This is my first try to pvp, so i chose to FW with the caldari militia.
I'll write my impression-conclutions (of 4 days in the war effort, plz comment them and provide possible ways to improve.
1. Given that my character was a dominix lvl4 mission runner, i chose to pvp with gallente cruisers t1 fitthings(as I have slightly better skills in drones and gallente cruisers). So i went for a vexor.
2. I found out that having a buffer tank is a bit better than having an active tank, simply because most battles lasted not more than 50-60 secs. But a small armor rep is nice to rep up any damage u take from the accessional battleship spawn in the asteroid fields.
3. At most of the engagements we were warping between asteroid fields-gates trying to find the other side in a disadvantage
4. There is always a bigger fish than u.
5. No battle is the same as the previous. In 1 engagement I was 1vs1 with a cruiser, at the 2nd i was running away from pirates, the 3rd was a huge battle between battleships, at the 4th I was smashed to the ground in seconds.
6. Even though I lost around 15-20 cruisers, my total losses after insurance were totaly worth the experience gained. (i lost around 2-3millions per ship). A sum gained easily in 1-2 days of mission running.
7. My next skill projects are a 10MN mwd (to easily get in range or escape) and a cloaking device (cause quite often i was running away trying to avoid 5 year old chars with 100+mil fittings)
8. Given my lack of battle experience and skill points i found that my best chance to scratch the oposition was with this setup: high slots=3x drone link augmentors medium slots= 10MNafterburner, sensor booster+range script, target painter lows= it changed a lot, from active to passive tank
The idea of this setup is to suprise the enemy and kill him before he warps out. My 3 wardens II can do instanlty 163dps at 72km+30kmfall off. Almost noone was expecting a cruiser to do dmg at that range and I was always the first one to press the trigger. I almost killed 4 rifters and a guardian. If I had a bit more dps i could've done it.
9. I am looking for a group of 3-4 vexors in similar sentry-sniper setups. I trully believe we could accomplise something there (given that I tried the setup on my self).
Thx for reading so far. Plz provide any advice on the kind of pvp that happens at the cold space of Tama.

Congrats, you have thrown yourself into the sea and have learned to swim. You've adapted well and you've already picked up on the main area for improvement (MWD). Keep at it and you'll do great.

You have the right approach, start with cheap ships to get the hang of it, and go on from there.
I would recommend trying to find a FW corporation so you can give your ideas a try, the random militia fleets are usually too mixed to give very specific tactics a chance to work. Leaving Tama might also improve your experience, it does put you in the middle of it all, but often the fights and the gatecamps are very 'ganky'.

No need to cloak your vexor, once your locked u cant cloak anyway.
put on blasters, not long range, MWD on up and say hello!
Enjoy Tama daily, The locals are here eat you!

I would give you some general hints but you've got the best idea already
Quote: 6. Even though I lost around 15-20 cruisers, my total losses after insurance were totaly worth the experience gained. (i lost around 2-3millions per ship). A sum gained easily in 1-2 days of mission running.
So I'll look out for your sniping vex on the battlefield
Specific hints wise, look at the penalty on the cloaking device. Also as you will discover you lose control of drones when you cloak.
The more cookie cutter vexor fits tend to use blasters of one size or another and attack at closer range.
Don't be too intimidated by SP alone. There's only so many skills that can apply to any single module. Also player skill counts for a lot.

Thx for the positive replies guys.
Based on your comments I'll definitly be continueing my pvp efforts. It seems that a certain amount of time is required and casualties are expected to be high until my first face-to-face kill.
I got 3 point regarding my warden-vexor: 1. I want the cloaking device to simply spy on the enemy without the warry of being tracked down. Observe and learn, see the composition of the enemy, are there any lone frigs orbiting the station, does he look afk or will it be a fair fight. That sort of thing. Also I have been hunted down tooo many times between the asteroid fields, and it seems that if i could cloak as soon as i arrived i got a fair chance to make them think i have allready warped away.
2. I'll definetly try the blaster close range popular fits.
3. I got my budget even from the recent loses, so i guess I'll meet you there

I really like your attitude. Keep it cheap, don't be afraid to try out an idea no matter how zany it might seem, and above all have a good time!
My little snippet of advice would be to venture a little further out from Tama. Heres a great Map of the FW area:
http://evemaps.dotlan.net/map/Caldari_VS_Gallente
If you venture a little bit off the Tama-OMS pipe you're more likely to find lone targets, in plexes for example.
If only other mission runners had your attitude Keep it up!

