser with 450mm AC Is.
Let's say I'm going in a direction (but negate my speed in the calculation of transversal) and the enemy cruiser (15km away) retracts its drones (Valkyrie IIs).
It is positioned in such a direction that the drones are going in a direction perpendicular to mine, so their speed = their transversal relative to me.
When the drones are 13km away, I shoot them (let's say my optimal is 13km, just for this example, as I'm focusing on tracking). They're moving at 2.5KM/sec (http://wiki.eveonline.com/wiki/Valkyrie_II) with their MWD. I track 0.1056 rad/sec (http://wiki.eveonline.com/wiki/425mm_AutoCannon_I) with my guns. The tracking formula gives me a hit chance of less than 1/10^(-6)! That's absolutely ridiculous. It means that the tracking of medium autocannons is insufficient to hit medium drones moving perpendicularly at 13km away, which is pretty damn far.
However, in this calculation I used 50m as the drone sig radius. Should I apply the 500% MWD sig radius penalty to it? This would give me a much more reasonable 65% chance to hit.
For those wondering whether I'm asking, it's not really important, I'm interested just in the abstract, but anyway here goes: Say I'm in a Stabber, orbiting a Vexor or Thorax at 15km. It launches its drones, so I let them get close, then pulse my MWD once to kite them. They have no transversal for a while so I can get one of them down to half armor (ACs have ****ty alpha...). The enemy sees this, and retracts them. I want to be able to shoot them while they're going back towards him.

I didnt read the formulaes you looked, but for this one, yes, their sig radius while MWDing is what counts, IF you activate your guns AFTER they have engaged MWD.
Check tracking guide on eve-o, it's incredibly useful in understanding how it works, and you can even input data and check results

OK. I sincerely hope you're right because otherwise retracting drones are pretty much untouchable.
