Someone once said: "To promote progress, we invent things that are easier to understand. However it just makes mother nature invent bigger morons."
Not pointing fingers at anyone, but if this statement makes you mad it might be about you.

Edited by: Astria Tiphareth on 27/04/2009 09:10:57 Scanning is far easier than it used to be - and I actually argue this is a good thing - we've opened up exploration to a much wider audience paving the way for more exploration-based activities, whilst keeping an element of difficulty, as the OP has established, ironically enough.
Combat scanning is in fact harder, as the whines over in GD indicate, complaining that they can no longer probe out a ship in under 20-30 seconds.
My probe scanner barely has to sneeze to find a wormhole in low-sec (I've not looked that hard in high-sec but I did find some). I'd suggest the problem may be where you're looking or your level of skills. There is certainly no need to make finding them easier. ___ My views may not represent those of my corporation, which is why I never get invited to those diplomatic parties... Environmental Effects

I think what he is talking about is finding other wormholes in wormhole systems and this can be a difficult task since there are so many signatures around, but with the current system of being able to isolate signatures I feel this has already been dealt with.

Mission runners are even easiert to find now, if you use the right filters.

Wat? I find like 6-7 Wormholes a day, what are you on? ----- Why doesn't anyone ever read the forums before posting? EVE is a game of adaptation and planning. Adapt or die. |

While I like the new scanning system over the old, I find it another ironic thing where in the scifi realm where people can invent jump drives and warp engines, but fail to grasp the compariably simplests of concepts such as directional range finding. I mean for God's sake the British invented it after all, it can't be that complicated!
Scanning for anything in the really real world doesn't take 4 scan points. It takes a range finder and knowing where you are located and which way it was pointed when it gets a return. Add in spectal analysis and bingo, you spin your dish around it finds a return, you point your analyzer at it, and a minute later you know its general composition. Done.
Scanning still needs some help. Directional scanning should give me warp in points and probes should extend my range but other than that, the whole scan, move the probes adjust the range, scan, move the probes, adjust the range, sca...... is painfull.
Every time they come up with a "new" feature that pulls me out of the main UI and into yet another drop down menu set I want to cry.

You're assuming the signals we pick up are possible to pinpoint directionally. E.g. if you're measuring gravitational waves, you'll be able to measure the waves at that point.
But there's no 'direction' at that one point, rather it's like having a buoy at sea, and only being able to measure how much it goes up and down. You might argue that the horizontal movements are also measurable. Yet those will be rather weak compared to the vertical.
Anomalies are the ones strong enough to measure the horizontal movements of. While weak signatures make your buoy move up and down by like a few millimeters per second.
So your demand has already been implemented. It's just that anomalies are the only ones strong enough to allow the use of directional scanning.

LoL
Scanning has gone from an Artform to a breeze... Scanners had respect for the work they did. now if you cant use one.. you havn't been trying hard enough.
its easier than F1,F2,F3,F4,F5,F6,F7,F8 in a gatecamp !! |
