oh and michael .... .
if it wasnt for dev blue bars on your post it would have pretty much not been replied to. the pretty blue bars have a tendency to get more people to read your post and even offer a reply. because they KNOW that DEVS are watching.
also your OP was crap. lets be honest if you wanted a better response in the first place your op should have included more information there are loads of mission NPC battleships are are not mutually exclusive to :
[Asteroid] [NPC PIRATE] [Mission Deadspace] [Storyline] [COSMOS] [Deadspace] [Faction] [Mission Generic]
etc etc
when you right click the battleship or indeed ANY npc it will give you its description theese different flavor battleships are used all around new eden. it may be that one of the specific npc types are bugged or it may be that you had the wrond npc type in your mission. apochribba had a new [mission spawn container] which turned up and had to be added to your overview and CCP OFTEN change the setting in a bid to improve the system both internally and externally. when you investigate you need to be very very specific.

Wow, where to start - the sheer idiocy is off the charts.
[Asteroid] Irrelevant. [NPC PIRATE] Relevant. [Mission Deadspace] Relevant. [Storyline] Irrelevant. [COSMOS] Irrelevant. [Deadspace] Irrelevant. [Faction] Irrelevant. [Mission Generic] Irrelevant.
But you'd understand that much from the OP alone.
I've received no security status increases from Angel Cartel, Sansha's Nation, Serpentis or Mercenary NPCs. You'd know that if you'd read just about any (on-topic) post in the thread other than your hero Dropbear's. Are you suggesting four NPC types may be bugged? This isn't PotBS, CCP has never (to my knowledge) screwed up anything THAT dramatically, and if they had I imagine I wouldn't be the only one to notice - especially with how seldom I actually bother killing NPCs.
Overview settings (a client feature, stored locally) have nothing to do with whether or not the server awards me a sec status increase for blowing up an NPC. That goes double for whether or not my overview is configured to display a specific type of cargo container. Irrelevant.
And you have the nerve to talk about anybody's post being "crap."
I notice in your sig you have two GTC affiliate sale links; need ISK help replacing those titans?

Overview no, but your cache can be the culprit. Sometime it get "struck" and don't update your character/corp changing informations, like the standings.
Try looking your character security standing with one of your alts and check if he display a different standing from what you see when checking the character in game.
Another possible factor is if the security gains are so low that they are not displayed (so under 0.001 or something similar). Try training some level of fast talking to get larger standing gains.

I seem to remember a dev post about changes to sec gain and missions, think it was stopped ages ago?
Possible reason was pirates grinding mission to repair standing think you still get it from belt rats and normal kills just not missions, couldn't find the piece I was looking for, but feel sure someone will correct me or link the info.

Originally by: CCP Dropbear I can only guess it has something to do with the fact that killing those NPCs is also getting you standings from the faction you're working for. You don't get that from belt hunting. So that would be the divide; sec gain from hunting "world" NPCs, standings gain from hunting "mission" NPCs.
You also don't get the numbers of Battleships you can in IVs from belt ratting, unless you're out in at least lowsec space (probably nullsec?) where its typically much harder to salvage, relative to IVs in Empire. Level IV missions offer quite a bit already, so taking sec gain from them and leaving it in areas where there is far more room for player competition makes sense, to me at least.
This is not how it has worked in the past. You do not gain standings with one faction by killing another faction's ships. You can only lose faction standing by killing NPCs (of any kind) from another faction. You only gain standing from completing the missions.
In the past, killing any kind of pirate NPC, belt or mission, raised sec status. This character has a 5.1 Sec status from killing mission rats.
------------ Improvize. Adapt. Overcome.
Offering Pos deploying standings in Gallente and Minmatar high sec. 150m. Current standings: 9.95 Gallente, 9.69 Minmatar - 8 corps at above 8.0 (for JCs). |

Nope. Says -2.5 from both of my alts, as well as my corpmates. (That's -2.49 rounded off, of course). I hadn't thought of the cache idea, wish that would've been it...

I said they are NPC battleships. If they were giving any sec status gain at all, it would definitely be enough to count. I have Fast Talk at level 3, by the by...
EDIT:
Now, I was talking to a less-piratical friend who has a positive 2.4 sec status and has been grinding highsec missions for Fed Navy standings. He never really did missions before, and wants to get to L4 as soon as possible. HE's receiving sec status gains from killing mission rats in L2 missions in highsec (he also received them from his Level 1 missions and I'm sure he'll continue to receive them).
So, then, it SEEMS like CCP has made it so that the only way you can gain security status from MISSION pirate NPCs is to already have positive sec status? Looking forward to Dropbear's return on Monday after he has a chance to look into this; hopefully this can be confirmed or denied as an intentional feature so I can know for sure whether to bug report or not (I'm really, really reluctant to do that, for the reasons already explained here ).

