I'm not a GM/CCP/ISD, but I think this is legal...

Originally by: "GM Faolchu" Hello everyone, Although Gamemasters don't usually post on the forums, I felt it necessary to post here and prevent any misunderstandings. We allow the use of a G15 or similar keyboard operated macro, you press a key and all your guns activate at the intervals you set. That usage is fine, macro clients that allow the user to operate a client without being at the keyboard is not (ie a macro that does everything for you, without you doing anything regardless of where you are). Hopefully that is end of the discussion of whether G15s are allowed or not, they are allowed.
At the risk of misquoteing a GM (sorry if I am), but it's on the same topic. It was brought up if the joystick controller was legal for various reasons, yet I don't see it doing anything different than you could do with a G15 and a mouse. Press a button to fire, weapons, press another to lock targets. I'm guessing this is using some form of input remapping, generally macros (the macro miner kind) work on detecting colors and locations on the screen. For example, if someone appears in local for a 0.0 macro miner, that portion of the screen will change color, macro detects this and logs off. To do this the macro needs to read information from the game, in a certain way (you move local, it won't work), and then act on that.
Since his program doesn't appear (haven't used it) to have to have game set at a certain resolution, color depth, or color theme, then it doesn't appear to do this, He's remapped certain buttons to do certain actions without reading anything from the game (similar to the G15 discussed earlier).
Basically because this tool would work exactly the same without the game (again, haven't tried it, don't own a joystick anymore, but the game doesn't have to be loaded, and it takes no information from the game), it's not considered an "extra or tool -for the game-". It'd be similar to plugging in a different mouse or keyboard. I can confirm that this does work without the game loaded (not even on this laptop) or a joystick installed, it causes some very weird responses from my touchpad, unintended, but again, it proves that the game isn't required.
Yea, I could ramble on for a while trying to show my point, it is a thin line though, so if you don't get it by now you probably won't. In the end it seems CCP is ok with things that don't a) read info from the game/change the game files and b) don't allow you to go AFK and perform actions.
But I'm not CCP, I look forward to their response on this, Eve has needed joystick controls for a while, even if they are just for the fun of it.
