What's the best uses for a covert ops ship? Or any unique things that only a covert ops ship is useful for?

Covert Ops Frig: Sneaking and Peeking, I use it for exploration.
Covert Ops Cruiser: Sneaking and Peeking and then turning off cloaking device and ruining someone's day.

I use cov-ops to: Gather intel on enemy movements, Provide warp in points for friendly fleets, Sit cloaked in a system to annoy foes, Probe out wormholes/plexes, Run skillbooks / implants from empire to 0.0.

This question is just SOOOOOO easy to abuse but I won't!
The covert-ops class is intended for sneaking, scanning and intel.
It's one of the few classes that can warp cloaked, the other two being Force-recons (ewar cruisers) and blockade running transporters.
If you look at the ship bonus it's main role is to probe out systems. This could be other ships, safespots or the cosmic signatures (complexes, exploration sites and wormholes).
It's used as a scout for gangs or fleets since it's essentially the safest thing to send into an unknown system.
They can be set up to scan down and tackle ships before your support come in.
In some exceptional circumstances they can be used to solo kill ships, but they have to be pretty weakly tanked, or be taking heavy npc damage already.
It can be used to scout out POS's and other infrastructure. Gathering intel this way can help later plans for POS takedown for example. You can also observe enemy patterns of operation.
Its about the safest thing you can use to move valuable items about albeit in small quantities. If your taking a titan BPO through high-sec you use this ship.
There's lots of different uses but they fall into the above broad areas of operation.
I loves me cov-ops.

Hey I want to say thanks for the serious reply's I do appreciate it. I just have one other question. Can both covert ops ships warp while cloaked? Or only one?

No problem!
There are two types of covert ops.... the um... 'covert ops frigate' and the 'Stealth Bomber'
The covert ops can warp cloaked. These are the ones with a special bonus for the 'covert ops cloaking device II' (or similar name?). The stealth bombers can fit normal cloaks but cannot warp without uncloaking first. You will know you are doing it wrong when you try to fit the covert ops cloak to a normal ship. It wont fit whatever you do.
Here are the covert ops ships:
Caldari = Buzzard Gallente = Helios Minmatar = Cheetah Amarr = Anathema
Here are the Stealth Bombers:
Caldari = Manticore Gallente = Nemesis Minmatar = Hound Amarr = Purifier
When people talk about covert ops they are 99.99% of the time talking about the former 4 ships.
Stealth bombers are a completely different beast to the ship roles discussed in this thread.
Feel free to ask any more questions here and I will check in

when I saw the golem was going down to a few npcs and a broadsword I cried a little inside, mainly because I knew it wouldn't drop any phat loots, that and a t2 battleship was dying to a few rats and a hic.

That's funny chainsaw, but Isn't it preferable for a cov-ops pilot to be off killboards? Or um... talking about them on galnet... *cough* Not that I fly them. |
