Greetings all :)
We've been experiencing some consternation in Class 4 and 5 wormholes with regard to the frigates. We generally take four to five battleships which can usually handle Sleeper cruisers and battleships without much of a problem. However, it's those pesky frigates that seem to be the bane of our life. They self/remote repair each other and battleships, given their size, have difficulties shooting at close range. Our T2 scout drones (well, any type of drone for that matter) seem to be picked off before they do any serious damage.
What strategy could be employed to destroy frigates in Class 4-5 wormholes with far greater ease, be it from bringing a different style of ship or attaching different modules?
Thank you.

You could finish off the BS's and Cruisers, then AB/MWD away from each other, reducing the overall transversal of the frigates and you can pick them off while they are attacking other ships. Or you could bring in a HAC at the end to help with the frigs. In class 2 and 3 sites I usually kill the frigates with just Warrior II's. Launch drones, attack, they get one volley on the frig and I hit return to drone bay. By the time they follow the command they've already got another volley off. Land in my drone bay just as the frigates have locked it. Repeat over and over until the frigates are dead.
I recommend you do this while you're killing other things, because it could be boring as hell doing that with nothing to shoot at.

Edited by: Diamaht Nevain on 18/04/2009 19:52:56 I've found that webbing works really well. On a blaster boat (which is what i like to use) single web a frigate then click "keep distance" so that you are always trying to fly away from your target. These two reduse transversal and combine to make it possible to hit with large guns. If you are not using blasters then you may need to double webb and use the same method.
In some cases i needed to use an AB as well when i'm tryig to keep distance.
Hope that helps =============================== Two words: Internet Spaceships |

comand ships should be the best choice considering the dmg output...
but in any case... some sort of designated frigate killer is in order

Bring an anti-frigate class to your set up. Destroyer, assault frig, hac, or what ever. A large drone ship with light drones works as well.

well the frigates got one weakness. they keep range. so just aproch them and they will start moving away and you will get a clean shoot. even a tachyon laser can hit when that happens _____________________________________________ yawnnnnn |

Thank you.
Get one pilot in an Ishtar, have him fit a passive shield tank, and as many drone speed upgrades as you can.
Assign all your drones to this pilot via the gang menus, and have him use all the drones, and his, attack the frigates. The drones will gain the Ishtars speed bonuses for drones due to the modules rather than the owning pilot.
Thus, they are too fast to hit properly, success.

I have remarked that in class 3 systems, frigates wont get farther than a certain distance from their battleships wing, so if you're far enough from the battleships, the frigates will want to get closer to you at the same time as they will want to go back to the battleships if they see they are too far.
For example if the sleeper battleships are 200km away, frigates will go back and forth at the 100km mark making them easy to kill.

Edited by: Fourty Niner on 20/04/2009 09:44:41 Unless there is some logisitical reason for it, I would spread your BSs out, then at least you have a chance of hitting the frigates as they hit the other BSs.
As said a T2 HEavy missile fitted tankie boat with presistion missiles, (ie Onyx, Drake or NightHawk etc) if you can spare the DPS useing T2 standard pressition missiles rather than Heavy.
Webs, maybe bring a dedicated webber? (Even thou nerfed they still work) (ish) Target painters, you could try and target paint.
I do like the simplicity of "move" away from them. But as they go faster than all but interceptors they are gonna be on top of you very fast.
We went for the "massive passive drake" with 7 t2 normal (small) t2 missiles, which so well that the drake would have to hold fire sometimes to not kill the trigger too early

Been using a single T2 web on a Harbinger, and it slows the frigs down adequately for my Pulse IIs to track (class 3 WHs).
Tend to warp in at a 100, and let the frigs approach with MWD. You can pick one off at range before they get under your guns and need webbing. Just warp out and back at a 100 from your prev. spot, rinse/ repeat.

If you've got several BS, double webs + painter(s) makes mincemeat out of them using fast tracking BS size guns, or gardes.
<sigh> Oh, the days of 99% marauder webs
Edit: Not that I'm bringing Marauders into W-space , but maybe I would risk it if they still had 99% webs.

I noticed yesterday that a pair of tech 2 vespa's (medium drones) took relative good care of frigs, more then t2 medium drones, but then again I wasn't using warior's.
