Generally, they're sorted in the order Aeon, Wyvern, Nyx and then Hel. Reason being their ability to tank locally. While the Hel is a great boat as such, it requires a good bunch of friends to keep it living, while the Aeon and Wyvern requires 25% less. The Wyvern is actually better in just about every single aspect over the Aeon, but it's not armortanked meaning it's less frequent to see rr-love around outside of organized fleets.
The reason the Nyx is above the Hel is really inexistant. The best reason I can give you is looks. Nyx is beautiful. Damage is really just a detail on mothership, especially the difference between a nyx and a wyvern, but so is the difference between a hel and a nidhoggur in terms of rr-love. However the tank is considerably better on a wyvern or aeon than on a Chimera or Archon - who already is a great deal ahead of thanatos and nidhoggur. Parrots, commence!

O I see what you did there. You were going to ask which one is "best," but you realized that there is no such thing as "best" in Eve, so you changed it to "sought after." Clever.
Seriously though, the one that is most sought after is the one that you want the most. Who cares what anybody else thinks. There are going to be different opinions. For instance, I would say the Aeon is the most sought after because I like Amarr stuff. No other reason. A lot of people like the Nyx, but who cares what they think, seriously.
Yet, to be completely honest, I would say that 20 carriers are more sought after than 1 mothership...cause that is roughly the price difference.

and given you can get about 330 rifters for 100 million. And a mothership is , well lets say 18 billion ? (cheapish ..)
you can get 330 x 10 x 18 = 59400 rifters for the price of that one mothership.
I know i'd pick the rifters , what about you ? they stole my sig :'( |

Imo Nyx > hel > wyvern > aeon. But that is just because if you are going to spend 20B you might as well take a good looking ship. ---------------------------------------------

If you could mirror input of one client to 60k other clients so you could control them all at once it'd be uber win.

How is the Wyvern superior to the Aeon? (besides armor tanking)

Personally I think Hel is the best looking mom out there.
Aeon is a nice size but looks terrible. Wyvern is kinda cool guess but it isn't really my style.
Nyx is beautiful but the model is weirdly small, it looks barely bigger than a thanatos in space.
Hel is the only one that both looks totally badass and is clearly enormous when put side by side with its race's carrier ___________

It's not really superior but it can have a slightly better balance between resists and cap.

I've flown Nyx and Wyvern myself many a time and both are very pretty. I don't like the aeon, haven't seen the Hel up close recently.

On a more serious note; If you have a look at sell/buy forums and look at what motherships people tend to build you see a few things; * Nyx is definately the most popular/sought after on the open market. * Performance wise the Wyvern and Aeon got a clear advantage, as posted above. * Motherships in general are not very "sought after" at all right now, they have huge issues (main issue is that all caps melt bloody fast nowadays, players deal a crapload of damage. Titans got a unique niche/usefulness while motherships are 'upgraded carriers'). * You'd probably see the Hel as more sought after if the minmatar capitals in general would be better than they are. Most people that fly motherships get their capital support skills up to lv5 first. That's alot of skills to train, if they're purely after the Hel.. - This space for rent |

Aeon - it tanks nearly as well as the Wyvern, but does so in armour, so works in armour RR gangs.
