I'm looking to get my minimatar standings up to a respectable level for various reasons wondering what the fastest way is if money is no issue - i'm thinking cosmos missions at the moment but is there another option? cheers tom

Money can't buy you faction standings. Start grinding those missions!
But, yeah. These forums seriously need some indicator that the post has ended and the sig has started. |

You might want to look into Data Centers. You can get one storyline mission from the agents there with the objective to hand in tags. You can only do each mission once.

Tags are expensive and the fastest way to get some facrion but its limited how much you gain from them.
The best method for quick gain is faction war.
Missions are the other choice.

If money is no issue then I would: Blitzing level 1s until your on the mission before a story mission and doing a level 4 to get a level 4 story line?
However, if you do not have access to anything but level 1s or no access at all... do COSMOS missions and grind till my eyes hurt.

Is the story line mission based on the last mission or the average then?

Nothing to do with money, but I noticed I was able to do missions much quicker by doing courier and trade missions.

^^This. Completing all the data center mission for one faction should give you 4-5 steps of faction standing; doing all of them for the allied faction should add another 2-3. It depends on what your starting standing is and on what your social skills are like.
It will happily set you back upwards of 1bil, though, depending on what kind of tags are required. ——— “If you're not willing to fight for what you have in ≡v≡… you don't deserve it, and you will lose it.” — Karath Piki |

Every 16 missions you run of the same level for the same faction gets you a storyline. Thus you could do 15 lvl 1s, 15 lvl 2s, 15 lvl 3s, and 15 lvl 4s; 60 missions, and still not ever get a storyline, (you could even do more than that if you kept switching factions as well).

You can't do that. To get to a storyline you need to do 16 missions with agents at the same level. That's because the storyline payoffs and standings bonus depends on the level the agent missions were run.
So if you alternate L1 and L2 agents, you will get storylines after the 31st and 32nd missions.

COSMOS and data centers work, as mentioned. If you want to run missions just to get standings, the fastest way is to run courier missions. The pay is lousy but you get to the storylines quickly. So pick the division carefully.
When you run storylines, make sure the agent for the 16th mission is is a region from an allied faction. When the storyline agent is in the allied region you get almost as much increase for the allied faction as for the storyline's faction. Ex: if running for a Minmatar NPC, do the 16th mission at a station in Gallente space. Then you bump Gallente as well as Minmatar.
Obviously courier missions allow you to do L4 storylines w/o a whole bunch of combat skills that you would need for L4 kill missions. But you may need to line up several agents because you would have to decline any kill missions. Worse, the L4 storyline could be a kill mission, even for a storyline agent in the right division. (Note if you decline a storyline you don't get another offer until you run 16 more agent missions.)
It would be nice if the moderator stickied one of these threads. The same question seems to come up at least once every two days.

If one of the reasons you want higher standings is to get access to jump clones, you can get those for free from players who are offering jump clone services. I used Estel's and was happy with it. I'm sure others work just as well.

Let's say that with Diplomacy lvl V my Minmatar faction standing is -2.13 and let's also assume that I'm -9.15 with Gallente.
Is there any way for me to gain 0.14 Minmatar standing so I can begin to run Minmatar missions?
It appears the agents at the Minmatar Data Centers, Cosmos Agents, and regular agents all require better than -2.00 Minmatar faction standing. |

Yeah, you can run missions for Sisters of EVE (they have hisec agents) and their storylines also give you a slight Gallente and Minmatar faction standing. Ofcourse you will get Caldar/Amarr faction hit in the process.

When I needed fast faction standing, I did some L2 mission, since they can be done in a cruiser/bc. But be careful, you might get a lot of empire faction missions.

