So you could run previous clients on your Macbook. But CCP has chosen Apocrypha as a mandatory step up in graphics. Your Macbook doesn't have a graphics card (poor decision by Apple).
But speaking of poor decisions CCP's decision not to support Macbooks.
1 - DEMOGRAPHICS: Alot of college kids by Macbooks every year with Apples annual student push. Macbooks are popular amongst the age group Eve appeals to.
2 - Its the Economy stupid. CCPs decision to upgrade to premium and require Shader 2.0 when the economy is so poor and people arent buying new hi end compnents was over ambitious. The trend is for cheaper lighter computers without graphics cards. When the economy is going down CCO shouldnt take such a leap forward with the system requirements.
Apple should have foreseen this when they ditched the graphics cards from thier laptops. No Sooner did EA announce they would brings thier popular titles to the mac did they end that agreement when mac droped graphics cards.
CCP deserves credit for this far making one of the few and the best cross platform game. BUt they should maintained a classic client even if they dont chose to officially support macbooks.
BTW -
I have found the best performance by settting Shader to low, and only set it High when you are in station with teh fitting window. If I dont have shader - high set and I open the fitting window I crash.

Mac books were not supported even before Apocrypha. Some people did manage to run the client on them. But they were not officially supported (EVE has NEVER been supported on Mac Books).
People can still try to run EvE on non supported platforms. A lot of people do it. Both on non supported PC hardware, on non supported Macs or on non supported OSs like Tiger or Linux. Not supported means CCP is not targeting those platforms, will not test on them, will not assist you if you have problems and will not specifically solve a problem that is limited to those platforms. Not supported does NOT mean that EvE cannot run on them.
Shader 2.0 is a very old technology. CCP was considering going to shader 3.0. But they decided to only require Shader 2.0 for the moment. Most modern GPUs support Shader Model 4.0 already. The biggest problem with Mac Books is that they have an integrated GPU that shares memory with the CPU. This makes all the graphic stuff much much slower. EVE has never been officially supported on integrated GPUs. Not even the classic client.
The fact that the Mac Book has limited graphics is a deliberate choise Apple made: it's not a gaming or a graphics machine. It is not intended to be. If you need graphics do not buy a Mac Book.
CCP deserves credit for EvE but NO CREDIT for for cross platform: EVE is not at all cross platform. It's Windows Only and intentionally uses Microsoft propietary technology that is not part of a cross platform standard.
As for maintaining a Classic client, that would have ment design Classic support for wormholes, for T3 ships and fitting, for sleepers etc. Not to speak having to maintain multiple codebases and multiple graphical assets. I guess the cost of doing it would have been so huge that if EvE looses a few THOUSANDS of subscribers, they still are doing better than continuing support for Classic.

Acutally, you can still get EVE to run on the MacBooks, provided that they're one of the newer ones. With the move to premium, it now actually runs fast enough that I can fly around on my 1st-gen Air (with its mighty GMA X3100 integrated GPU), which was impossible using the old classic client. ——— “If you're not willing to fight for what you have in =v=… you don't deserve it, and you will lose it.” — Karath Piki |

It works on a GMA950, it's probably the weakest SM 2.0 capable GPU out there. Isn't that enough?
Please OP, stop complaining. It was never supported since it doesn't have enough performance to do everything in the game, so they will probably never be supported.
They might not even technically be supported on Windows (They don't have any VRAM), and they will probably not be supported on Mac OS X either until they get a proper GPU.
