Started having a noticeable number of "socket closed" issues after the deployment of 1.1.0 - they tended to knock out ALL of my machines, which indicates that it is an issue upstream from me as NOTHING ELSE I had online at the time was affected - specifically including my pair of traderbots in Everquest.
Problem has gotten A TON WORSE since 1.1.1 was released.
I doubt it's "my ISP didn't buy enough bandwidth" or some such, as I connect through Sprint (which is one of the U.S. Backbone ISPs and has been for a long time now).
Had a lot of issues with this last spring as well, when I was on Mediacom for an ISP (Mediacom is also not small, they're THE biggest cable and cable-modem company in the US). I didn't play through the summer or fall.
It does NOT appear to be an issue with the ISP on MY end or with MY connection, though it could be an issue with how you're connecting to the North American backbone providers rather than an issue with your server or it's specific connection(s).

I have been suffering the socket closed problem for several months but I seem to have solved it by turning off SPI on my D-Link router, adding my main pc to the DMZ (de-militarized zone) and opened ports 2600-2601.
I have also disabled/removed all torrent software as this definately increased the likelyhood of being disconected (even if I was not actually uploading or downloading anything).
I also suffered the similar but difference CCP error crash. I have resolved this by turning off shadows, Bloom and Dynamic lighting even though my machines are more than capable of handleing them. Have suffered zero crashes since.

Hi - it's probably been said multiple times in this thread but i cba to trawl through 16 pages so just in case...
I used to be plagued with socket closed errors - it seemed to happen after a long period of inactivity - ie just sitting in station and nothing being said in chat etc. So i decided to rejoin the help and recruitment channels due to the constant spam in there.... no more socket closed errors.

Well I recently got a new computer. Windows 7, ATI Radeon 5770 graphics card, Intel i5 quad core and so far I have not have any disconnects close to a week, (keeping my fingers crossed). My old system was Windows XP, Geforce 5900 Ultra,Intel Pentium 4.
So for whatever its worth something that changed resolved the disconnects for me. My internet connection however remains the same.

ok some one explain this to me...
why can i happily edit my character portrait for over an hour without issue and disconnect but as soon as i load into a station and try to pull up some market data i get the socket closed disconnect?
sent through a bug report but have no high hopes. this has been ongoing for 6 months and i havent done more than change a skill now and then.
2 accounts are canceled and this one is just running because i prepaid a year. i have absolutely no faith that my problem will be solved.
i have no packet loss, i have a decent connection. i checked with my isp and all is dandy yet i have been unable to play this and only this game for 6 months now.
every thing else, every other online game is fine.
so very disappointed.

Is there any way to stop this yet or am I going to have to keep losing 3-5mil worth of light drones each time your connection takes a dump?
5 times tonight its not long before I'm going to lose something more expensive than drones like my Navy Apoc its a major headache at the minute and making the game nearly unplayable because I'm scared of losing something I worked hard for, I know I would not get back a ship from your socket closed error because the logs would not show anything... This has only been happening for me in this latest add-on last few months before then I never had a problem.

My partner has been having a connection closed error all evening last night. It happened approximately every 15 minutes or so, with no warning, and not after a period of inactivity (she was actually mission running and lost all her drones several times over the course of the evening) meanwhile my computer, which is a near identical twin of hers (different supplier for the RAM :D) and connected through the same router, remained connected without incident. Here's my version of the bug:
Since the last patch (or atleast the last few weeks), everytime I try to log in, after entering my password, it tries to connect for ages and then says socket closed.
My workaround: Start EVE. ALT-TAB, start Starcraft2 and log in. Then alt-tab to EVE and log in (again). Works like a charm.
Haven't had a disconnect during the game though.
Hope it helps

Gas is at $4.00 gal, ur not goin to take my money and screw things up at ur end and give me crap!!! or try to say its a prob on my end, cause thats just BS!!!, I play BF2, and use alot of other software like IMVU that is very connection intensive. try this one for size. Upon character creation I cannot select a background, race, gender, or any of that fun stuff and on top of that I don't even get a ship when I start the game, I get an escape pod. I have submitted numerous reports and it has been 3 months and nothing has happened. The one person I talked to closed my account after one email where he told me to try and start a new character...that's the problem, I don't get any options to make a genuine character. So if anyone knows what I can do could you please help me? I had wasted a 3 month subscription waiting for Customer Support to help me out and they won't even give me the time of day, honestly this feels like extortion. What do I do????

