Eve is a great dynamic system, but it needs more salt.
Yeah, I'm aware that this idea will slow down some systems and such, but that's a problem to be solved not an obstacle to be shied from.
I would like to see more fluff npc ships, just one or two per solar system (more if the system can take it). My ideas for fluff ships would be:
Hospital ships Shipyards (with part made ships connected) Biodomes Private Yachts Cruise Liners Floating Cities Orbitals (oh, ok, a man can dream). Dyson Spheres (ditto with the man dream thing)
That sort of thing. Make the universe feel dynamic. |

I, too, would love to see some of this. as said though, it should really be done in a way that doesn't really impact server load. I think if they ever get the systems multi-threaded, this is a no brainer.

I agree, EVE needs more civilian class ships floating about.

I'd also love to see this. I already liked those "fluff-ships" back in Privateer and Freelancer...

Actually, it won't. The ships you wish for would be most dominant in highsec, where you got the smallest fleet concentrations outside the market and mission hubs anyway. If the number of such ships was just put in a negative proportion to the players active inside the system, it will not slow anything but the most crappy computers down.
Originally by: Ellova Sonovavich Hospital ships
Better yet: Hospital ships deploying MedEvac shuttles throughout the system and to local battlesites. I think it would be cool if MedEvac shuttles would arrive randomly at combat sites, be it player vs. player or player vs. npc, to zip around and collect survivors. They could add some clouds of ship crew escape pods, too. Those could easily be made as 2D fluff sprites, or small animated swarm entities. Hardly more computing needed than for a a few rogue drones that have moving legs and antennae. ;)
Originally by: Ellova Sonovavich Dyson Spheres
Once every player has his own private fleet of 12 different Titans, I am sure Dyson Spheres become viable, credible and... no. Dyson Spheres are just nonsense within EVE. Unless it was something that would be constructed. Like the Amarr starting to build one, estimated to take about a thousand years to complete. Then start adding that process into the game content. Hundreds of cargo ships transporting resources to construction hubs in orbit of some sun, capital mining vessels breaking up the moons and gas giants inside that system. Stuff like that. Probably far to megalomaniac, though. Even for the Amarr.

Edited by: Daedalus II on 03/04/2009 15:36:43 I'd like to see more npc pirate attacks and such. Maybe the hospital ship could get attacked and send out a distress call in local? Then players can fly to their aid and get some kind of reward if they help them or nothing if the ship gets destroyed.
Also I'd like npc pirates to attack stations and stargates, putting siege to systems in a similar way to gatecamps, but without warp scramblers and not attacking players that can't defend themselves to allow unwilling players to get away. It would be cool to actually have to fight through a gauntlet of pirates that attack a station while there's weapon fire in all directions around you
You could actually use the pirate gatecamps as a way to lighten the load on congested systems by them "shutting down" most of the stargates into the system.

You sir, are a genius.
This would seriously bring life to many dull situations and generate vast amounts of immersion.

I like that. It would make a change from kill all or kill one type kill missions. Be nice to get bonuses for things other than time too. ______ Patience begets profit, profit begets power, power begets everything. |

sounds good.
though hospital ships sound a lot like SOE and they are said in the back story to show up after us capsuleers go through an area blowing everything up. They are apparently the ones who come and save some of those poor ship crews we slay by the millions. actually seeing them fly around and watching some of those escape pods and whatnot jettison could be fun.... especially if you had the option to destroy them.

This would be cool. Say, the empires build their cap ships in high sec. Have a ship get updated periodically, then when it is ready, a GM could "undock it" by resetting the graphic and spawning w/e ship, then cynoing out.

If this happens, all the ships should be buildable and pilotable by players. I also think this should be extended to all the rat ships that currently are not available to players.
For these new "fluff" ships, they need not be anything fancy, perhaps like shuttles/haulers with different speed/cargo/durability characteristics, but no fitting slots. For example, a hospital ship could double as a hauler (probably the most likely player use for it) though it wouldn't have as big a cargo capacity as a normal hauler. Perhaps it could align quicker, to get out of danger more quickly. Perhaps this could also lead to some missions which would require rescuing refugees from a combat zone. Only a hospital ship could pick up the survivors, but there would be rats everywhere, and they would keep respawning, so the hospital ship would need friends in combat ships to keep it safe.
Yachts and cruise liners would be more for posing in than anything. Perhaps they could just be expensive shuttles, and a liner could have a better cargo capacity (cruiser size?), maybe a yacht could have a warp strength bonus. Or maybe they are just expensive because they look awesome, and it's a good way of showing off your wealth? Perhaps they, as prestige targets, could hold a chance of a pirate raid going after them as they jump through a gate in highsec? Perhaps that pirate raid could contain ships not otherwise available in highsec, BSes for example, maybe even faction or officer spawns?
Shipyards/Biodomes/orbitals etc would be nice eye candy as well I guess. It would be nice to have space feeling a bit less empty. It's be nice to have a lot more opportunities for sightseeing. Maybe Luminaire has the galaxies biggest, most impressive biodome, or the extensive shipyard facilities in Odatrik are a must see, for example. I know one of the main things which puts new players off eve and on to other MMOs is that it's not that interesting to just explore in Eve. Maybe stuff like this could help.

This. eve is a beautiful game, but currenlty there are only really a few places to go sightseeing, the eve gate, kinda disapointing, the titans scattered around, the concord station that was destroyed, the ishukone one that got rammed by the nynx and a few grave yards of ships, eve should have stuff tht is pretty to find tht is off the beaten track!
