I am wondering what the potential downsides are to accepting fleet invites from non corp members. I am not in an NPC corp; if I accept a fleet invite in high-sec from a person in a different corp, am I in danger of being ganked? I'm thinking of asking in local for people who are speed-running level 4 missions if I can come in and salvage and I want to see if I'm opening myself up to gankage by doing that. Also, if I'm in someone's fleet, can I tractor their wrecks for easier salvaging, or does that only work if I'm part of their corp?

I'm 99.8% sure that at the current time being in the same fleet but different corps does not allow concord free PvP (it used to).
Yes being in the same fleet in space in the same system allows tractoring of wrecks.

I think I recall seeing on the fleet invite popup that attacking non-corp members in fleet is not a Concord-sanctioned activity... I just know Eve is full of ways to gank unsuspecting folks, and I want to do what I can to avoid that.

It used to be that if you were in a fleet with someone at war with another corp, you automatically became a valid war target as well. This is no longer the case as it was changed to accommodate fleet warfare (at least I think that is why it was changed). However, if you remote rep a person at war with another corp you are still flagged as a war target, in fleet or not. Also if you remote rep someone and they engage in criminal activity, you are also flagged. So as always, be careful who you help out. "You kids have it easy, in my day Trolls had to use bridges." |

My understanding is that they closed the 'joining a gang with someone at war' loophole, so simply joining a gang with someone should be safe. Be careful what you do to the wrecks, though; shooting them will get you CONCORDed and taking loot from them before salvaging them will get you theft-flagged. For a reason unclear to me, it is legal salvage the wreck, then loot the can. Go fig.
