Hi all,
Basically i'm thinking of branching into this particular area, covert ops, cloaks, covert ships, stealth tech etc.
Any recommendations for a relative new guy, or what may be best a guide on what to do and not do.
Am i wrong in assuming a cloak-on into position, cloak off target and shoot, cloak on to relocate type combat?

cov ops frigs are not great for combat, although a helios with double webs can be horrible to unsuspecting ceptors (as demonstrated by darknesses video)
recons are a different matter, but the cloaky ones are generally a bit weaker than their none cloaking counterparts.
I would suggest get in a corp which specialises in this sort of stuff as opposed to roaming about solo.

Edited by: Kitty McKitty on 28/04/2009 15:59:22 Covert-ops ships aren't generally used solo for combat but they are great for tackling while a damage dealer comes in.
yes you can move in cloaked, uncloak near the target and lock, scramble and hope for the best while your buddy comes in.
The part where you cloak and warp off though... this only happens if you either kill them or if you can break (ecm/damp) or outrange their lock.
Of course if they aren't warp scrambling you you can leave and cloak mid warp ^_^
I used to use a Helios with damps for tackling but not sure if it's still effective post nerf. Probably is with scan res damps.

The best role for a covops ship is as a scout for a fleet. Basically it's your job to locate targets, warp to them, and let the rest of the fleet warp in on top of them.
In order to be effective in a covops you need to train not only the ships skills and cloak fitting skills, but also your scanning skills (and not just the ones provided by the game, but you own ability to use the scan system) in order to find targets that may be on the move.

Ok,
So from your posts i take it, basically covops = scout (with forward warp location) and possibly provide moderate ewar support for fleets.
Though there is a chance of target of opportunity 1v1 attacks?

Covops training leads into Recons, which are the ship class you probably ultimately want. Same goes for Stealth Bombers. Both Recons and SB's can now warp cloaked. SB's were changed in the recent patch to fit Torp launchers instead of Cruise missiles. It's now possible for a SB to kill a ratting BS solo, whereas before it was rather unlikely.

Ok i think ya hit the nail on the head there. My only problem now is to choose whether to spend time training as i had planned or to go with an SB skill plan.
Currently my skill plan was based on specialising in amarr battlecruisers but obviously these skills will affect later ships too. 1. Instant Recall IV 2. Eidetic Memory I 3. Eidetic Memory II 4. Edited by: Grista on 28/04/2009 18:49:20 The only reasons to train BC to V are if you're making a specific alt (like Drake level IV mission runner - which is more easily accomplished in a Raven anyway) or are going to train for Command Ships.
Save the 30 day skills for later in your Eve career.
edit: also, that SB skill plan is wrong. SB now fit Torps (Siege Launchers) not Cruise, as of the patch 10 days ago.

I wouldn't want to be piloting a battleship with those skills alone...
Train up your support skills before you go jumping into big ships.
Aim for either the cov ops you wanted or as sounds more like your real interest, the stealth bomber. support skills you get for those ships will ultimately help you when you do get in a battleship.
