First off, read the Missions Guide. CCP has some fairly decent online documentation. So look at that first, then if you don't understand something - you can come to the forums and ask specific questions and understand the answers.
Race and ancestry are all irrelevant now. Everyone starts of with the same attributes. 7 in Charisma and 8 in everything else, which is about what you want.
First get yourself trained up to make some money - then concentrate on getting your Rank 1 Learning Skills done. Then earn some more money and work on your Rank 3 Learning skills.
Everyone should train salvaging. So, as mentioned above, unless you want to be a ninja salvager and salvage other peoples missions - there's nothing to do other than train the skill.
Don't fly what you can't afford to lose. Before you buy any ship - think about how you are going to replace it if it is lost. NEVER - put all your money into one ship. Don't become one of these people begging in local for someone to give them some money because they lost everything when the ship they'd spent ALL their money on got blown up.
Get yourself 2 destroyers. Fit one out with 5 big, long range weapons, a good afterburner and maybe an Overdrive Injector. Then kite the rats in the missions (get their agro and make them chase you). Fit the other with Tractor Beams and Salvagers.
One of the first skills you want to train are a couple of your Social Skills, specifically Social and Negotiations. Negotiations gets you more money for the same mission. Then work on your support skills, Electronics, Engineering, Mechanic, Navigation. Read the skills and see what they do. You want to increase your CPU, Power Grid, Capacitor, Armor and Shield capabilities and your ship handling. Get things to Level III to start as that is really quick, then come back later and get your Level IV's and maybe V's.
Before you go on to Level II missions you want your weapons skills trained up. You won't need much in the way of weapons skills to do Level I missions - but you will want them buffed up before taking on Level II missions.
Once you've done that - train the Social Skill Connections - that may get you into Level II's right then.
Once you've got some Level II agents available - then train for Faction Cruiser and get that to Level IV.
It's not possible for me to list all the skills you need to train or the exact order to train them in. But read through the Show Info's on all the skills in the above categories and get familiar with what they do.
There is no one right way to do things. The above is just some off the top of my head suggestions, not a syllabus. Some people emphasize getting into bigger ships faster for the extra fire power - I emphasize training your support skills so you have a better chance of not losing the ships you have. *shrug* One is the quick, slap dash, exciting way to making money as fast as you can - the other is more conservative. Losing ships is part of the game - be aware of that - but I don't like losing any more than I have to.
Of course - if you really want excitement - go PVP.
Fly Safe & Have Fun.
