I see a person in local and I would like to find them in a crowded system. I know nothing about what kind of ship they're flying. They're not at an astronomical object. The only thing I know for sure is that they're not in a station.
Is there a way to find that person?

A good prober with a lot of patience, intel on their ship type, or luck.

Fail. :(

By this, do you mean scanning every ship in the system and just seeing whether or not it's them?
:(
Is there any other way?

Edited by: fivetide humidyear on 09/04/2009 07:59:27 the direction scanner you are given for free is one of the best tools you have for finding ships. the next stage is to get your probing skills up and start probing for ships, however:
finding one person in a crowded system without knowing ship type is going to be difficult, even with good probing skills due to number of hits, keep a watch on their home station till you spot what ships they like to fly and go from there.

See he helps you and you flame him WTF? Pathetic.
Your options are... blindly use the direction and probe scanners till you find him OR...
Do some recon... ask some people or cloak up and observe gates / stations. You must know SOMETHING about this person if you are singling them out in the first place.
It's kinda obvious what Jimer Lins meant. I hope you find your mark and they kill you for being such a jerk.
Also as mentioned getting a gang invite is the easiest way, it may be possible to get an alt or mate to gang with them and then get a warp in on your mate.
Of course you didn't provide much info so this is very general advice.

Adopt the strategy for navigation used by Dirk Gently in the books by Douglas Adams - "My own strategy is to find a car, or the nearest equivalent, which looks as if it knows where it is going and follow it. I rarely end up where I was intending to go, but often I end up somewhere that I needed to be."
You might stumble across your intended target, but if not, you will likely find all kinds of other acceptable targets on the journey ;-)

Use the directional scanner, hope that they havn't renamed their ship.
Ask people in local (private convo)
convo him and ask him for a 1v1, honoring said 1v1 is totally up to you.
Look for POSes in said system, do any of them have a name pertaining to your target or his corp Invite him to fleet, if you are not CEO you could say you are wanting to join their corp as your corp are a bunch of *******s or somthing like that, then warp to him.
Check all the stations, or check his info, then standings then see if there is an agent in system that he has good standing towards.
Fire up the probes and hope to get lucky.
Sit on a gate and hope he jumps through.
Hope that helps
Oh and one last point; You just lost the game. |

My good deed for the month:
Do you have a locator agent nearby? Use it to identify precisely where they are (station or space)
Are they in space? Use your 360 scanner to try and match the player name with the default name on their ship If you are lucky enough to find a match, narrow down their location. Drop probes, and use your head to single out the ship in the direction of your target.
Do you suspect your target to be running missions? Right click your target in local, select "show info". Click on the standings tab and match their standings to corps that have stations in the current system Found a likely match? Congratulations, you know where they are most likely to return after their mission. Patiently wait at the station and capture the ship type and NAME when they come back to dock

Yell, "MARCO!" in local chat. Your target will have to reply, "Polo." and then you follow the sound of his voice.

Yes, I said what I did knowing you weren't aware of the ship type (I did read the post), but assuming you'd understand you'd need to get that in some way. The guy's gonna dock up or go somewehre at some point.
If he's in a player corp, find a station in system with offices for his corp and wait outside it. You'll see him eventually. Run locators on him and see where he likes to hang out, catch him on a gate and see his ship type.
If he doesn't change his ship name, you can get "John Doe's Raven" on directional and take it from there.
If he's running misisons and he's been doing it for a while, he probably does it in a bigger ship- Drake Raven, that sort of thing. Use your imagination.

So far the general consensus is that this type of searching (which is common for high sec wars?) is hella harder than lowsec piracy (shoot whatever moves that you can kill).
This is last bump - ty for your help guys.

More common in hi-sec, yes. Kills are more challenging (and more rewarding) in hi-sec too. Goofy-ass low-sec pirates are the pirates too lazy to be creative when it comes to getting kills.
Oh yeah, I went there. Arg, I need a new sig. |

Can you please tell the other corp's in your alliance to stop dishonoring 1v1's in Kusomonmon?

This, You can find out allot about a target by his standings and bio. Like if he mission runs or mines that gives you places to start. Agent locator's help allot to as do nuetral alt's you can put in said system.
