Originally by: Gutsa i have a belkin router, changing to a d link gaming router can fix this problem?
I would suggest switching to a hard line, at least temporarily. With out knowing how D-link deals with EMI there is no way of knowing if itÆs a step in the right direction. If a router is UL listed then it must deal with moderate levels of EMI. (ThatÆs a requirement for certification) However the method used to combat EMI is left up to the individual manufactures. As I understand it some brands use spread frequency shifting wile others use ôburstingö (Lots of info/packets sent in a very short time) and with out knowing up front which is used, you may be throwing your money away for nothing.

Good Morning, CCCP how you doin'?
as you can see i'm not too good. not too good 'cause of 'connection to server lost' issue.
you have changed something in code or in server settings around half a year ago, maybe it's a time to 'unchanged' it, dont you think?

I tried a hard line to my router but unfortunately no dice, thanks for the attempt tho mate. As for you and your patch CCP, took all of 30 seconds before i was disconnected again... =/

And on a side note i don't see anything in the 1.1 patch notes about the socket errors, i hope for everyones sake CCP u just accidently left that text out...
Please donÆt think that just because youÆre not close to power lines that there isnÆt significant EMI around you. There are HUGE numbers of things that can (and do) put out ALOT of EMI.
I very brief and partial list; Sun activity Time of day Atmospheric conditions Cars (I can actually ôwatchö cars go by on my oscilloscope) Car repair shops (welders HUGE!!) Buildings Terrain (Valley-Flatlands) TV towers Humidity Fluorescent lights (Huge)
This is not a complete list by any means. And most of these donÆt put out high levels of EMI by themselves. But when you put a bunch of these around a single spot you make a ôHot spotö where EMI is focused to a stronger degree than the surrounding area. The ONLY way to know if you have an EMI problem is to use an oscilloscope. (Along with an FM dipole antenna for the frequency range you want to scan)
Since most people have no idea what and oscilloscope is, or how to use one. The easiest solution is (in my opinion) to switch to a hard line. If people donÆt have the tools/skill sets to directly address the problem, itÆs best just to side step the problem entirely. And switching to a hardline does that nicly.
Just as a little background IÆve had this router for several years now, and lived in the same home for the same time. ItÆs only EVE that I have this problem with (on my gaming PC) all of my other computers and programs are fine.
I suspect that the EVE cluster is recognizing the bursting pattern as lost packets. IÆm not 100% sure of this, since I donÆt have access to the information CCP has collected in their testing. BUT given what CCP have said along with other posters comments; I feel my conclusions have a fairly strong argument.

Yes, it's gotten much worse for me, too. I can maybe get a few build jobs started, but that's it. Sometimes I don't even get to the character selection screen. It freezes when trying to grab any database data from tranquility, opening corp hanger, market, station build slots, all of them cause me to loose sync, and time out a minute later...

Originally by: CCP Fallout The only way we have been able to do that so far is by artificially creating packet loss of 30% or higher, this would indicate an issue with the userÆs connection as opposed to our software or hardware.
I believe there may be an interaction between EVE and people's hardware that causes the problems some of the time. With several different PCI wireless cards, I have often found that packet loss between my PC and my wireless router jumps substantially (from < 1% to over 30%) when the client is running, and at no other times, even when running other 3D games. During these times I have always got very frequent socket closed errors, to the point of not being able to get past the character selection screen because the client keeps rebooting.
The rest of the time, with the client not running, packet loss has not affected the connection.
Is it possible that the PCI bus is being saturated by the client, causing packet loss that triggers the socket closed errors? Or maybe this is an issue with defective motherboards? Perhaps someone could experiment by turning on vsync (interval one iirc) to see if that helps? --- 20:1 mineral compression ISRC Racing, Season 7 - schedule |

Hey Rezaa i've noticed my new trace route doesn't have telecity in it which is a bonus but now the last few hops have like 5% packet loss each so i'm still getting disconnected a fair bit =/

Come on guys, stop blaiming packet loss and telecity, it might help a bit but they are not the main reason for socket closed. Try and use http tunnel |

my internet isn't the problem, apart from eve nothing else is slow or disconnecting its just your software that is laggy and crashing

the best part is that you dont get the to see the disconnect alot of time too. if i dont try to do aything in eve it doesnt show. so i cant camp anything with out having to click and move a bit every minute to check if i am still connected.
I have 7 accounts of which some have been around since 2003 this is the worst eve has ever been for me. and stop telling me its my internet. you patched your software lately. my stuff at home hasnt been changed.. logic tells me that the errors must be at your end

What's weird about this error is when I get it, it brings my entire system down with it. The browser, spotify, what have you. It's as if eve locks up my nic or vista's network handling. My flatmates connection is still running, and if he's logged in on TQ - he stays logged in. I have to reboot to get the connection back.

