Within one year, the price of Arbalest Cruise Launchers has dropped from 6 million to 2 million ISK in Jita. Do fewer people use them, or are they being dropped more frequently now? Or is it even a gigantic evil ploy?

I'm sure the torp boosts, in addition to the missile nerf, and the Stealth Bombers switching to torps has had something to do with it.

The missile nerf was the biggest evil-doer. Prices plummeted afterwards, then slowly started a climb back up to around 2.5m - 3m. Then the SB shift to torps happened and now prices have dropped to 2m - 2.5m.

Arbalests are kind of a stop over weapon. Players are going to step up to faction or T2 launchers fairly quickly or switch to guns because of the nerf. Launchers are primarily used in PvE so they aren't destroyed very often. Lower demand and gradually increasing supply means lower prices. Hardly a gigantic ploy.
I don't consider the Stealth Bomber changes to be a factor because Jita prices were around 2 million long before that.

Plus I doubt most stealth bomber pilots used Arbalest. Basically it's numbers like this. 1% of the population flies stealth bombers, 5-10% of those people use arbalest launchers. Not a very large number. Most either use T2 or cheaper T1 launchers likely.

quite a while back, arbalest seige and arbalest cruise were both around 4-5mil from my memory (bout 2 years now, as this is about when I bought mine) as both were useful for general mission running. a while back they changed torps into <30km killing machines, and thus rather useless for most missions. that is when the prices shifted a lot, arby torps dropped to like 200-300k, where arby cruise jumped up to 6-8mil each.
blah blah blah some stuff blah blah
now between the train for tech2, and the wide availability of faction thanks to the lp store, their prices evened out as more people bought up the arbys and didn't need to rebuy, and eventually resold. add in mission/0.0 drops of more and well, I believe that is where the current price comes from.

I see. Thanks so far, guys. A related question: why has the daily trade volume (in The Forge) increased from around 600 a year ago to 1000-1500 now? Do more and more PvEers sell the Arbys they were using a couple of months ago?

Arby cruise were used on tight fittings for the SB as for the question about the mission runners. I think the mission runners are starting to wise up to the idea that they can sell their loot for more than they can refine it. It takes some time but they are learning and so we in the market need to move faster than our prey.

Haha. Speaking as a mission runner, I see this a bit differently. Number of contributing factors: * Caldari navy launchers getting within reach of a larger group - very potent for missions, that RoF is just far better than what arbalest and T2 can offer. * Stealth bomber change = that crowd has zero demand for them now and they want to get rid of any stocks of them that they had. * Raven/CNR/Golem mission runners will want Cruise Missile to V, which opens the door to grab Cruise missile spec. This means T2 becomes a natural competitor for arbalest launchers. * Increase in EVE population, notably leading to a higher highsec population of mission runners, leading to more arbalests entering the market, while the price is battling with T2. And as said, those who are in the market for arbalests are very likely going to be in the market for T2 launchers - so it's a tradeoff battle. Settle for Meta 3, and skip meta4 and go directly to T2. Or get meta 4 (arbalest) despite the markup compared to T2.
That this is *the* mission runners dilemma is fairly evident from another observation: price of Arbalest heavy missile launchers has risen and is far far above arbelest cruise or T2 heavy launcher. This is Drake mission running demand, but faced with low supply. The difference is simple. Those guys in their drakes, waiting to trade up for raven/cnr/golem, do not want to waste time training for T2 heavy, so arbalest is top gun for them (since CN heavy is just far too expensive at that point).

This
If you were flying a SB for the purposes it was intended, you either fitted T2 because you knew you'd come out alive or you fitted cheap ass T1 cause you knew you were swamp bait. |
