Perkone was treated to a rare welcoming event last weekend.
Some time Saturday afternoon, perk1 chat was its normal degenerative self, when someone previously unseen started asking for help replacing a drake. He claimed he had left EVE 2 months ago for WOW, but had grown bored of it and had returned to EVE.
He had a drake docked in low sec, apparently in a station that was being camped, and soon after undocking lost his drake to ebil piewits. After a proper "Welcome back to EVE!" things quieted down again.
A few minutes later the real fun began...
Seems our resident scammer started a private convo with him, found out how much isk he had, and set up a freeform to trade a drake for... get this... 80 million isk. This was somehow accepted by our returning WOW player. Of course the contract was canceled as soon as the isk was transferred. So within 10 minutes of loggign on, he lost his ship and all his isk. Awesome.
Said scammer then brought it up in local, and the returner alternately raged and begged for about an hour to the lolz of all. Much popcorn was had. Within that time, it came out that this guy also had a raven, and that he was willing to trade it with someone who had a drake. Unfortunately, this guy was too wary to accept any more contracts, even though we tried setting up legitimate item exchanges to trade a drake for his raven.
After thinking it out some, I'm pretty sure this guy never played EVE in his life. He may have easily lost his drake, but there is no way he would have given someone 80M if he ever had a drake before. Nor would he have been willing to trade a raven for another drake. Most likely he simply bought the character and assets. This being the case, he is now starting out better than most newbs. He may not have any isk, but he has skills and, maybe even more importantly, he KNOWS not to simply trust anyone in this game.
In any case, he got the best Welcome to EVE! I have ever seen.

I got the "Welcome to EVE" welcome when I lost my Retriever to a can flipper...and again to evil pirates in Nalvula (once to a gatecamp and another to a station camp).
EVE will never cease to top off the evils it can commit, but where's the fun when it can't keep beating you upside the head with increasingly harder objects?

How things have changed... The first day of my playing Eve someone was quitting. He said in noob corp chat, "Who wants 410mil". I was the first to say "me" and was happily awarded 410mil and a rupture.

It must've been very bad luck because:
1) Your corp was non-existent a few days ago, so the corp that wardecced your corp must've done it right off the bat with no planning or research, which brings me to 2.
2) You guys were right out of trial, what do you really have to lose to a wardec that would even refund the wardeccers for the wardec fee? Honestly.

My first 'Welcome to EVE!" was by a pirate in low sec. With me on autopilot. My first day. Back then I had no idea what low-sec was. I was promptly podded.

I can eve mail parts to you.
Eve mailing the whole thing seems not to work, as I tried doing that to other perk1 m8s who missed out. I can do parts, but the whole hour of *popcorn is a little much.