How about
[Thorax, Long Range] Reactor Control Unit II Magnetic Field Stabilizer II Magnetic Field Stabilizer II Magnetic Field Stabilizer II Tracking Enhancer II
10MN MicroWarpdrive I Tracking Computer II, Optimal Range Sensor Booster II
200mm Railgun II, Spike M 200mm Railgun II, Spike M 200mm Railgun II, Spike M 200mm Railgun II, Spike M 200mm Railgun II, Spike M
[empty rig slot] [empty rig slot] [empty rig slot]
Hornet EC-300 x5 Warrior II x5
Does around 170dps, is instant just like your sentries - got a better tracking then your sentries, everyone expects a blasterboat, and you can mwd away to keep your range while with sentrie drones youd leave those behind.
And
[Vexor, Gank] Magnetic Field Stabilizer II Pseudoelectron Containment Field I Magnetic Field Stabilizer II Magnetic Field Stabilizer II
10MN MicroWarpdrive I Warp Disruptor II Stasis Webifier II
Heavy Ion Blaster II, Caldari Navy Antimatter Charge M Heavy Ion Blaster II, Caldari Navy Antimatter Charge M Medium EMP Smartbomb I /offline Heavy Neutron Blaster II, Caldari Navy Antimatter Charge M Heavy Neutron Blaster II, Caldari Navy Antimatter Charge M
[empty rig slot] [empty rig slot] [empty rig slot]

Does 630 dps, with 9k ehp. -

Check the Faction sticky (I'm posting from my phone or I'd link it directly), it has a list of active corps that are involved in Faction Warfare. I'd start there. -------------------------------------------- This new learning amazes me, Sir Bedevere. Explain again how sheep's bladders may be employed to prevent earthquakes. |

Hell yeah, I got my first taste of blood yesterday. Here is the story 1st kill: I had a close range vexor setup. Medium blasters+mwd+web+scrambler+passive tank (and a small armor repair to avoid having to dock after each rat fight). My average dps (with drones) was around 230 at close range. So i was happy ratting the asteroid fields of tama, as usual. And i notice a kestrel warping at 100km. For a sec i thought he was a scout so i aligned ready to warp away. He ignored me and left to oneother field. I followed and landed 15km away from him. I set an orbit at 500m and quickly closed range with my mwd. I targeted him but did not fire first (since he was a frigate I said he will fight me only if he wants). Luckyly he pulled safties off first and we both activated web+scramblers. My close range dps was much superior to his tank and about 40secs later i was looting his wreck.
2nd kill: After about 15 mins of rating in tama i had a full cargo of t1 junk modules, so set I destination to jita to resupply my ship. In nourv gate at tama, i detected an inteceptor+a t3 cruiser (both wt). SO i say ok boys, you'll get want you came here for. 3 mins later i was back waiting at the other side of the gate. I knew i was no much for them so i waited a bit. Then i see 1 battlecruiser-ferox class entering tama. I say "they will surely tackle him". I wait about 30secs and i enter tama myself. There they were the t3 cruiser engaging the ferox and the interceptor safly orbiting at around 20km. I quickly release my t1 warriors and mwd to the interceptor. He could not keep distance to both of us so I soon had him webbed+scrambled at 700m. It was such a delight wacthing a ship costing around 10 times my t1 fitted vexor bleeding to 0 structure. OF course his gang come and blew my ass to the sky, but i took him with me.!!
So here it is guys. My efforts finally paid off. I was post again if get lucky.

I was the said ceptor pilot. Congrats m8. Just 1 little thing, I was scram and web fitted so was orbiting @ 500m, was never expecting to live for long. But its good to see someone with guts, most the caldari sit in Nourv until they have 40 friends.

pirates shoot gallente as well, we just rather shoot your blobs together rather than hide in the station. But this bloke shows what you can do! In fact OP, if your looking for a corp, give us a shout your exactly the people we like in WOLFY. I'll kill you, I'll die but you'll die too!

Hey EVIL SYNNs, nice seeing you again.
Thanks a lot for your invite, I trully believe you could provide lots of battle experience. I don't mind having -10 sec status and be flashy red. (after all it's only a matter of time, since it's a very slippery road i'm going). I only got 1 thought keeping me back: Is there a way I can provide for my own ships+isk (for t1 fittings, maybe from killing low sec rats???). Right now i do a couple of missions/10 ships lost. Hmhmh i don't know.
But hell anyway, I'll meet you in the battle field, winner takes all, as always.

I joined up with the Caldari Militia a little over a week ago and have been having a blast.
I've been flying tackle merlins and Blackbirds in a support role while I get the feel of militia style combat. I've been on a few runs in a logistics role, but we haven't found a big enough fight to have it come into play.
Your point about the buffer tank is a good one. In the past as a mission runner, it was all about the passive tank of my Drake, but you are right, the combat is usually all over in a minute or so.
I'll be happy to fit out a Vexor and roll with you. I've got decent Astrometics, so we might be able to catch some mission runners. I've also got a Blackbird that can jam from quite a distance that might help. Drop me a note ingame and we'll fleet up.

In Tama you will find everything from t1 frigs to T3 cruisers and beyond, small intie gangs, remote Rep BS gangs, capital hot drops and everything in between - it's f***ing awesome!
