What gives, CCP?
The final fight in the Sisters of Eve "Blood-Stained Stars" chain is unkillable unless you bring 5 t2 drones, or a friend. Lemme emphasize the "a friend". I talked to a dozen players in Sheroo, and all of them had the same story. They try to solo the quest themselves, and regardless of what size ship / guns they use, they do a fraction of what they do in normal damage to Dagan. The only people who were able to solo him, brought 5 T2 drones and a Myrmidon out.
Everyone else had to fleet with someone, and that person would do "normal" damage to Dagan. My friend showed up in his Vexor and decimated Dagan in 20 seconds. I'm sporting a Brutix Battlecruiser and I couldn't hurt Dagan after 45 minutes of repeated fire. I solo DED 4 space in my Brutix, and topple Agent Lv3 missions with relative ease. But not Dagan.
What gives, CCP? Why is Dagan nearly invincible?
It's the starter quest chain and every single new player to EVE has the same problems with it: The Warp-Inhibiting Drone swarm in Burning down the Hive and a near unkillable Dagan.

Really? A Myrm? I nuked him in roughly no seconds flat in an Ishkur… with T2 (light) drones, granted, but still. ——— “If you're not willing to fight for what you have in ≡v≡… you don't deserve it, and you will lose it.” — Karath Piki |

I used my Hawk, almost maxed skills. Took forever.
tl;dr- **** the Hawk.
But, yeah. These forums seriously need some indicator that the post has ended and the sig has started. |

I suspect there are issues here people haven't thought of, like perhaps he has some form of ewar such as tracking disruptors, that are cutting back on the damage you can do combined with high innate resistances. If you wind up fighting an NPC whose tank is just equal to your damage output, the result is exactly what you describe: you can fight him for minutes to hours doing nothing, but bring in just a little more damage and he'll go down rather quickly.
T2 drones are misleading, I think. Yes, they do more damage than T1 drones do, quite a bit in fact. But having the skills to use T2 drones also means you have the skills to learn Drone Interfacing (which I don't think anyone who uses T2 drones forgoes) and that's a massive increase to drone damage. ______________________________________________________ Isn't it enough to know that I ruined a pony making a gift for you? |

I like how all the people responding are flying ships above what the mission was designed for >.>
It's an arc for newer players - designed to be done with a Destroyer overall. With an AC fitted Thrasher, it took awhile [Dagan has a TON of resistances and a good shield tank] but is soloable with the right setup. Without a T2 Frigate, it's probably not doable unless you were using something beefy like a Rifter with T2 fittings, but I soloed it with my Thrasher and using all noobie skills and T1 fittings [nothing named]
Just have to keep working at him and fly in a good orbit around him. He has a hard time hitting both Frigs and Destros and once I killed his support, I just hugged him at around 1km and blasted away with EMP S. Any strong shield hurting ammo/damage type is recommended since the bulk of his staying power comes from his shield tank. Once it folds, he takes ALOT more damage but he will regen the shield in sizeable chunks.
It's all in the fitting of the ship :) Especially for the new players the arc is designed for. Course, having extra help never hurts \o

I think I did it in a brutix without any issues. No T2 drones. Solo.

That's probably because the OP stated that it was difficult even in something as silly as a Brutix… ——— “If you're not willing to fight for what you have in ≡v≡… you don't deserve it, and you will lose it.” — Karath Piki |

Same here but it did not take forever (I think I had to reload once - maybe twice - and I used rage rockets). But the Hawk has crappy DPS, even a Kestrel has higher DPS. This guy should not be a problem with a destroyer.

I used an ordinary arty Cruiser but it did take a lot of ammo. I wouldn't call him bugged. I went back to help a noob-buddy and took my arty Hurricane BC. That knocked Dagan out very quickly, no help from my friend's Destroyer. At about 25-ish km I took zero damage both times.
Sounds like you (and the folks you know) are not set to do enough DPS.

Took a little while to take him down in my Ishkur last night, but hardly problematic. I'm guessing CCP didn't intend this encounter to soloed by new players, although a decently fitted destroyer plugging away at him would manage it eventually.
Was fun though, reminded me of a few lvl 1/2 missions from years back which would occasionally throw a surprisingly tough NPC at you.

I killed him while with a trial account, flying a Punisher. The secret?
Had 2 other pilots join the fleet in their newbie destroyers. I speed tanked him, they blew him apart in a couple of minutes. Or three.
My take is that this is the way to do it. The arc missions introduces you (as a new player) to a lot of aspects of Eve. For this final mission, the most important lesson is: interact with other players, do things together.
Had a lot of trouble to with the other NPC that used a Nos, but that one i did on my own.

Did it solo in a Crusader (about 190 dps IIRC). Took a few minutes but wasn't too bad. My beef is rather that I recall reading that this a quest line supposed to be similar to level 2 missions so his tank seems a bit over the top. In some missions where a group is preferred it's mentioned, so perhaps a line in the mission description like "you might need to seek out some friends for this one" seems justified in this case.

at first i thought, how are new people supposed to kill that Harbinger or Dagan. of course, fleeting up. however, why can't multiple people share kill objective? it's quite disruptive if they have to kill him 3 times, if they are on the same stage of epic arc. might be good idea to look into changing this.

...2 hours and 4000 rounds of ammo later his shield still recharges back to full.
Either everyone in Manarq was AFK for 2 hours, or the people there just found it amusing that someone was requesting help and receiving none.
Why don't the Sisters of Eve or this commander send in some proper battleships, or a fleet or something to deal with Dagan if he's that important. Instead they rely on some lowly guy in a cruiser to do it for them with little pay in return. Anyone'd think I was some sort of Minmatar slave. I certainly shan't be working for them again. >_>

now is this supposed to be a plug for working together in an mmo (nah can't be that) or a it is time to buy a 2nd account now?
and dude above me, if you dont take him down in 2 hours with 4000 rounds, you wont take him down in 4 hours and 8000 rounds.
maybe fitting for more damage would help, as someone above said they killed him with a destroyer. now what size is he? if he is a frig sized enemy you might just be getting a large enough damage reduction for using medium weapons/drones.
ps low skilled cruisers do far less damage then high skilled destroyers.

Did him last evening in my Cormy. Speed tanked him @ 12Km while blasting him with 125mm rails. Took me about 10 minutes and once his shield popped he was down very quickly. If you prepare yourself well he is no problem at all.
