Edited by: Xocoatl on 15/04/2009 03:08:04 Hello, I got a small but still important problem here: I would like some AA on my EVE but it looks like im unable.
People said i should just force it through my GPU. I know its sometimes possible but not always. And for EVE it didnt work for me through using the Catalyst Center. I got a 4850 and im playing on 1280x1024 resolution, maxed out details.
For any hint i will be grateful.

Edited by: Pliauga on 15/04/2009 04:33:28 Read this thread.
Suggestion from post #27 works great for me.
Edit: tried this with HD 4850 and HD 4870, both work.

Edited by: Xocoatl on 15/04/2009 12:20:18 Hmmm.. I will try my best but it looks bit complicated to me, lot of manipulations. Think they really should put in some ingame option for it. Because of the ship designs EVE is very vulnerable to AA issues. Maybe i dont need AA anymore at a resolution of 1600x1200. My current monitor however isnt supporting it, so i will need a new monitor. This GPU can handle such resolutions for sure. Anyway, im gonna try, and i will contact ATI too, because they could put in some driver profile for EVE online so it works without mods.
I mean, the thing you basically did, seems like you simply forced the GPU to load a driver profile made for the game "Oblivion", because that game obviously had the same issue. There isnt a EVE profile, so you simply take the Oblivion one.

Edited by: Pliauga on 15/04/2009 12:31:21 The reason that I think Eve does not officially support AA + HDR is because you get an occasional wierd looking artefact, usually in asteroid belts. If CCP were to implement this as a feature they would have to dedicate programmers (quite a few maybe) to actually solve these issues. And only a fraction of the playerbase would benefit.
Higher resolutions help, but you can still see the jagged edges clearly.
And it's not so complicated to implement, just use the ".vbs" script that guy wrote. Works for me at a mouse click. Fast and simple.

call me stupid or not :P
i think the main reason its not there yet, cuz this game gets support from..
NVIDIA (nothing wrong with this part...)
however...
the 6xxx & 7xxx series of NVIDIA (so the DX9 gfx cards), no NOT support HDR+AA, as the 2 are working together... there not doing so...
contacting ati en-masse, bout this and get a game profile just like oblivion would surely resolve this issue. |

When i use that "trick", will i still get the artifact bug?

I think, most users are using pretty old PCs and a lot probably doesnt even have any real GPU, except some onboard GPUs. So they are naturally running it at the lowest settings and such. As far as i know, DX9 got implemented at the Trinity 2 engine, which was in december 2007, at that point DX9 was already out for about 4-5 years or so. Probably because to less users was in demand of it and it simply was no priority. Anyway, i still think, even if just a few users actually got powerful GPUs, its still nice to be here for everyone and not just for the majority. But im sure in future we will see a lot of new developments according to those matters, even if it takes quite a lot of time.

As far as artifacts go all is well and pretty until I warp in to an asteroid belt.
If contacting ATI could really help then I'd be more than happy join in. |

Edited by: Miss Xoco on 16/04/2009 18:20:43 Actually i dont truly need HDR, of course its a very cool option but when any other settings are maxed out it looks even great without HDR. AA however is a must have somehow. The artifact bug shouldnt happen when HDR is disabled.
Then, about ATI, not sure they gonna move theyr fingers for it. Even, i simply try everything possible, and i know a AMD moderator, working on some ATI fansites aswell. He may know how to contact AMD/ATI in the most effective way possible. The rest simply is luck, but when you arent trying at all, you already failed before you ever started.
And as you know, ATI is updating theyr drivers every single month. So its not impossible having a profile added for it at some driver updates.

Edited by: Molly Mayhem on 18/04/2009 09:26:39 I sent ATI a bug report re: EVE online not respecting forced AA settings a couple of months ago, the month after that they added a profile to their driver so that forced AA worked without renaming anything. AFAIK it still does, but there are tons of artifacts now that Apoc. is released. It's bad enough that I don't force AA any more actually :(

For nVIDIA users turning off HDR and forcing FSAA and AA from control panel works fine. I do not get artifacts or other weirdness. I have made no modifications to anything, not OC'ed, no regedit's, no copy of the bin or what ever. I frankly don't see HDR giving anything over AA. Having HDR and ships with jagged edges just doesn't make sense. HDR is about improving the quality but I think AA should come first in a game like this because the edges are so visible.
I have tried many if not all of the "solutions" to get AA and HDR working at the same time but non of them have worked. Oh sure I can run eve fine with the "solutions" but AA is never on as long as HDR is.
I am running vista x64 and nvidia. ..................................................
May we all have the courage to believe. Long live Mifune! |

wait until dx10 is the gaming standard on the **** computers that 80% of the playerbase uses, then eve will support AA natively.

if it worked fine until apoc, submit another petition to ati, that their profile needs updating.... |

Yeh, still not working for me, not even with newest 9.4 driver. Seems like as with the new patch the old ATI profile was outdated and now its not working once again. Then about DX10, obviously we wont get it so soon even if it was announced 1 year ago, i think. My Vista machine is basically DX10 ready since 2 years. But somehow the development for new technologys always takes long, no matter where. On of the first onlinegames who got DX10 was "Age of Conan" and they got the DX10 just right now and are still testing it. It seems like my machine is newer than the software or the development actually is able to handle.
Graphic isnt everything but EVE basically got a great graphic aswell, if the AA would be fixed, its even more fun to watch those beautyful ships.