I have been having a disconnect issue for the last couple of months. I tried a lot of fixes and none worked. My last resort was to replace my dsl modem router. It works fine now. My Netgear 2000 dsl router hated Incursion. I've only had issues with Eve, all other internet access worked fine. I didn't like that router anyway.

I'm fail at watching message boards so let me just apologize in advance for not saying something sooner.
I was having this problem a lot but usually it occurred when I was sitting in a station and afk. Then when I started flying multiple accounts I noticed that my back end account if left sitting for too long would close with this same error if I'd forget to do anything with it.
I finally (after a few weeks) thought that perhaps my router was closing the socket because it was idle with no data being sent back and forth (wasn't sure of the actual programming behind the client server communications of course) so I tried joining a very active chat channel (Help in my case) and it has seemed to clear up the problem completely. I had another socket closed issue after the last patch but I quickly realized after the first one that for some reason I was not logged into the help channel on my toons. Once I fixed that, I haven't seen the issue since.
I realize this is not the greatest help for reproducing the problem, but it is what happened, and how I've solved it.
I a network with up to 13 computers on it from time to time. Often there are anywhere from 2 to 10 clients of eve running across all family members who might be playing and who it happened too and when was random but all have seemed to be resolved by this solution.
The network has two switches and one WAP coming off the main router which is fed with internet by a cable modem with service through Comcast. During the period of time I was dealing with the issue I had 2Meg down and 750k or something like that upload.
Further I'm quite sure the problem is not related to my network or computer in my case since one client would drop and 4-6 others on the same network would stay up. There has been very very few times where I'd get the socket close error on more than one account at a time.
I have had many times where all accounts drop on two machines at once, but I highly suspect this is a completely separate issue than the one your tracking and is more network or IP related.

Got DC'd tonite right after opening the Wallet, but probably not related to that since DC's are so frequent these days. DC's were very rare for me prior to Incursion.
Direct connection DSL with no router or switch. I sent in logs from SISI around the time Incursion was released; of course, nothing was ever resolved. I will try that chat channel trick though.

I cant read all the reply but honestly before making a petition go here Ping Test Check for dropped packets, if you get ANY, the problem is with your connection/router/modem/Ethernet cable. also running torrents or letting roommates run them. I struggled with my connection for a week before I discovered my roommate was hogging the connection entirely with an torrent client.

I have had issues with running EvE online for quite awhile now. Persistent connection issues with this game and only this game. Relatively rare but still inconvenient connection issues with the server that do not show up in any other program. I have had internet browsers and downloads going while my client has gone down. No packet loss, no sever ping blip. I have even seen one client drop while another maintains it's connection.
Petitions have been placed when this issue has resulted in a ship loss. Not a single one has come back in my favor. So, I pretty much let it be. Argued my pence with the GM's not that it ever made a difference. I even tried escalation and going outside of the petition system but I couldn't get past the complete refusal to provide customer support over the phone.
With this new programming problem with the 1.6 patch or whatever the hell it is, I literally cannot play the game. It will stop working at random times with absurdly frustrating frequency.
So, I'm completely done. All accounts are canceled and I will not be renewing them.
Petitions are one thing, inability to patch a working client is another.

I too have severe disconnection issues sometimes I believe it's my conn beacuse I been havong rpoblems with my provider but I run programms that ping specified servers and watching the nods and timeouts and forced log outs happen in eve while routing to the internet is functional and all packets flowing as intended. IT HAS to be the DDoS attacks or something similar. Right now is unplayable |

I've encountered a closed socket a few times since I came back to the game a few days ago.
One thing I've noticed is that each time it has happened, one of the following two things are what I was doing:
1. Idle for a period of time: apperently I'm not the only one to experience this.
2. Trying to execute more then one action at the same time (most encountered). Example, I tried to repackage a turret, and then immidiately tried to remove another turret from my ship in the fittings window. I'm not sure if this was the cause, but a closed socket has occured a couple of times during a similar situations.
