Description: Stealth bombers represent the next generation in covert ops craft.
Purpose: Advanced techniques in spatial distortion technology enable them to potentially fly faster when cloaked than when uncloaked - a fact which, coupled with their considerable firepower, makes them extremely dangerous in the hands of an accomplished pilot.
Problem: Lack of stealth after ship uncloaks. Ship should be glass cannon, but stealth should be it's defense at all times, not just while it's cloaked.
Proposal: Maintain the bonuses currently but add a cov ops sig radius reduction bonus. While the weapons system is still questionable, the damage is not, so that is not addressed.
Why this will work: If done correctly the ships that could counter the bomber would be fast locking ships such as ceptors. In order to counter the "stealth" of the bomber additional sensor boosters would be needed. IE: Stealth.
Opinion: It never made sense to me why the stealth bomber stopped being stealthy after it uncloaked. It and the cov ops cousin are supposed to be hard to lock but as soon as the cloak is shut off it stops being stealthy? It should be harder to lock and hit then a ceptor being balanced by it's lack of speed or hitpoint tank and it's inability to hit smaller ships moving at full speed.

no, they really don't. I swear, they're just fine without. - Verin "Stitcher" Hakatain. |

It was a pre-nerf, making them survivable coupled with their massive alpha was all too much. Now they are getting cov ops cloaks but will have to get in close to use the torps. I dont think it should be harder to hit than a ceptor anyway, it is a "bomber" after all. Being easier to hit than an assault frig is a bit much though.
I don't think there is any reason to think SBs should be stealthy after they decloak. They are very much the kill or be killed design which is as intended i think.
A slight reduction to the sig radius to bring them in line with assault frigs would be ample enough, but lets wait and see how powerful they are with the cov ops cloak and torps before doing that.

um, Like in real life, When a stealth bomber or fighter is flying it is nearly undetectable when normally deployed, but the instant it begins deploying its charges (ie. bombs away or firing your missiles) it loses its radar invisible bonus, thus making real life stealth bombers loose thier stealth when bringing fire to bear. This is fixed by them to stop firing and thus when that happens they disappear off radar again.
This brings up the point that Bombers should be able to decloak fire and instantly recloak while their ammo continues toward their targets. THATS whats really gay about the SB is that you have to stay uncloaked. unlike real life.