May I ask how recently? I also got these sec status gains in the past, but that was pre-Apocrypha... in fact, pre-Quantum Rise. I've only been experiencing this 'problem' over the last two weeks. Have you seen sec boosts from Mission NPCs within, say, the last month or so (loose time frame here as I'm not sure when -- or even IF -- something has changed here)?

I know that. Your post does not answer the question asked in the OP, is off-topic and irrelevant.
Originally by: Jaine Serpati Is this for any system in game or just certain systems while in a mission?
I did 3 L4 missions in Gulfonodi (0.5 sec, Molden Heath) before noticing that I got rat bounties but no sec status, then moved to an L4 agent in lowsec (Hedaleolfarber, Molden Heath) and did one L4 mission, then waited 20 minutes. Again, I got the rat bounties but no sec status.
So again, why is it that killing NPC battleship rats in Level 4 missions does not contribute toward raising security status?
EDIT:
Originally by: Akiba Penrose It depends on what type of battleship it was. You'll only gain security from killing pirate faction BS (those factions that spawn in belts) Other factions dont give a security gain.
ffs people, when you're replying assume that I've been playing for a year and a half and am not a complete noob. I KNOW that Empire Faction ships and rogue drones don't provide sec status gains. The last time I ran missions was WELL over six months ago. I PvP. I lived in lowsec and roamed through lowsec and 0.0. I decided I MIGHT want to try this whole FW thing and wanted to raise my last bit of sec status without ninja ratting 0.0.
Six months ago, NPC PIRATE BATTLESHIPS in LEVEL FOUR MISSIONS provided SECURITY STATUS GAINS. NOW they DO NOT. Hopefully the picture is now painted more clearly for any subsequent responses. WHEN and WHY was this CHANGED? No more useless posts, please.
Posting to say that I am getting sec increases from killing mission battleships.
anyways, you could post what you are killing. as I have found some missions wont give increases and some will.

I don't recall specific mission names right off hand, but the largest bountied rat I killed during my attempt to raise sec via missions was a Gist Saint. Assorted other battleships, but none with a bounty higher than 600k (that I can remember).

Mine was simply an argument about enlightened self interest, not goodness of heart.
My post originally was on page 2, now it is at 2/3 of page one. That is the quantity of useless nerdrage posts that was removed. Less nerdrage in the thread more useful informations for you.
So, useful informations:
1) I have checked one of my characters that has negative sec standing (-0.92 currently). Last gains (1 example for each corporation): +0.0125% for killing Guristas; 0.0525% Blood raiders, 0.005% True Power and 0.005% Sansha. All in the alst month. Seeing the low level of missions he can run in empire they were probably cruiser/BC sized at most.
2) positive security standing character: plenty of +0.055% against Sansha, Guristas and Blood Raiders (again cruiser/BC);
3)another positive sec standing character, best gain 0.175 against Angel Cartel.
Currently only the third character is consistently running level 4 missions.
So your problem (unless being lower than -2.00 cut your for mission sec standing gains) seem to be a bug affecting your character.
I recall people saying in the General Discussion forum that they had periods when even ratting did not get them security standing. For some of them it seemed to last about 1 month.
So I would suggest a petition and possibly a bug report with a logserver registration of a mission against some pirate that did not gave you sec standing gains.
Note that mercenaries never give sec standing gains.

I'm pleased to report that I just did two missions (L4 in highsec), Intercept the Saboteurs (Serpentis) and Angel Extravaganza and have (finally!) received sec status gains. I'm hoping that this problem is over now and I'll continue to gain sec status from this carebearing, but still looking forward to Dropbear's return to the office on Monday. Er, I thought the mechanics of security status were well know, I haven't seen anyone post about it in here.
My understanding was as follows: rats have a certain amount of security status "gain" associated with them, but this is only awarded to you if your security status is currently below a certain threshold. Furthermore it's only a gain from the highest ranked ship in the last 15 minutes, rather than from each one.
This means you do (or should) get sec status increase from killing mission battleships but only up to a certain point. To progress further you need to go out into 0.0 and kill NPCs there or perhaps read the Wiki.
