Don't know if this is the right place to post this but here goes. #1)Training up for an Obelisk Freighter, (at my CEO's request for corp), and I am wondering how safe it is to start my own high sec hauling service? Since the ship will belong to me, I may as well utilize it when not doing corp stuff. Eventually on to Jump Freighter which I KNOW is risky but by then I will have some friends to go along as escorts. #2)Is Obelisk hauling a lucrative business? Thanks

It's relatively safe assuming a few things:
a) You don't AFK with very expensive cargo. b) You don't haul very expensive cargo on a fixed schedule. c) You don't autopilot with very expensive cargo. _______________ <Q> QUANT Hegemony QUANT is rebuilding, EVE-Mail me for recruitment info. Item Database |

As long as you're not war dec'd, you should be fine. Keep your character in an NPC corp and I don't think you'll have any problems.

Thanks for the replies.
The pilot/character is in a player corp.

How does being in an NPC corp help anything? Other than perhaps not subject to wardec?

You just answered your own question. It's not subject to being wardecced. ______________________________________________________ Isn't it enough to know that I ruined a pony making a gift for you? |

not AFK piloting is the big one.... when you come to gate, look around and if you see some freight containers floating around notice how they are usually within the 15 km of the gate....

Are there really people who would try/succeed to take down a Freighter in Empire space? :|

Well yeah, I gathered that :P But if youre in an NPC corp then surely youre pretty safe? Has anyone ever heard of a freighter getting taken down right under Concorde's nose?
Not sure how long it would take to kill a freighter :/

I do appreciate everyone's comments/feedback. I feel a bit better about it now especially knowing that I rarely set autopilot for any ship other than maybe a shuttle. I most definitely would not do that in a Freighter :)
I suppose (hope) freight hauling is big business (I'm doing it initially for my corp). Is there a lot of isk to be made with this big ugly slow ship? A freakin' Sloth :) .

Making isk of course possible idk if it is big or not for your criteria (sp?) There are 2 ways to make isk with freighter 1-Trading buy low haul and sell high 2-Hauling contracts .You can haul for other ppl for a fee .You can find public hauling contracts (but there are scamming contracts to 0.0 low sec ) .You have to be carefull if you go to public hauling and check every starting and finishing destination before accepting. A lot of the times public contracts dont have enough isk reward to bother hauling btw ,you need to move multiple cargo If you want to start to go public hauling start your advertisement at sell forum with your price . You can look to public contracts to get an idea without obelisk of course

seen the floating freight containers marking the death of an afk pilot... wondering how many ships it takes to gank the freighter

If a freighter has cargo that would make a suicide gank worthwhile then it could happen. It doesn't cost that much to get a suicide battleship when you factor in the insurance, so if there is a freighter carrying enough cargo / isk to make it worthwhile then I would be very tempted to split the loads to two or three trips, but we are talking about massive ammounts of isk to make it worthwhile.
My main rule is, if I cant afford to lose it then I will make multiple trips, and always be active and not using autopilot.