Hmm, +1 to the list of people experiencing disconnects. The client connection to the server was 99.999% stable before the last patch. I could AFK at a POS or station for >12hrs. Now when I log in I can disconnect any time from 2 minutes to 1hr. I can rarely stay online for more than 1hr. This occurs on both a Windows Vista 64bit and Windows XP machine.
Both machines are connected to a Wireless 802.11n network. No problems with connectivity to the server from what I can see.

Just wanted to toss in my two cents worth. I started playing only a week ago. About three days before the last update. Those first days I had no problems at all. However, since the update and my decision to become a paying member I have been plagued with the socket loss problem. So I followed what CCP said to do about creating a bug report with the logfile attached. Suprise suprise all I got in return is a terse reply saying that the problem was already noted. I know that nothing changed on my laptop between my trial and becoming a paying member so I guess that just leaves CCP. On the bright side being a rookie means I can squeeze in the training missions between dropouts but going out pirate hunting seems an unlikly prospect.

hmm, that would explain why CCCP is working on 'walking into stations!' feature. you will or will not, depends :] and you gonna walk around in station... you will CTD without a warning... log in in a few hours, walk a little more, drop again... etc., without a risk of losing a ship
all we'll do it's gonna be switching skills and enjoy stations.

its not the router.. you saying that out of the blue my router suddenly has socket errors ? i did not change anything to my setup here. same ISP for last 2 years, since the patch the game crashes within the hour.. on all my laptops and pc's CCP changed something but as usual is giving their customers stuff the blaim. this is getting to the point where eve is just unplayable as i cant really do anything since i know i will crash soon. also when i crash it takes forever to log back on and this website is also down.
rol back whatever you changed CCP this affecting alot of paying customers and you seem to be doing practically nothing about it
its really starting to **** me of. where are the updates? apart from saying its our ISP's causing this.. Also the power lines around my house havent been increased recently so stop making lame excuses for your **** ups

Yeah funny stuff.
I've been having issues with this as well since the last patch. Even reinstalled the client because it would not even start anymore, worked like a charm.... for 5 minutes. Then the socket issues came back again.
My machine hasn't changed. My ISP hasn't changed. My router/cables haven't changed.
Please fix this... my alliance is having alot of fun and i want to join!

OK I think a few people need to calm down and listen to the facts here.
This isn't CCPs fault it is the fault of a company that does network transit from the Docklands Datacentres in London called Telecity, you have seen their name crop up in some of the trace routes earlier in the thread.
Taking some time to have a look at their published transit/router settings they seem to be out of date from what I and a friend who work on boring techy stuff have observed. This in itself will not cause a problem like people including myself are experiencing.
Looking at traffic reports and the like the router that is part of one of the 4 possible transit routes to the EvE server found at 87.237.38.200 has a flakey machine on it. This could be hardware/software/setup/someone spilt coffee on it there is no way to know. The problem is that this issue is intermittent so it might not be the one router but some routing issues where two routers have entered into a cyclic relationship where their believe they should route traffic to each other and so your messages never get to the server and the server cannot talk to you until auto loadbalancing procedures on the routers kick in and give you another route. This is unlikely as all decent hardware will pick up on this and fix it so it would be a case of having two routers being damaged and getting confused and sending traffic back and forth endlessly.
This also explains why it is only happening to some people and not others. Since there are four ways in and it all depends on how peering is setup by your ISP.
The only way for this to be resolved realistically is for CCP to contact Telecity who they will be paying alot of money too to provide a high speed transit route and ask them to sort out the router in question which from looking at its name is dedicated to CCP. In the interim your network guys could just disable all traffic going to Telecity until it is sorted. The effect this will have on those who are having problems would be minimal since the number of hops between the Telecity transit route and the next best is one so taking for example a 9 hop route up to 10 hops.
How you can resolve this problem?
In all hounesty there is very little you can do. You could contact your ISP and ask them to contact Telecity about the issue as well but they are unlikely to do so since it is not on their network and is not part of the backbone connection. What you can do it use proxy to forward the traffic for EvE so that you end up going through one of the other three transit providers. However this can add latency to your connection as well as potentially be insecure unless you have a proper vpn tunnling your traffic encrypted to the proxy.
If you do not feel confident in playing around with vpns and lots of networking stuff then you just have to be patient until someone at CCP calls Telecity and tells them to sort it out.

ok, good reading mate. may i add that some of us, like myself, have this problem for over a 6 months now, ok?
so... maybe it's time to pick up the f-!@#$-ing phone, cccp and call TeleCity or some other duAAb-A55es to solve this issue, ok?

i hope you gonna solve this issue soon. just in case i'm going to my accounts managers and i'm gonna cancel my subscribtion of this fail-soft-hard-ware of yours.
