It was sarcasm ;)
What I do think is that CCP is thinking about, or doing, something about it right now.
Why?
Not because of the petitions, but of the players "poluting" the forums. It's like a protest. If you keep doing it through the formal ways, it will get there, VERY and VERY slowly.
People need to riot to get the message through to the top layer. So CCP should not condemn the rioters. Those are the guys puting their heads out of the cornfield, and expressing what most of the eve population is thinking. ----------------- Destiny is not a matter of chance. It is a matter of choice. It's not a thing to be waited for - it is a thing to be achieved. |

Edited by: Kingnuts on 06/05/2009 09:01:32 Well at least we can find most of the major players in jita and reduce block lists. Just block the major names on the list. Good work Chribba, my hat goes out to you.
CCP could implement a 5 minute rule for linking contracts in local? But unfortunately, like some one said earlier, would increase basic chat with 'look at my bio' crap.
Or you could have concord blow up one random person every day in jita. Yes, even in station. see a little explosion blow out of the side of the station.
To use local chat in jita, you must be space.

I love how, despite undeniable proof of bots, CCP refuse to do anything about them. I Guess they care more about the macroers subscriptions than they do the real players.

What makes me sad is that a comment was cleared by Mitnal for being inappropriate.
This proves that CCP *have* read the thread and *have* seen Chribba's evidence but are willingly refusing to comment.
Whilst I don't expect a post full of answers from the devs, it would be nice (and basic courtesy) to see a response saying that they are aware that this is a problem and that it will be dealt with at some stage.

well tbh, i still *HOPE* (getting slimmer, but still) that something BIG might happen suddenly.
I know that CCP usually takes their time, but then sometimes there comes something awesome good out of it. (hmm, now i cant remember any event... maybe the "recent" macro stuff going down a while ago... but slowly coming up again. Maybe that kenzoku thing that got reversed etc.)
*MAYBE* just MAYBE they are investigating, verifying, collecting more than just the few from Chribba.
and then BAM, couple weeks later (we KNOW ccp is slow... right? ;) ) Jita is down by -117 Local and its awfully quit in there (and also in other "bigger" Hubs), that makes you wonder whats happened?
Then you notice the Botters are gone.
who knows. I have a Dream ^^
And they better do SOMETHING sometime, or my standings towards CCP drops a couple points :-/

Sadly it doesn't prove bot usage, and if CCP hasn't figured out a way by now to get rid of those chat bots, I doubt they'll do it now. Anyway, Jita will be spammed with or without bots, as long as the contract system remains as vague as it is. Needs more fail-safes, CCP! You made the tutorial more newbie friendly, now work on the contracts system please.

i get confused :(
most people seem to mind that there are bots which spam local chat. yet few seem to care about the ones running missions 23/7, mining, trading and so on...which are the ones destroying the economy...

No need to be confused. It's as simple as 1,2,3
Use of a Macro or Bot of any kind is not allowed. Use of any Macro or Bot should result in a Permaban. End of Story
Now CCP just needs to follow thier own rules !

The proper solution to this type of problem has always been moderation of public chat places. It's tried and tested method that has been proven to work in all areas of internet communication
What CCP would need to do is assign moderator roles volunteers/GMs for several key public channels. There's less than 10 such channels that, with proper moderation, would vastly decrease the amount of ugliness in the game.
I don't see why we'd even need to argue about this, anyone who is familiar with internet should come to same logical conclusion.

CCP tends not to respond to "hot" topics. If they do anything about it at all, they will work on it silently.

Between this thread, and the numerous threads in market discussion, it's clear that CCP's stance on botters is "as long as we don't talk about it, it won't be a problem".
CCP already has a reputation for passively allowing massive exploits. Why on earth are they letting this latest issue (botters) be so poorly handled?

well you cant blame them for not responding. blue bars are official, so a GM cant respond in a hot topic. if anything, they can come to a conclusion, and then make an official announcement.
what makes me sad is that this just shows that this is not our game (even though they tell us that every fanfest), and that we have no decisions when it comes to it. which is obvious, we make no decisions, we can whine as much as we want, nothing is up to us. i just don't know where did we get the idea that we can influence the development in any way?
i guess CSM is a good idea, maybe one of them will mention bots...
i think that the problem with bots is that you cant be sure if someone is a bot or not. if you want to be sure, you need an application that will check that (like warden, or punkbuster), but such an application would cost resources to develop.
so i guess, in that perspective, CCP is doing everything they can. they are strictly following the rule that we rather let a guilty man walk, then condemn an innocent man.
at lest we will get ambulation sooner :)

I don't buy that. If someone is spamming every couple of minutes 23/7 it means one of three things.
1) They're botting. (Against the EULA)
2) They're account sharing. (Against the EULA)
3) They're depriving themselves of sleep and spending all of their day pasting scam macros into a chat box. (Not against the EULA but obviously hazardous to their physical wellbeing)
#3 wouldn't happen but even if theoretically it did, I wouldn't say it's hurting them for CCP to step in.
Anyway, CCP doesn't need to be sure about anything. They can do it for any reason or none at all.
But, yeah. These forums seriously need some indicator that the post has ended and the sig has started. |

thx chribba. those stats made me realize it's not that many chars; i always thought they came by the hundreds and blocking them would be like rock->hill - so i never actually tried x_X
but yeah.. the record holder was successful on at least six occasions according to his contract history last time i checked. it's a weird scam, but that's not my problem. the 23/7 bot behind it bothers me more. - putting the gist back into logistics |

All CCP has to do is add the number in english next to the price. I'm sorry, but 999,999,999.99 can easily be confused for 999,999.99, especially if you're tired/drunk ect. This should be hotfixed in, the number of scams will go down by 90%.