As mentioned, Sisters may be an option. I believe there are other NPC factions that side with the Big Four factions and transfer standings (albeit slowly). You might check the "liked by" for Minmatar itself. If you go that route, be careful to run just courier missions if you need to worry about your Amarr/Caldari standings as well.
Note, though, that you are borderline for being unrecoverable. There are a couple of lessons here for new players.
(1) Never skill up Diplomacy V unless you really, really need it. It is the last resort to get you up to a level where you can run missions.
(2) Don't assume you will spend your entire EVE life doing one thing, especially mission running or pirating. Standings may not seem so important at the time but they can be a nghtmare later if you ignore them in the short term.
(3) If one is a kill mission runner by avocation, it isn't that difficult to maintain reasonable Big Four standings. (I run a lot of missions yet I have at least +1.0 standings for all of the Big Four.) You just need to plan ahead and divide the missions up between the pairs of Big Fours.
(3a) You also need to run storyline missions from an NPC station in the allied faction's region. That way you get a double dip since both factions receive a standings upgrade.
(3b) Running missions purely for faction standings is quite different. You want to run COSMOS, data center, or courier agent missions to boost faction standings quickly. IOW, all you are interested in is getting to agents with standings bonuses ASAP while minimizing hits to the opposing factions while doing so. (Hint: decline any faction kill missions for ordinarry agents; just run kill missions for the storyline.) Usually you will run such missions in a different location than running for combat and income.
(4) It is necessary to plan ahead in mission running. You have to pick the right location for the agent near a storyline in the right division and in the right region. (Just the 16th mission is important because that location triggers the storyline.) One reason mission hubs like Dodixie, Motsu, and Rens are popular is because they offer the right kinds of situations for important NPCs. (The downside is that the salvage pirates know that and cluster there.) So you need to do research and scout around for situations rather than grabbing the nearest L4 agent. Part of planning ahead is the convenience of taking a break to shore up standings with the opposing faction pair. Also part of planning ahead is having multiple agents at the level nearby so you can decline some missions, especially when just faction standings are the goal.

That's true; SoE doesn't have its own storyline agents. But you still get a storyline agent after the 16th mission and it will be in an NPC that grants faction standings for the faction where the SoE agent lives. [As it happens I just ran a bunch of SoE missions a couple of months ago in Everyshore. I needed > 6.7 standings with SoE so the storylines were gravy.]
SoE is only indirectly affected by the faction hits from running Caldari/Amarr missions so it is possible to have plus standings at SoE and negative Gallente/Minmatar standings. The result is a "back door" to get at the Gallente/Minmatar storyline agents. (The tricky part is getting to an SoE agent in G/M space if your G/M standings are seriously trashed.)
The same thing is true for all the quasi-independent "brother" factions that are loosely affiliated with Big Four factions. I suspect it was set up deliberately that way to provide a way out for those who badly screw up their standings.

Find an area where you have multiple agents in one location for the faction you want.
Then group with people (one at a time for handing in the mission)
Accept the mission undock and warp them to it. They complete the mission and you hand it in. Pay them for there time at an agreed rate and wallah. I did this with corp mates and must have had 7 missions going at the same time. This envolved me moving 4 - 5 jumps every 5 mins but was doing lvl 5 standings for amarr in less than 4 hours from scratch
Cost me 400 mil but well worth it as im Lazy :) **********

Accept missions for as many agents as you can and hire teams of people to run them for you, all you are limited by is how many people you can gang-warp to the missions. Then they just give you any required items back at your base and you turn those in and get new missions for your teams... Also, it has come to my attention that I'm really in need of a proper signature. |

Buy GTC or two. Go to http://www.eve-odessa.com/guides/en/cosmos.html (Gallente/Minmatar/SOE). Do missions, buy all mission loot from contracts (plenty of ppl farming them daily). Buy tags for Datacenters (http://www.evebott.com/).
Social IV and Connections IV.
Start of with tags to Datacenters, first drop what you can into Minmatar one, then go drop them to Gallente ones too. Do this untill you can't give anymore tags in. Then go to COSMOS systems, do them untill you can drop another load of tags.
With those two sites as guide and 500-700 M ISK you can get Minmatar/Gallente/SOE standings in 2-5 days to over 7.00 depending on how easily you can get the mission items.
