Hi, this is my first idea for Eve. Please give constructive feedback as I'm still kind of new.
As a new businessman I have found the collecting up of buy order items quite tedious. I knwo that we have the contract system in place and I do use it occationally. However, I would like an additional way of gathering items spread throughout the region.
What I propose is a courier drone. A drone that has a smallish capacity (perhaps 500m3) that can be launched from a base station. It does not have to be a fast action, perhaps upto 1 hour per jump. The drone would go to the target station, collect all items in the cargo bay until it was full capacity, then autopilot back to the base station.
For players that do not use trading, this may not be of that much use, but it would certainly be a boon for busy people that need to collect numerous quantities of small items over large areas of space.
Thank you for reading this suggestion.

Edited by: Kahega Amielden on 31/03/2009 01:47:51 Any idea that removes player interaction in favor of an easy, automated NPC system is bad. However, no one would use courier contracts to move some random crap from one station to a hub.
I don't like your idea for another reason, though. It makes the game smaller. Being able to haul **** without going there and without paying someone else to do it helps trivialize the game's size. Also, since they would be so easy, you'd ****ing destroy any intra-regional markets. If you're in the Forge, you could be 20 jumps away from Jita, and it would make no difference unless you needed the item NOW. It also destroys any opportunities for traders who don't operate out of major regional hubs.
The solution is to simply not buy high-volume items regionwide.

If I had access to such drones, my profits would skyrocket. For a day perhaps. Then everything would even out so much that most traders could not make any money anymore, because some maniac economists would swarm the whole region with courierdrones, leveling the market flat.
One of the reasons why trading works is that most people don't care to fly around. They buy where they are, or a few jumps away at most. Take away the logistical aspect and the market changes dramatically.

I could see this working only if drones took 30 seconds to align to/from each gate, and concord had sanctioned that it will not protect such drones.
Watch all the new drone wrecks go poof!

There are / were plans to intruduce Interbus as an NPC delivery service. But since we don't have the obigatory Jita lags whines every sunday, the idea seems to have put down again.
As others said, it might destroy hauler services and traderoutes, generally taking away player interaction, wich is a bad thing in a mmo.
